One of the best courses in the Houston area
This was my 4th time playing this course and I can't help being impressed. As the formal home of Houston Open, the layout is PGA challenging from the back tees and so much fun. This course is always in good shape, but the pace slows in the afternoon. I can't say enough about the layout and course condition, always in shape and that stadium look on the 18th hole.
Woodlands Tournament Course
This is the old Houston Open course and now hosts Insperity Champions Tournament. For a pro tournament course it is very favorable and very enjoyable to play.
Tour tested: Old TPC still has a lot of bite
Between the Shell Houston Open and now the Insperity Championship, there's been a lot of professional golf tournaments on what used to be the TPC at The Woodlands and for good reason: this is a great test. Having played this course dozens of times and having seen more than 25 of these pro events there over the years, I know every square foot of this golf course, but it was memorable right from the beginning. It still has one of the best finishing stretches in golf, and the 17th, with water off the tee and the approach, is one of the best short par 4s you'll ever play. My only complaint is that there's a little too much out of bounds for my liking, but you could say the same thing about most courses from that era, with Harbour Town, another great layout, coming to mind immediately.
