Irish Hills Golf Course

About
Irish Hills Golf Course originally opened in 1928 as a nine-hole course and a back nine was later added in 1984. Thanks to the vastly different times in which they were built, the two nines offer a taste of the old and the new. The scenic front nine naturally has more mature trees and vegetation while the back nine is much more open. The front nine also has a more undulating terrain that is slightly more challenging than the final nine holes. Because of the different nines, the layout appeals to a variety of different skill levels. Located in Mount Vernon, Irish Hills is one of a bevy of golf courses including Hiawatha and Chapel Hill, but the course stands out for its unique layout and affordable rates.

Fun course
I enjoy the front nine a lot. It was built in the late 1920's and has a nostalgic feel to it. A few dog-legged fairways and postage stamp greens make the front nine difficult (for me anyway). The back nine was built later and while perfectly fine, it's a fairly basic layout that's more open and forgiving than the tree-lined front nine. I happily make the thirty minute drive to this course and would recommend it to anyone.
Course not maintained
Couldnt tell where the fairway stopped and rough started. Greens were dried out with holes left without a cup. Wouldnt play again.
Nice course
Nice course, front side hilly, back side flat. The fairways were decent, the greens were in good shape. I really didn’t have anyone in front of me till the back, pace of play was quick. I wouldn’t mind going back, this was a great value
Perfect day of golf
First time I played this course and was extremely impressed. Can't believe I have lived in Ohio for years and never played this course before. Will definitely play it again
Great Course
Well worth the drive from anywhere in Central Ohio. The staff is great and the clubhouse renovation is awesome!
A great course for a great value
I always love paying here. I grew up playing the course with my grandfather as a kid. The layout is fair and it's always lush and green. It's a great value and is a very good test for all skill levels. I really like what they have done with the clubhouse and grill renovation. One of the most fully stocked pro shops in the area as well.
Squishy Greens
The staff was very friendly as always. I booked our tee time on Golf Now, but they couldn't find it. They had a league change their starting time to when we was supposed to tee off. The fairways was full of crabgrass and the greens was squishy. I could feel my cleats sink into the grass. They need to aerate and sand badly. Hopefully with all the money they are putting into the clubhouse they will have enough money to put back into the course.
Ok
Irish Hills is not my favorite golf course in town.
I just thought that the course was not very well kept and too many trees on the front. But maybe I didn't like the course is because after 7 holes it started down pouring, and we had to leave. This is where carts with roofs would come in handy, but I do realize that the tunnel is very small so they can't have carts going in that. But one idea is to put some carts on the back nine and some carts on the front nine, with roofs, but oh well. Overall I wouldn't recommend Irish Hills to anyone while they can play at Hiawatha or Chapel Hill for about the same price.
Hilly with water filled sand traps and no carts with a roof.
Narrow fairways and rolling hills with many blind shots resulting in balls off the fairway and lost. 90 degree rule permanent. Best look elsewhere.

I'm sorry that you had a poor experience the last time you played. We would love the opportunity to make this right. Email us at support@irishhillsgolfclub.com
Great Value!
This course is in very good condition and very playable for the price, which is one of the better deals you will find. I was skeptical when I arrived and found none of the carts had roofs, but soon found out why when the tunnel that goes under RT 13 to get to the back 9 is very small. I'll definitely be back.
Bring your sun screen, and enjoy this course
A very enjoyable course. Front nine is tight, with mature trees, while back nine is wide open. Greens are in perfect shape on both nines.
My only complaint is regarding the carts. Carts have no roof, so on a hot day, it would be uncomfortable. Hence, the sun screen comment.
All in all, this is a gem that I had never heard of, prior to playing it. Well worth the golfnow discounted price.
Very challanging, but great price.
Fairways are in decent condition, but are cut very narrow considering the actual width of them. Course absolutely demands the ball be placed in the fairway off the tee. Course is heavily treed and these are all mature trees. Anything more than 10 yards or so off the short grass is likely to mean hitting over trees or under trees. For the price, this course is in good condition, but you do need to be a straight hitter, or you will have trouble scoring.
THE FRONT NINE WAS NICER THEN THE BACK
THE BACK NINE IS VERY CONGESTED..MEANING THE FAIRWAYS ARE CLOSE TOGETHER PEOPLE ARE EVERYWHERE. AND ONE TEE BOX WAS DIRECTLY BEHIND A PAR THREE GREEN VERY DANGEROUS..FRONT NINE WAS VERY NICE ..BUT ITS OLDER TOO
Super great golf for the money.
This is a great little course I recall playing 25 years ago on the High School team and it's still just as charming. Folks at the counter are very friendly Ohio folks and will be glad to see you. Plays short enough that it would be a good twilight round for those folks beginning or not that confident. The course isn't too long or curvy. But it's a great course to prove to yourself you have some decent reliable drives, some chips and putts in you. It's one of those courses where a good, calm, solid game will produce a scorecard you'll keep for a while. Tees were well maintained and the greens were really very nice. But maybe there is a difference when the front 9 greens are 84 years old that has something to do with it.
Great family run course
The front nine which is the original nine is tighter and obviously more mature. The back nine is more open as many of the trees have to grow in, but the winding creek will get you on a couple of the holes.
I'm sorry that you were not able to complete your round when you were here. We would to have you back to play the entire course! Email us and we will make sure that happens. support@irishhillsgolfclub.com
