Glen Cairn Golf Course

About
Glen Cairn Golf Course in Ogdensburg is laid across a diverse terrain of woodlands, grassy meadows, and marshlands. The course was carefully carved from over 160 acres of lush, rolling countryside. As its name would indicate, the course draws inspiration from the traditions of British Isles golf. Golfers can enjoy a round of traditional Scottish links all while being only 20 minutes from Waupaca. The two nines, the Thistle and the Heathers respectively, each offer a different set of challenges. The front nine has shorter, tighter holes, while the tree-lined back nine will test both your distance and your accuracy. There is only one water hazard, a lake that comes into play on the third hole. The bunkering is also somewhat sparse although not on the par-3 eighth hole where the green is almost entirely surrounded by sand.

Interesting layout
I played Glen Cairn on the WI Classic Golf Tour card. It is very much a golf-only destination: it’s a little off the beaten path and is minimalistic in terms of facilities (no restaurant, small bar area, no cart service this particular Friday afternoon. The course itself is an interesting layout. A lot of elevation change (a rarity in NE Wisconsin) and a good combination of woodland and parkland style holes. A good course requires you to use every club in the bag, which was true for me at Glen Cairn.
My biggest complaint is the overall condition of the course. The greens were very spotty and played very slow—the ball would bounce its way to the hole on some putts. The reads were mostly true, but getting enough speed was a struggle. Fairways were mostly decent, but I did find a number of spots that were cart path-thin.
It’s tough to give a good comprehensive review of a course based on one round; it’s simply a snapshot in early June after a weird winter. The layout is interesting enough that I would play again. However, if conditions remain spotty into peak golf time in July and August, it would be tough to justify the journey it takes for me to get there.
Hidden golf course
The greens were sort of beat up, but all and all it is a very nice course, hopefully get back when the leaves start to turn I think that it will be beautiful back there.
Very enjoyable course
The course was in excellent shape. This is a very scenic course with plenty of challenges. A good time. Staff was very friendly
Great round with an exception
Fareways need upgrade - surface too hard
Mixed Feelings
I had heard of this course from others but had not played it until today, so decided to try it with a buddy. It's out in the boonies so use your GPS to find it ! Nothing fancy for clubhouse, snacks or bathrooms (ahem) but friendly staff greeted us and treated us kindly. It's a hilly course with lots of trees, so be prepared to hit it strait, otherwise, brings lots of balls. Course marking could definitely use some improvement as we struggled to find the line from tee to green and green to the next tee box, more than once ! Several of the holes are quite scenic, so take a camera. My biggest disappointment was the long grass on the fairways and the even longer grass in the rough. hard to tell the difference many times. No marshal, so the hackers ahead of us really made the pace of play slow as no one was prompting them along. Looked like they were parking carts on the greens from our distance !!! Overall, with more mowing maintenance and a few more course direction markings, this would be a really fun course. However, I found myself frustrated after the round. Probably will choose a different course next time.
Quiet Private Setting
Some narrow fairways and elevated greens along with the rolling terrain make this a nice outing. The staff is super friendly.
Hidden Gem!
Amazing staff, superb course, creative layout, and plays hard difficulty. Minor maintenance shortcomings, but the deep rough added to the challenge for me. Definitely, would play again, and recommend others do so as well. The challenge is worth, and with a little TLC, this has 5-star potential.
will play again!
This was my 1st time here. Had to use my gps to find it with an hour drive. My golf buddy and I said we would golf here again.
So so
Good - Scenic course with ups and downs. Bad - Fairways are no different than rough.
We love this course
Nice course
Love the wildlife and quietness
Good value
course has some winter kill and fairways were dry. challenging course with elevation changes and mature trees.
Very Friendly worth the trip
The course was dry due to having a slight drought. The irrigation system was going to be set up in the next few days after I played. The staff is always friendly and this is a course that I always come back to again and again.
No stupid holes
Lots of elevation changes and good looking holes. Number 3 is a great par four. Number 10 was unique dogleg right. I tried to fade it around the corner and heard ball hit a barn you can't really see from tee. So did other ball in my group. Both balls ended up in the middle of the fairway. Number 13 was a cool 2nd shot up a steep hill. Number 16 is a nice short and easy par 3 that any golfer can have a chance for a birdie putt. 17 and 18 make for a challenging finish.
everybodys golf course
love this course but fairways are getting dried up/brown grass( but that's mother natures fault)they need rain. third time golfing there friendly staff
Great value
Enjoyed playing disc golf course recommend it to anyone as I know I will be going doctor again this year. Play on the course was very good although other golfers need to get better at a kit of golf as they just hit at you instead of asking to play through when you're a little slow. I am legally blind but enjoyed playing the course with my friend it is a long course you have to know what club to choose in certain areas but enjoyed it thank you.
Fun layout
Course has lots of elevation changes and mature trees
Glen Carin
Cannot complain to much about the course, the only thing I would, is that some of the greens have some winter damage. But of course with time and warmer weather that will get better. It is Wisconsin
horrible shape
The greens were pretty much unputtable. There were dry dead grass spots everywhere. The layout is pretty cool but they NEED some major TLC from some good grounds keepers. Waste of time and money for me, even with the hot deal!
HAVE TO PLAY
A GREAT COURSE FOR THE MONEY AND FUN AND CHALLENGING. THE OWNERS ARE HANDS ON AND MAKE SURE YOU ARE HAPPY WITH EVERY ASPECT OF THEIR FAMILY OWNED COURSE.
