The Madison Club

About
The Madison Club is a local favorite that is known for its top conditions and challenging layout. It is one of the premier public golf courses in Pittsburgh. You won't find two holes that are alike on this diverse course. It can be especially tough your first time playing since there are several blind shots. The golf course tumbles across rolling, wooded hills, which makes it a hard course to walk but a beautiful one to look at. Golfers will have to contend with mature trees, rough, and a variety of elevation changes. The elevated tees offer some scenic respite from the golf course's many challenges. One of The Madison Club's most memorable holes is the par-3 17th, which begins with a forced carry over water. It is considered one of the best public holes in western Pennsylvania.

No longer a "goto" winter course
Madison club was never a place to play in season. The layout is awful and way too many better places to play in nice weather. However is was a great winter course to play until these last 2 years. When you put each flag within 2-3ft on front corners edges on every hole, don't put tee markers out and go cart path only on a beautiful December day you are pretty much telling your customers you don't want their winter play-The flag positions are the most curious- if protecting the greens is what they are trying to accomplish then they have failed because everybody's ball goes to the center of the green anyway--Played Cedarbrook(another winter only course) the next day and what a difference. It was like playing real golf--No reason ever to go back to Madison.
Disappointing
Have played madison Club since it first opened and have noticed slow deterioration of the course but today when we played I was shocked at the extremely poor conditions. The tee boxes were fair and the greens were fair but the fairways were in terrible condition. This used to be one of my favorite courses but I won't return anytime soon.
Great Course
It has been quite a few years since I played Madison only because it is a 40 minute drive and not a lot of my playing partners want to drive that far. I was very impressed with the conditions for November 10. Fairways were in great shape and the greens were putting fast. I need to get back there nest summer.
Nice day in the course
This course is one of my favorites in the Pittsburgh area. As usual, the fairways are in great shape and the greens Road true. The one disappointment was the sand traps, which were full of water and untouched. This is somewhat understandable due to the torrential rains the day before. However, I think a top-notch place would have better drainage in the traps, more sand, and a priority for getting them ready for play as soon as the rain is stopped. I still recommend the course. I love the layout, the challenge, and the pace of play. I was also pleasantly surprised by the price on a Friday morning which was $33 for a senior with a cart
Beautiful Course
The fairways and greens are in great shape. The fairways feel like there is air under them. Makes a beautiful divot. Couple holes that you don’t need driver. Some target golf. Overall really good for the money compared to other public courses
A beautiful day on a beautiful course
A beautiful day on a beautiful course. Spent a nice morning with regular friends golfing one of the better layouts in the Pittsburgh area‘s golf community. The course was in great shape. Didn’t hear the usual excuses from a course and his staff about too much rain to cut, etc. The greens were fair and rolled smoothly, though I would prefer that they were faster. The fairways were in perfect shape despite the heavy rains we have been having.
well worth the money
the course is always in excellent condition. a well run golf course with friendly professional service. pace of play was very comfortable on a busy Sunday, not waiting, not pushed. good shot selection and some challenging pin placements keep it interesting. best value around!
Course cost
Had a group of 48 that played in our annual Rider Cup match. Between Ohio/Pa. Even though the course looks very nice it is way over priced for what you get. Played way better course's for less.
Totally worth it
My wife and I played this course for the first time and our overall experience was just awesome. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The course from the first tee you could tell it was well managed, the fairways were in amazing condition and the best of the all, the greens were immaculate. It rolled true and fast even with scattered rain. There were a few unrepaired ball marks (which I took the time fix other than mine), but you could tell most other players there were considerate to others.
The course is challenging but fair. It just played long with the rain, but drainage was pretty good as we didn't have to have any puddles in the fairway. The course layout is super interesting and no hole were alike. Someone behind us noticed that each hole plays down, except for #18. It is quite hilly for walkers, especially to next tees. We usually walk to play but chose to ride since it was our first time, and we are glad we did because would have had climbed up quite many hills.
Great layout
There are a number of very memorable holes on this course from the par 5 with the rough down the middle of the fairway to several blind par 4s with varying elevation changes to the terrific par 3 from an elevated tee with a lake in the background.
The greens roll true and the conditioning is terrific. This course is worth the drive.
Loved it.
Great course for a decent price considering the quality of the course, it is a course with a lot of up and down but what I liked is that even though it was very undulating throughout the round it wasn't to the extent that every approach shot was from a funky lie. Nice even fairways but still a challenge for the average golfer. The course makes you play every club in the bag and that is what I like, nice mix of distances for the holes, par 3, 4 and 5s all varied. Only strange thing was on the Par 3 8th hole the tee box was a mat because they can't keep the grass there? Not a bad thing just different.
The Madison Club is incredible!
Played there for the first time on 7/26/15. The course was in amazing shape and could not have been a better value for the money. I ABSOLUTELY recommend it.
Marshy Track
Second round on the course this year.
Main problem with this round was that a month of rain had underscored drainage problems on the course. Plugged more than a handful of drives during the round and had a nearly impossible time playing wedges from tight lies near the green.
The layout is interesting in that it takes the driver out of the hands of long hitters but plays some of the most severe doglegs in the state.
Excellent course
Madison club is truly a gem in western pennsylvania. Beautiful fairways. Green fast but need to be more receptive to shots that hit them kind of hard. Very good course
A remote beauty
Too much rain made playing conditions ridiculous. No roll and plugging galore. I lost 3 balls, 2 in the fairway and actually one on a green (They all plugged). Hit a high wedge onto the green and it just disappeared and never found it. One ball plugged in the fairway and happened to see a small one square inch of white in the ground. I pulled it out and it was my ball. Strangest round I ever played.
My Favorite Local Course
It is a well kept, scenic and fast paced course during the weekdays. (I avoid golfing on weekends unless I am in an outing). The course is my local favorite.
This course is close to home
Despite the howling wind and rain on the first two holes, the weather man was wrong again. Sun came out after chipping on second green. Front nine was aeriated two weeks ago, but played very well. The back nine had just been aeriated, and had lots of sand on it. Wind was a strong factor in scoring low. Great day and enjoyed ourselves.
Great local course
Always enjoy playing this course. Conditions were wet from recent weather but that was to be expected. As far as local courses go in this area it's hard to find one better than The Madison Club.
