Nice public option
in my rating system 3 stars is a good value, decent conditions, and reasonably fun and interesting course. OGA is very walkable no long walks between tees which is a plus. Very nice greens reasonable speed considering it was August and its hot. Layout is a little quirky requiring some lay ups off the tee on hole's 4 & 7. Make sure you stay short of the aiming sticks on these holes if it says 175 to lay up spot that's where your ball needs to stop or else it will roll past the landing area into the junk. Long is also dead around the greens so miss short. I would like to play again now that I have a better idea of where to hit shots and where you can miss. They don't have any sand for divot repair on the pull carts which would be helpful. Course gets lots of public play and there are a lot of
(deep) divots, if not a tournament I would consider playing winter rules. There is a lot of water on the sides and front of greens and some forced carries on par's so if you like to roll the ball onto the surface you could struggle. Pace of play was slow but expected for noon on a Sunday in August. Overall I enjoyed the course thought it was an interesting layout and would go back but I would try to tee it up earlier to get around faster.
Sand on greens in mid-July
I have been playing OGA in Woodburn for over 25 years and I have never seen this course in such poor shape. The course had sand spread all over on the greens in mid-July during peak golf season in Oregon. Paid $77 for 18 holes, a cart and a medium bucket of range balls and go discount for shorty greens. Never have paid this much to play the home of amateur golf in Oregon. Sand on the greens but never have the bunkers on the course been racked. Hard packed bunkers that you can’t hit out of bc the bunkers haven’t been racked by staff and are severe hard panned. Half the time the driving range is closed. Not sure who is running this place but a change in leadership needs to be made as I have never seen the course in such bad shape, the staff is unfriendly and the cost to play is gone up to the point of playing courses like Langdon Farms, the Reserve and Pumpkin Ridge are much nicer courses for right about the same price. Get your act together OGA. Great course layout for the home of amateur golf but you are price gauging your business when you are supposed to be promoting the game.
Solid track!
OGA did not disappoint. Very well-run facility w/ great playing conditions.
All the holes are solid/tough holes. There are plenty of hazards, tight holes, and forced carries. It is a very walkable course, which we need more of. Only wish there were 1 or 2 of those stand out holes (hate to use the word signature).
Really good course and enjoyable. Nice greens, could be faster though.
First visit to OGA GC
My first visit to OGA GC, really enjoyed it. The two others I played the round with had been there several times over the past years and they were also impressed.
From check-in at the pro shop, to getting CART, hitting the practice facility and teeing off - it was incredibly easy and welcoming.
The course was in fantastic condition, from tee to green and everything in between. The staff was incredibly welcoming from the lady in the pro shop who checked us in to the course marshal out on the course. Great job by the greens keepers / course management employees!
The course marshal was also active in ensuring that pace of play stayed acceptable for the groups who were out on the golf course (which seems to be a rare thing at some golf courses these days). He even had found a couple golf balls and donated them which was really a pretty cool thing to do (my first year golfing so I can use them from time to time).
I am looking forward to making at least one more visit to OGA GC before the end of the year - more than one if time allows.
To all the staff, from pro shop to greens keepers - 5/5, 10/10, 100/100. GREAT JOB and keep it up!!
Can't wait for my next visit!
Wonderful place
I played while visiting from out of town. I wish there were more places like this. While the land and contours of the property are stunning and the course is in amazing shape and the practice areas are well appointed the place does not possess any of the arrogance associated with many upscale facilities. It’s just kind of pure golf.
The maintenance was amazing for the price. Details like edging cut around sprinkler heads and bunkers was immaculate. The course itself is not particularly long and somewhat easy given how well cared for it is.
Extremely easy to walk and I saw the highest percentage of walkers here as I have seen in 15 years. Might explain why the turf is in such good shape. You should be embarrassed to take a cart at a place like this.
Great, Challenging Course
OGA is a fantastic course, with great, and well maintained putting surfaces. The pace of play can drag a bit, due to 5 par 5's all of which are very reachable, but with some awkward layout (Especially hole 4) for players not using the back tees.
great value and not at all busy
Great pace of play. Not at all busy (midday on a Wednesday) - I walked it in about 3:15 with some waiting on the last few holes.
Superb condition. I only ran into one soggy spot, but that's because I hit it down where I shouldn't.
Fairly easy, but with enough hazards to keep you honest. Between that and the pace of play/lack of crowds, this seems like a great place to learn to play.
Great golf course. With the winter we have had it was still very muddy. The staff was super to work with.
A wet, wet coursel
In spite of all of the recent rains and severe rain we encountered on 17 & 18, we had a decent round. We knew ahead of time the course would be wet with balls plugging: however, if one kept the ball in the fairways and on the greens, they were both in excellent condition. Looking forward to better weather but for the conditions it was an enjoyable round.
Nice but wet
I really like this course it was my second time playing it but it was pretty disappointing how swamp like the rough is. It you didn't hit the fairway good luck even finding your ball it probably plugged somewhere. I think this affected the pace of play as it seemed to take forever. On par 3 the group in front of us was still waiting on the group in front of them. Nice course but get some better drainage in the rough.
Great Course
Fun course to play, every hole is different and requires that you hit every club in your bag somewhere during the round.
Course in very good condition considering the amount of rain we have over the last six months. Fairway soft but a little bounce and small roll. Roughs wet and soggy in spots. Greens in perfect condition.
Only disappointment was to find the rate at the golf course lower than what golf now had posted. Wasted my $5 fee. Check the course price first before booking on golf now.
Great conditions. Charli could use a customer service refresher.
Despite the rain we've gotten this winter, this course was in fantastic shape. The girl in the pro shop was rude. Hopefully she won't be there long with that attitude.
Watch out 18th hole
The green for 18th hole was confusing with one for9th hole, but the condition of course is excellent.
Plesently surprised.
Very wet conditions this year and particularly at this time in Oregon. Course was quite saturated, but fairways for the most part & especially the greens were in great shape. Taking a cart in spite of cart path only restrictions was an advantage. Course layout very appealing especially all the par 3's. Most all sand traps were washed out to some degree. Seemed to me that there were more difficult holes than the #1 handicap.
Winter conditions
It rained hard for 5 holes. They punched the greens 7 days prior. It was pretty good though. The have some drainage issues, but otherwise, not too bad. The fairways were not plugging....
Challenging
Great course for course management!!
