Good Value
This course is naturally very beautiful and challenging, with huge elevation changes and some dog legs that force you to make tough decisions. It is very enjoyable to play and could be one of the nicest courses in Middle TN with some effort. The permanent facilities are a bit run down, including the cart paths. The tee boxes and fairways were great, but some of the greens were in poor shape. For the money I think it is about the best deal going right now though.
Nashville Hidden Diamond
I loved this course.
- Very few people on the course, so played quickly
- Not super long so if you are not a long hitter it is a great course
- Old-school lay out... not long, but lots of cool looks off the tee-box, and neat shots into the green
- Very affordable to play
- Beautiful trees, grass, and green
- Up-kept well for a course that is not overly priced
- Great value
- A beautiful drive in the golf-cart
I will never go back!
Very disappointed by this course. Staff was extremely rude and seemed unhappy. Grounds were very run down with dead spots everywhere. I used the bathroom on the course and it was filthy. I wish I had read some reviews before going here as my experience seems to be the norm for this club.
Mayor Dean, Please put this course out of its misery!!
Arrived at the course about 40 minutes early. Course was wide open due to the fact the course is going to be demolished at the end of the year and the course has not been maintained since the summer. Ask the owner to tee off early given that no one was ahead of us. The owner told us we had to wait until our original tee time. When inquiring as to why, he seemed to be upset with the Hot Deal price we received on this site. At one time telling us "you buy cheap you play cheap". So we waited for our tee time watching an empty tee box. This course was part of a country club but given the poor attitude of the owner I totally understand why this club went bankrupt.
The next issue is the condition of the course. The course is expected to be transformed into a green-way. As a result very little maintenance has went into keeping the greens in shape. Several greens have bare spots, fungus or regular grass growing within the putting areas. If you have played Twelve Stones then you can relate. The best thing that can happen to this course is to close it before the attitude of the owner becomes the perception of other Metro golf courses. Mayor Dean, PLEASE put this course out of its misery!!!
Two courses in one...
This is like playing two different courses. The front nine is wide open, then the back nine is difficult...especially if you are not familiar with the course. In the back nine you are shooting towards greens you cannot see. Seemingly well placed tee shots will bleed off and out of bounds. If you have played the back nine a couple of times it would be easier than playing it for your first time. There were a couple, maybe three, greens that were sorely in need of repair though most of the greens were fine.
Back nine is challenging!
Beautiful fall day for golf. Greens were either great or in need of attention. Not crowded at all. Could be a hidden gem with a little more maintenance.
terrible!
This course is simply terrible. I thought I stepped back in time. The "clubhouse" was a shack. Course in a bad design and in terrible shape. Waste of time and money.
Potential
This course has a very good layout!! That's about the only positive I could say. The guy that works there wasn't friendly. As soon as you pull in, the first green you see is in bad shape. Several of the greens were either burnt or fading. Hole 18 green has a sand trap in the middle.(not done on purpose) There were piles of leaves and grass in the middle of the fairway. If these small things could be address and fix this could be a really good course. If I play this course again it will be either last minute, someone paid for me, or at a really discounted rate.($18 or under)
Played at 9:00 on a Friday. They didn't mow the greens. 5 greens were dead
Play was fast though. No one out there.
Greens were uncut
Several greens were dead
Lost balls in fairway bc of so many grass clippings
Course has potential.
I liked the layout of the course but it is in need of a great deal of attention. Several of the greens were basically unplayable. It was cheap and I had fun because I don't take it too seriously. If course condition is a priority for you, I would recommend staying away. If not, enjoy the reduced rates.
The course is in bad condition.
The course is in bad condition, Most Greens are in bad shape, and the staff was not friendly. I'm very disappointed that Golf Now would have a course so badly misrepresented on it's web site.
Greens not Great
Most of the greens located in low areas was rotting away. Hard to tell the difference of what is rough and fairway. Not a bad little course. Just not worth $30. More like $15
This course was in terrible shape!!
Absolutely the worst course I've ever play in my 30 years of playing golf. The cart paths were completely falling apart and hardly wide enough for a cart to even fit on. The greens were extremely slow and had weeds growing in them. Half of the greens were burnt up and didn't even have any grass. The fairways were hardly mowed down. Felt like you were playing out of light rough.... Tee boxes were rock hard. Extremely disappointed!! Would never go back...
Fun course
This is not a five star course by any means. However it was fun to play. The staff was friendly and laid back. We sat and chatted with the ranger while waiting for the slowest foursome in front of us and letting twosomes play through(we were a twosome). The foursome in front must have been celebrities because they held up the entire course and would not let anyone play through. It was a holiday weekend and we weren't in a rush, but we could tell rate of play was not enforced. The greens were not kept but the fairways are great and an easy rough. This is a good place to take a 12-pack of beers and hang out with your buds.
Great layout and very vlose to everyplace around Nashville
The course layout is great. It takes advantage of the hills of Tennessee and has the personality that would be a fantastic place to play with attention to some details. The grass needs to be cut from fairways out the the rough. The fairways on Labor Day weekend we almost two inches thick. The rough was even worse. There were lots of mowers going, but they were cutting tee box shoulders and areas that were not normally in play. Some of the green had lost some grass, but it is September in TN. The 12th, 16th and 18th were the worst. the 18th green had a small bunker on the green with weeds growing out of it. I know you can't keep all the greens prestine, but give me strength.
The place must not have a superintendent that is giving good direction as to what to work on. take advantage of the hills and the Stones River is blocked from view by overgrown fence line. This place could be great golf course.
Good course, needs a little love
Course is good and fun, some greens are patchy and need some attention.
Poorly Kept
I was a member at Ravenwood 6 years ago, and is no where near what it used to be. Could be a great course with a little care.
Conditional review
The course received a "poor" value for the money based on if I had paid the regular course rate. Since I only paid $10, it would fall into the average category. At this time the course is scheduled to close Dec. 31, 2013. Consequently, the lack of some of the maintenance is understood. The closing of the course in due to its purchase by Metro and supposedly there are not any specific plans for the course. Ravenwood was a great course at one time. The course has a sound infrastructure which Metro should capitalize on and revitalize.
The fairways were in excellent shape. A couple of the greens were in fairly bad shape; but that can be expected with bent grass this time of the year.
Ravenwood has been a mainstay for the Hermitage, TN area for over 50 years, both as a private and semi-private Country Club. A touring Professional would find this to be a very easy course, however, for the average golfer, Ravenwood is quite challenging.
Interesting layout, good course, run down facilities.
The club looks like at one time could have been a great country club with pool, tennis courts, and a really nice brick patio area on the back of the clubhouse, but sadly the facilities are terribly old, run down and unkempt. However the golf course is actually pretty interesting, fun layout, some tough holes, lots of hills. There were a few greens in really bad shape, probably diseased, but most were fine. Greens are slow. Fairways and rough were in pretty good shape. Not a high end, immaculate course, but overall a good experience and good value for the price.
