This is not golf
I know Asheville had a lot of rain recently, but when I tried walking in the first fairway I knew I was in trouble, as the entire fairway was casual water, and I had to move my ball into the rough to actually have a chance to hit a shot. And I am using the term "casual water" with indifference, because they probably should have just closed the course down.
The only redeeming value to this place would be that if you are as poor as I am, this is about the only place in Asheville you can afford to play golf at, unless you don't mind driving an hour in any direction.
I'm actually tempted to drive back over there on a dry day now just to see if it's still as wet as it was around Christmas. But I'm guessing not much has changed.
Honestly, for a little 9 hole track this wasn't bad from a layout perspective, and the greens were actually puttable. It's just finding even a decent patch of grass to place your ball on in what they defined as fairways was a massive challenge. It's certainly walkable.
Maybe if I am really bored and have nothing better to do I'll abuse myself at this place again.
Oh, and you have to go inside the tennis building where the indoor pool and spa are to check in. There is no pro shop, and there is no signs or anything telling you there is even a golf course here. Strangest idea for a golf course I've ever seen honestly.
This course was terrible
If you are thinking about playing a round of golf here, I urge you not to. This "course" feels nothing like a golf course. The fairways are rough and the rough is unplayable. If there is any water on this course it will be impossible to make good shots from the fairway. The cup at every green was full to the top with water and it hadn't rain much at all recently. There are so many better courses in the Asheville area that will play much better for the same price.
4/9 greens are toilets
4 of 9 greens have bite the dust...local management continues to properly care for this sweet layout...Holiday inn /Crown has embarrassed it self on the quality of their venue...still no sign that the course even exist.....can only image what the hotel operation looks like if it mirrors the course....
Not worth time or money
Let's begin with finding the proshop. No signs atva "resort" but shared with the tennis and spa. Was warned about the 1st and 9th green. Should have been closed. Tee boxes so long even teed up balls got lost. Fairways long as ruff, can loose balls there also. Every green had problems. The course design was a after thought. Short as an executive. Its a par 34, should be 33. 2 holes out of the 9 worth playing( if don't mind a train going through) distance marked incorrect. Now I played well but not a fun course. I played for the discount price of 2 buckets of balls which would've been more fun. Even if you stayed there, leave the clubs in the car and use a frisbee. That's what the course should be used for.
Great value, a couple of greens in terrible shape
Some holes were great, some greens were in terrible shape. Great price. Layout was fine. Course is short, but still challenging.
Value missing these days
I normally love this course. You can always play at the pace you want. I have played here almost 10 times this year and it has been great. Yesterday was the complete opposite. I had to stop after 9 because of my displeasure with the state of the greens. Half were so burnt out, you had about a 4 foot window to land in to putt. I will go back and play again, but not until I am assured the problems have been rectified.
like playing in a cow pasture.
Fairways were clumps of grass , uneven and long. Sad when you are in the fairway and have trouble locating the ball. Greens were in good shape but very slow due to not being cut.
Can't tell Fairway from the rough
First let me say we had fun. But I am reviewing this course based on the conditions. There really are no fairways. On Hole 3, it was so swampy and smelly where the fairway would usually be that it was almost impossible to play. On other holes, it wasn't just that it was grown up, but there were weeds growing in the fairway. It was just not well cared for. So if you are just looking for a place to hit balls and are in the area- it is OK. But if you are seriously playing, then stay away.
Great course to learn and practice playing golf
It use to be 18 holes, but it is now 9 holes. The first tee is quite a ways from the check in desk, so walkers will have a nice walk up hill to the first tee. It is a nice course to warm up and get some exercise.
Great value. Fun course
Awesome value. Mature course with stream running throughout. Pleasant stroll in nature. Perhaps availability on LastMinute means "uncrowded"? If so, additional value to the site.
Not a bad 9
Fairways were non-existent, backyard grass. Greens were suprisingly good. Soggy conditions made for less than ideal approach shots.
For the price and only an hour to play it was worth it.
God test of shot making-close by
Crowne Plaza was a pleasant surprise. It's only 9 holes, but play ed 18 so I could have that course knowledge on the second nine. Greens is good shape.Fairways-ok & tees so-so, but who cares much about tees. Very good value. Keep expectations low & you'll be pleasantly surprised.
Small course good value
Good value for 18 holes with cart, the greens are out of shape because people don't repair the ball marks I guess.
Its a small course and challenging as it's very tight on some holes. I finished 18 holes in 2.5 hrs . There was only one slow group when I came back for the 10 th hole that slowed down the pace of play but I skipped the hole and played it later.
Staff are friendly.
9 Holer with Good Greens
Short 9 hole course. 4 par 3's, two 5's on the card but but really only one (about 480yds), the other is just 380 from the white tee. The 3 par 4's are under 300yds.
That said, really nice greens for this type of course, great for short game work. Several holes have pretty good elevation changes.
Note- My GPS was useless, this was once an 18 hole track (until the hotel put in a Resort Class Tennis and spa facility) and the current setup is a mixture from the two sides and many of the current tees don't play to their original greens.
Loop it twice, once from the whites then from the blues to give a slightly different feel.
Brand new gas carts with tinted windshields were unexpected treat.
Good value as a hot deal.
Best bang for your buck
It is an amazing course to learn and work on your game. Great price to play on the course.
Excellent Executive Course
Played here with my sons and we had a great time. This place has REALLY stepped it up from times past! New carts, friendly staff, really good course conditions. Not long but challenging enough to make it fun. Worth every penny and they give specials on prices which makes it that much better.
GOOD PRACTICE CXOURSE
HOLES 1AND 3 EXTREMELY TIGHT OFF TEE, NO.6 EXTREMELY LONG AND NO. 9 EXTREMELY SHORT. SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE. GREENS GREAT SHAPE.
mistake
THIS COURSE WAS VERY UNKEPT. YOU COULD TELL THE COURSE WAS JUST A SECONDARY THING FOR THEM. THE FAIRWAYS WERE OKAY IN MOST CASES HIGH THOUGH. I DONT BELIEVE ANYONE HAD EVER REPAIRED A DIVOT ON THE GREENS. IF YOUR SHOT WAS 6 INCHES OFF THE FAIRWAY ANYWHERE ON THE COURSE YOUR BALL WAS GONE; IT WAS 12 TO 18 INCHES JUST OFF FAIRWAYS AND SOMETIMES FOUR FEET OFF THE GREENS. NO FOOD OR DRINK ACCESSIBLE. GENERALLY A BAD EXPERIENCE WILL NOT GO BACK NOR TELL ANYONE I KNOW TO GO.
Not good at all
There was pick up trucks driving back and forth on the cart pat , people walking their dogs , riding bicicles. Etc.
A shot-makers golf course
This little nine-hole resort course is short, tight and has lots of water, woods and railroad tracks around the edges. Finding the pro shop is among the challenges because there really isn't a pro shop. There is a reception desk for the spa, indoor pool, tennis courts and golf course inside the main recreation building. In addition, the Crown Plaza Resort near downtown Asheville is tricky to find because it is nestled in a hilly wooded area behind the big Sam's Club in Asheville. Nothing said "golf check-in" as we drove into the resort, except for signs outside the recreation building that advertise the facility's golf academy. Park outside the main building and go in to get a key to the golf carts, which are out the back of the building. I parked in the back by the tennis courts. To get to the first tee, you drive up a steep hill by the outdoor pool. After pulling my first two drives into the woods on the tight dogleg left, I put the driver away and used hybrids for the rest of the round. Focus on target golf to landing areas. Although the course is short, playing from the blue tees can be challenging if you can't keep 180+yard shots straight. An active railroad track runs along the right side of the first five holes. Don't know the local rule for pinging a shot off the box cars. GolfNow price can't be beat for playing golf in the Asheville area.
I wish i had read this before I wasted my money. Ive played bad courses before, but this has to be the absolute worst ever. And they advertise it as a resort! the best thing i can say was the layout was good, everything else was horrible
