Gladstan Golf Course

About
Gladstan Golf Course is located in Payson which is about about 1 hour and 15 minutes south of Salt Lake City. It is built in the foothills of the Wasatch Mountain and offers a great taste of Utah mountain golfing.
Since the course is just over an hour away from Salt Lake City, it is not as busy as other mountain courses in Northern Utah. This keeps Gladstan one of the best kept secrets in the state. But, as more people play find out about it and the metropolitan area expands Gladstan is becoming more and more popular.
The opening holes numbers 1 to 6 on the front nine and the closing holes numbers 16 to 18 on the back are more traditional in design as they were built on terrain that is fairly flat. The main hazards on these holes are two large ponds and out of bounds areas.
In contrast, the stretch of holes from number 7 to 15 are cut out of the natural vegetation and uneven land. These holes cross hillsides, wander through canyons, shoot down steep slopes and cut through forests. Elevated tees, ravines and waste areas all come into play.
Numbers 7 and 8 are short target-style holes that require accuracy. Number 7 is a very short 329 yard par 4 that can easily produce a bogie or worse. A tee shot that is too far left or long will be lost or unplayable. Even a bad second shot to the elevated green is dangerous because of the surrounding vegetation.
A precise tee shot is also required on the short par 3 number 8 as the small green literally has thick waste areas guarding every side. Landing short of the green and rolling on is the only way to be safe.
Don't get too relaxed at the turn as hole number 10 requires a forced carry down a steep hillside and over a strand of tall trees. Course knowledge, course maintenance and shot execution are all required to setup a good approach shot to the green.
Because of the its intimidating tee shot, the signature hole is number 12. At less than 300 yards the par 4 would never get an ounce of respect if it wasn't for the deep ravine between the tee box and the fairway. The carry is only about 150 yards from the back tee but when it's your turn to hit it looks like 300 yards.
Because of the distance between green and tee on several holes, a cart is recommended for all but the best in shape. The forced carries required on the back make the front nine better for beginning golfers. The course is in Utah County which is dry on Sundays so bring your own beer.
Gladstan is very interesting and fun to play and offers challenges that can be overcome with accuracy and bravery. For the price Gladstan is an exceptional value for your golfing dollar.

Some really great holes on a nice piece of property
If you get the chance play it. The holes are wonderful, the views are great. Greens and fairways were very well conditioned, deer and turkeys hanging all around.
The layout of the coarse is rad!!
I felt like our group was the only ones on the coarse😂. So much fun I can't wait for spring to try it again🤘😎
It was real cool seeing wildlife all over the coarse
The back nine is challenging, but each hole felt like I was out there by myself. I love the lay out of this place.
Wow
One of my all time favorite courses to play. I'll definitely play in their Men's League next year. Worth the drive!
Marshall
Marshall has very bad customer service. Very rude and mean. Needs customer service training. Very bad experience. Never going back again.
Great hidden gem
Fun course with stunning scenery and wildlife. For the money and being a public course, it was well maintained and in good shape. Smooth fast greens.
Photo Perfect & Challenging Golf Together
We have played this course 3 times just recently. Course is in excellent condition, had outstanding terrain and challenges, BUT…. This course is NOT for beginners unless they only play the front nine. The back nine has spectacular views, lots of carry and would be difficult for the novice.
Also, yesterday it took 51/2 hours to play. There was NO Marshall, and NO where to pass. So this extremely slow play took all the joy away from play.
One of a kind layout
Perfect course for someone who wants to experience mountain golf. Front 9 is fairly traditional, but very playable and fun with a few great holes. There are a lot of sloped and uneven lies which adds difficulty to even the holes that look easy on paper. Once you make the turn to the back it is a different course. Massive elevation changes on a handful of holes and extremely scenic tee shots. Some are very intimidating but fair tee shots. The12th hole is a driveable par 4 that can be a great eagle or birdie hole for almost everyone but your ball can disappear in a hurry. 14 and 15 are set back into the canyon and are some of the coolest holes you will find anywhere. Add in 18 which is a very reachable but risky par 5 with an island green and it’s a layout you have to play at least once. You have to be feeling very confident to go after 18 in two shots since the target is so small, but I was rewarded with an 12 foot eagle putt. Pace of play was slow at 5 hours, and greens also were slow from all the recent rain. Those are two small things that I wouldn’t let deter you from coming to play this course. It is a special layout and a must play at least 1 round.
Amazing Course
This course is amazing. Very beautiful. Course is tough from the tips. Excellent condition. Pace of play is not bad but not great. If the staff would combine singles or doubles rather than send them out individually behind foursomes, it would help the pace of play. Other than that, it’s truly a hidden gem of a course.
Favorite
Gladstan is at the top of my local course favorites list. Always enjoy playing there.
