Banquet room & course
I play here and hosted my first event at the Huntsville Country Club. Tbe golf course is in excellent shape. The greens are amazing and tbe fairways and rough are well groomed. I know the club we through a period where the greens were redone and it took some time to get them back but THEY ARE BACK and better than ever.
I also had an event there and below is my review from the event:
My wife held my 50th birthday party at Huntsville Country Club. It was a rather small even (30 to 40 guest) the party was setup upstairs in the banquet rooms and it was amazing- it is a very elegant space and the staff were very nice and Accommodating..
Every staff Member including the chef came up to wish me a happy birthday. Evenn though it was a small event the Huntsville Country Club staff made it seem like we purchased a VIP experience. The food was also excellent- it was setup nice and there was plenty for everyone. I would defenately reccomend the Huntsville Country Club as a place to hold an event from Birthday Parties to Weddings. You wont be disappointed...
A big thank you to Beth, Michelle, Chef Earl and all the staff that made this an event to remember.
Tight parkland layout demands accuracy off tee
Huntsville Country Club is a course that players with exceptional control of their ball- particularly off the tee - will fall in love with, and thrive on.
HCC is short by today’s standards at 6,586 yards from the tips, 6,164 from the member’s tees and 5,710 from regular men’s tees. That, however, is misleading. If one is inaccurate off the tee and can’t find fairways, and sometimes the correct half of the fairway, the holes will play long due to punching out of the tree-lined fairways with overhanging branches that can be a straight-ball-flight-striker’s nightmare. Where one will see the most obvious reasons for the length on the card will be on the par 5s. All are reachable provided you can find the fairway off the tee. Three of the four measure less than 500 yards from the member tees, with the lone holdout coming in at 511. All are excellent risk/reward holes and can offer mid-to-short irons in for second shots, but they are properly guarded to keep bogey or worse in play.
The course played firm and fast today. The fairways were closely-cropped. The greens were converted from Bent to Bermuda roughly a year ago and have come back strong. I would recommend allowing for a half club of release on approach shots with anything other than a wedge in hand. Greens are grainy but roll true. There is a lot of slope in the greens.
One thing that I liked about the course that added a lot of character is the mogul mounding found throughout, a rarity in Alabama. LaFoy did a good job with this on the re-design. I also liked subtle elements like the fairway shelving on No. 7, which makes an otherwise mundane hole intriguing.
Standout holes include the par-5 6th, par-5 11th and par-4 12th. The par-4 18th has an element of the 18th at Augusta, though on a smaller scale. The uphill tee shot won’t require a driver off the tee for most players, but one will have to navigate the magnolia tree on the right side of the dogleg right hole, which must be cleared or avoided to have a proper play into the green. Though no bunkers guard the left side of the landing area, if a tee shot goes through the fairway, a player will find the self under another magnolia with a good lie not to be found. Deep scalloped bunkers guard the green.
The course is very walkable and a ballstriker’s dream.
Maintenance
This course is a work in process as all of the greens are being upgraded. Because of this, all the temporary greens are very small, uncut and almost impossible to putt on. Although course maintenance crews were working all over the course, the tees were un-numbered and uncut as were the fairways.
Hopefully all of these issues will be resolved when reconstruction of the greens are completed. Beautiful, tight little course that I'll consider playing in the future.
awesome course
Great course, great weather. Fast greens
Good trek
Overall nice course. Greens have been aerated recently but still rolled pretty good. Would play again for sure.
Winter Golf
Given the time of year and that most greens have a few sizable areas under heavy repair (and unmarked so no relief), I only play here in the winter when I can snag a substantial discount from golfnow.
Disappointed
I waited almost a year to play this course and I was disappointed. Fairways and tee boxes were fine. The greens were atrocious, missing whole patches of grass! The greens will add ten strokes to your score. Normal price to play this course is $68, and I would have been furious if that's what I had to pay. They just hired a new superintendent and it should improve in next 3 months.
Huntsville CC
This was very disappointing outing! The greens were in terrible shape (the worse in the area) with a lot of bare spots and many weeds growing into them. The tee box and the fairways were in great shape. The course is conveniently located but the regular price is outrageous for the current quality of the course. The staff was young and not very helpful or friendly. I will not play there for awhile until the greens have been fixed!
Great potential
The course is in the middle of being repaired so it's obvious that the greens could be improved on along with the fairways. Fairway grass was long. No markers on the holes. Range was nice, balls provided which is a nice country club touch. Good carts is always a plus. Facilities well kept and staff friendly. Overall, it was a pleasant experience and the course has tons of potential. I am definitely looking forward to seeing this course at its best. I plan on playing on a not so dreary day the next time. Great job to the staff and ownership for getting this course back to 100%.
Great value on a Sunday
The course is in great shape. The practice facilities are top notch. The par 5's are reachable, but if you don't make a good second shot, you'll regret not playing it in regulation.
We got behind a tournament- and the back was really stacked up, so we were allowed to play the front again.
very helpful
Staff was very friendly and helpful. The course was starting to green up and was well maintained.
Course wasn't in best of shape
Grass was dormant and not in best of shape. Weeds in certain areas and had crabgrass problem. Looked like they hand pulled crabgrass and greens showed it
Very Enjoyable
Great people. Great historic course for Huntsville.
Course in bad shape
I actually went on the wrong day, but the gentleman at the pro shop gave me a discount so that I could play anyway. He was ver nice. The course is in poor condition. There are a lot of weeds, very little good grass, no signs at each hole to let you know which hole you were playing and the yard ages, and no yardage markers along the fairway. I was very disappointed with this country club, and I will not go back.
Nice course needs a little TLC
We had some recent rain and the course was in tough shape. They had standing water on the cart paths and somefairwayd were in rough shape. It is a beautiful course and proximity to downtown is nice. Look forward to going back later this spring.
Great value for the public
The Country Club was a fun course to play and with the Golf Now price - a value you can't turn down. It's still winter but the course was in ok shape to play. Greens are a little rough - but better than some in the area.
Interesting Course
Fun to play, average length. A shot placement course.
Hot Deal Value
Got a Hot Deal round for ~$20! Definitely worthwhile at that price, but I wouldn't spend much more to play this course. A group of 10 split into two groups of 5 ahead of us. Since they were all playing together, they weren't letting our twosome pass so we waited on pretty much every hole. Even with that, we still finished in 4 hours.
Also, beware of the club house beverage prices; $2.25 for a 12oz soda and it took the young man almost 5 minutes to figure how how to give change after we had to tell him how much change we were due.
Long course with difficult greens
Overall the course was good. There are some long holes with difficult doglegs. This course would be great in summer or spring.
Under new management
This is yet another golf course struggling to survive.
It is a bit short, but play the back tees. Definitely worth the golf now price.
