Best greens in Spokane
This course is always in good condition. From opening day in spring to closing at the end of fall the greens are always in great condition and roll true! A must play course in the Spokane area!
Solid, scenic modern muni with one oddball
Qualchan is very much a tale of two nines. The front - which starts with a majestic downhill tee shot that excites any golfer - rambles over fairly open land before zipping up into the forest for much of the back. It's here that golfers encounter one of the oddest holes in creation: the par-4 13th, where players must hit a precise, forced iron off the tee to an out-of-sight landing area before turning more than 90 degrees to the left and playing a wedge up a hill to a skinny, three-tiered green. Best to smile and laugh at the challenge, because the rest of the course is solid enough to be well worth playing, especially for less than $50. The namesake creek (which is actually Hangman Creek) brings the course together nicely.
Better options in Spokane
The guy in the Pro Shop was happy to send me out at 6:45 am even in the pouring rain. All the signage was good around the course. The front 9 felt crowded with other holes while the back 9 opened up more and played easier. There are lots of hazards on this course, it could use some GPS in the carts and some water coolers.
The greens were spotty and bumpy, the fairways were bumpy on some holes too. My favorite holes were 1, 13, 14, & 18.
From the highway the course looked pristine, in person it looked rough and beat up. Groundskeepers weren't friendly either. I probably wouldn't play it again if I had the chance.
