Excellent Courses Conditions--Some Slow Play
I had meetings in the morning, so had a 2:15 tee time. It was 90 degrees by that time, but I was ready for the heat. I wasn't, though, ready for the slow play. I was a single and paired up with some slow players and behind slow players. It just made for a long, hot day! But, I will say that Williamsburg National Jamestown is in excellent condition from tee box to green. This tract is a very nice traditional layout and only a couple of holes with blind shots--for the most part you can see what's in front of you. I like both courses at Williamsburg National, but I think the Jamestown is my favorite of the two. When I'm in Williamsburg, Williamsburg National is one of my "go to" courses to be able to get on as a single.
103 Heat Index
Even though really hot today, I wanted to play some golf so made a tee time for a single. I signed up with a twosome to ensure I had someone to play with. The course was in great condition. Years ago, Williamsburg National seemed to be going downhill--but over the past three-four years they have really put some TLC into the course and it is a regular for me now when I'm in the Williamsburg area. The tee boxes, fairways, and greens were in great shape. I wasn't in any bunkers, but noticed in passing that some had standing water in them. The rough was penal, though. It wasn't overly long, but it was a bit coarse and narley. It was really "springy" on the wedges and you ended up coming up short because your club bounced off the springy bermuda. I learned quick enough and took another longer club. We got behind a fairly slow threesome--just some guys out to have a nice social outing with each other. With the 103 heat index, it seemed like it took forever but it only ended up being a little over 4 hours. I definitely will play Williamsburg National again...both courses are in great shape and the staff is very friendly.
Fun Course
This course starts with an inviting par 4 that can get your round off to a great start. The pace of play here was great, finished a round in just under 4 hours. Conditioning was great and would recommend this course to anybody.
Been A While Since I've Played Williamsburg Nat'l
It's been quite a while since I've played Williamsburg National, especially the Jamestown tract. (The last time I played, I played Yorktown.) It was cart path only, but that was understandable given all the rain that fell on Wed and Thurs. There were plenty of soggy spots throughout. But, the course was very playable and even in good shape. I only saw one bunker that had water in it, and it really wasn't that much. They did a great job draining the bunkers and they were fully raked. Fairways were in good shape--again, every now and then you'd hit a wet spot mostly from drainage across the hole. Greens were in excellent shape...rolling true and holding approach shots. The bermuda rough was splotchy, but that's to be expected this time of year. The only drawback was the young men I played with...I was a single and joined them. Swing for the rafters as hard and fast as they could, only to dink it 50 yards. I'm okay with that (everyone has to start someplace), but by the back they were giggly, drunk, and disrespectful of each other and me. I don't want to be a "golf prude," but not laughing and talking in someone's backswing is basic etiquette. These guys should stay at Top Golf and leave the course to people who want to play golf! Williamsburg National can't do anything about that--not their fault--but it made the day less enjoyable and very painful for me. The course is in excellent shape, so hope you get paired with real golfers.
Great golf course.
It was cart path only but understandably so. Still finished in less than 4hours. Wonderful day. Will definitely play again.
Course was still very wet 4 days after rain. Very challenging. Many tee boxes were not level. Combination of difficulty and cart paths only resulted in 4 hrs 45 min to complete 18 with foursome of experienced players.
Great work by the staff
Played 18 on 9/6. Teed off at 1005 as scheduled. Joe the starter said “stay on the fairways”. Dude was a genius. Rough is very tough but overall very fair. Great round in just over four hours. Great course with great service. My go to when in Williamsburg.
Great layout and fair challenge
Jamestown requires a little more strategy and emphasis on shot placement than Yorktown but it is still a fun layout. Club staff are always top notch and the course conditions were as good as one could expect in late summer.
Great value
We had a 9:25 tee time. Got off on time as a twosome. No one pushing or holding us up. The course is in good shape. Everyone there was friendly and helpful. Will definitely play again.
Love The Course
Have played multiple times. Greens are in great shape. Love the layout. Only thing is if you hit it off the fairway just a bit it’s very hard to find the ball.
Great Course
Unfortunately with all the rain lately it was cart path only...only negative comment I have. Venue.
Love this course
Compared to Other courses I have played in the area this course is in great shape. Greens and fairways are beautiful. Love playing it.
Great time
Friendly staff and great course. My wife and I were paired with two other gentlemen , and we had a wonderful round of golf. I can’t wait to return to play again.
