The BOG

About
The Bog in Saukville has consistently been ranked as one of the top 10 golf courses in Wisconsin. At 7,110 yards from the back tees, it is a course that will test both your distance and accuracy. The course takes no time in introducing its challenges. It opens with an uphill par 5 that requires a straight tee shot in order to avoid the bunkers that line both sides of the fairway. There are also at least 12 bunkers within 100 yards of the greens just waiting to swallow up errant shots. The golf course also provides a scenic round with mature trees and lush landscaping enclosing most of the holes. It can be a tough test but different sets of tees make it more approachable. The Bog is also a popular place for its practice facility, which includes a driving range and short game area.

Reviews
Better than expected
The course for a Sunday was open and our foursome completed 18 holes in 4 hrs 6 minutes. Challenging course with spectacular views . Greens were fast and in excellent condition. Fairways were clean and the rough was challenging but not impossible . Bunkers were all raked and sand was free of rocks and leaves . Overall a great experience and we will be back
Great place to get lost for a round
The views you see start to finish mixed with a great course. Very rewarding round and will be back
Great place top to bottom
For only being 35 min north of milwaukee, you almost forget where you are. From the second you pull in, the scenery and hospitality is top notch. Course was very well maintained with very fun challenges throughout. Well worth the trip
Good course, some rude employees
This was our first trip to the Bog, it was just myself and my teenage son, who is a varsity golfer for his high school so he is now better than me. Anyway, the course itself was very nice, heavy on bunkers which added some good challenges, and very well maintained. You do get range balls with the tee time and overall the operation was well organized - which was expected since this is one of the pricier options in our area.
I'm not sure if being pricier has to equal more rude, but unfortunately it did in our case. My son wanted to have me purchase him a "Bog" divot repair tool to remember the occasion and it had no price on it and when I asked the man replied "if you have to ask you probably do not want to buy it". Then when we went to our cart we had each brought a water with us and we were told we had to take our water bottle back out to the parking lot and put it in our car. I am familiar with not being allowed to take soda, alcohol, etc onto the course because they want to sell it to you which is normal and makes sense, but this was just a bottle of water and you can take that same bottle of water into a Brewers Game, the State Fair, etc... But I did not complain at the time, it was our first time there so I walked back out to the car an put the water back. Then a few holes in we were both thirsty on this summer day but when the cart person came by to sell us stuff she said we could not buy anything because they had just switched to 100% cashless and their card reader was down so she was heading back in. I asked if I could just buy a water with cash then, and she said no, but hopefully the issue would be addressed later. So now we are very thirsty (18 holes on a hot day) and the next time we saw a cart person they repeated the same thing, nothing could be purchased with cash as they are cashless now, but their credit card readers were still down. I kept thinking back to the waters that were sitting in my car and the rude way we were told to put them back and realized the Bog was not the place for me and my son. The course was nice, but a few of the people were not (not all mind you), it was really just the one main gentlemen who was rude in the Pro Shop and then made sure we did not dare take water onto his course who I could have done without. The others were nice but their new "cash-less" system policy was definitely a mistake and poorly implemented. You can't be 100% cashless and then have credit card readers that do not work reliably.
But again, the course itself was very nice and MOST of the people were too, the few bad things described above just left us feeling out of place.
Challenging Course in Excellent Condition
Played the Bog on a warm, humid day after having not played it in several years. Condition of the course was superb, with fairway plush as a carpet and greens fast but true. Be sure to look at the scorecard to see which way the hole plays as there are some blinds areas. Once you know where to hit it, shot placement is critical but can be very rewarding. Hitting these shots added to the fun of the course and were by no means unfair from the right set of tees. Loved it!
Steer clear of this over-rated course
If you can get past the "I want to search your bag for drinks", the 23 times you need to hit the "go" button on your screen after being scolded for over-driving hidden barriers, and the "we close our turn beverage hut at 4:30pm daily (our actual tee time) but we have a beverage cart until 6pm" which by the way, got us through 9.
If you are looking for a course to relax and enjoy, this one is not for you.
PS to women - If you can't clear the hazard on the three or four holes where you must drive 150 minimum, don't fear! The head pro instructed us to drop a ball on the other side. Hmmm. With no official drop zone, I believe that would be cheating. Bummer. Just keep hitting until you hit your maximum score. Having fun yet?
Challenging
Pretty good conditions. Challenging course. Hate the bag drop.
Could use new management
Decent course. Although tricked up with blind shots etc. Greens were nice , fairways and tees need some work. All of the staff were very friendly and pleasant.
Food service and halfway house was very inadequate . Out of many items including bratwurst! Ha! Service was slow, need more servers to get people served and on their way to the next tee. Beer wasn’t cold either.🤷♂️
After our round we looked forward to a 19th hole libation but were told the bar was closed due to a wedding taking over the entire clubhouse when they had a separate barn for wedding events. I would suggest management visiting Sheboygan or Lake Geneva golf sites to view how good venues run their operations or hiring a new manager to get things right. Not worth the $100 green fee that we paid.
Won’t be returning.
Tight fairways, difficult greens
The course requires accuracy.course knowledge is critical as it’s Easy to lose balls.
disappointing
First time playing the Bog. I had heard this was a good course. i have played many Arnold Palmer courses and never been disappointed so my expectations were fairly high. Overall the design is a little quirky especially the back nine. It feels a little like they ran out of property to fit a couple of holes in. Certainly not Palmers best effort. When combining that with the fact that course service was minimal, slow play for a weekday and not managed and overall felt like the staff was there just to take your money, I would not go back.
The Bog.
Always one of my favorite courses !Great price! Best part- I shot my age!!! I'll be back.
"blinded by the light"
I had not played the course and was really looking forward to it, especially after scoring a great "hot deal". I prefer courses that I have some idea where to hit the ball and this was certainly not one of them. On the back nine i hit a perfect drive down the middle and ended up on a sidehill lie in the fairway with the ball a foot below my feet! I think they should give out free course books with every golfer.
Challenging and beautiful
One of my favorite courses around. Played it twice this year and will play it again next year.
5 star layer out with 5 sets of tees
Even middle tee box still too long to carry for average golfers who only has 200yard tee shot.
