Crispin
The course was in ok shape, but the fairways were overcut and nothing stayed even close to where you hit it.
Greens were in good shape, few scalped or fungi places on a few.
Course needs big-time help.
Played the Crispin Course as part of a package.
Stayed in one of the Resort's cottages. Played the Jones course one day, Crispin the next.
Crispin course was in horrible condition. Worse than any muni course I have ever seen.
5+ hours to play what was basically a dirt lot.
Will never go back.
Crispen Golf
They had just aerated the fairways and the plugs had not been collected. The course should have been closed. I’d like my money back.
The fairways had been aerated same day. The plugs were not yet removed..
We were not informed that the fairways were being aerated. The plugs were still on the ground making the course almost unplayable. Our money should be returned.
I grew up on this course. U knew it had no water except at the greens. But, It was almost unplayable as we had to place our ball on every shot. The greens were damaged. It should have been closed until the work was done. We drove 2 hours for this very poor experience. I would hope by Spring the course will be healed. Really, I’d like my money back.
A crying shame
Used to travel an hour 2-3 times a year to play this course. Used to be the best value in golf by the Pittsburgh area. You used to really be able to tell, despite being the cheaper of the 3 Oglebay courses, you could tell the same level of care and attention to detail was put into it. Unfortunately this year not the case. Waited 5 plus minutes for the starter, so I took a cart, loaded it and came right back to the club house. When I arrived back the starter was smoking a cigarette while scolding me for taking a cart and not signing it out. When we did play the course I could not believe how far this place has fallen. Point blank not worth any amount of money you pay. The fairways were 90% dirt and dry as a rock. Paired with this being a hilly West Virginia course, it was a recipe for balls landing in the middle of the fairway, to eventually bounce into the woods. The greens had actual craters in them. For as up tight the staff was, you’d expect the course to be well maintained. You’d have more fun playing 18 of your neighbors backyards then you will playing here.
Disappointing conditions
I live in the area and have golfed on this course for years, first time this year and it’s the worst I’ve ever seen this course!!!
We had waited till after 3pm to get the reduced rates however, even at the reduced rates, we walked off after nine holes because we couldn’t see ourselves playing the back nine if it was in as bad as shape as the front nine was.
I would not recommend this course to anyone and I’m severely disappointed
Disbelief
Haven't played this course since last summer, waited for tee times after 3pm to get reduced pricing, could not believe the poor conditions of the fairways and greens. very disappointed! very thankful that I waited for reduced price, we walked off after nine holes, didn't care to finish with such bad fairways and greens, I won't be spending any more of my hard earned money there.
The staff is great!
Booking tee times are always so easy! Staff is very welcoming and friendly. Always willing to answer questions and help out.
The course could use some upkeep and upgrades but overall we had a great time.
Will be back
Golfers Nightmare
The brown 45 degree fairways pair nice with the malnourished deer with various diseases, greens with muddy tire marks, and the dead trees everywhere. My kit-Kat was $5. If your ball lands on the fairway, you will end up somewhere in the gunch with your ball covered in geese and bear poop being sucked on by one of the work staff. I saw a guy watering a tree for 10 minutes which was the only alive tree on the whole course, I think it was the Lorax.
Course fairways are dried up
Greens weren’t bad, t boxes were watered but not in good condition, fairways getting no water at all and due to the slopes of them it’s impossible to keep your ball from rolling into the woods even on a great drive. I will not be playing there again until it receives several inches of rain.
Dry fairways
Greens were decent, fairways need rain or watered, however my biggest complaint is that number 4 and 6 fairways were under construction this spring and they did a terrible job of leveling and seeding, visable rocks are surfacing and they just seeded over bulldozer tracks.
Crispin Played Today
Thought it would rain and would be too wet, but the course was good and no 90-degree rule needed. Course has a lot of uneven fairways, with a lot of shots above or below your feet. But when you are playing the West Virginia hills that can be part of the appeal. Greens are well maintained despite the area construction on the Oglebay Resort and impacts on the course. Look out, the greens are fast! Great value and I look forward to my next round! Special note to Course Marshall Ray for his kindness and guidance as a first-time player on his course!
