Bear Creek Golf Club is one of the courses that makes Hilton Head Island one of the country's most popular golf destinations. Rees Jones designed the course, routing the layout through majestic pines and sparkling blue lagoons. Jones kept much of the existing landscape intact, earning the golf course Audubon certification. There are five sets of tees total, with the longest stretching over 6,800 yards. It's a course that players of all skill levels can enjoy regardless of handicap. The tight, bunkered fairways are an infamous feature of the course but Bear Creek is also known for having some of the best greens on Hilton Head Island. The finishing hole is the course's signature. You'll have to navigate your way past a narrow chute of pines to reach the green, which is fronted by a large lagoon.

Course needs attention

Fun layout, but course condition needs attention. It appears the course receives a lot of play, but when playing on HHI a certain course condition is expected and Bear Creek did not live up to that expectation.

Great Layout - well-worth the price.

The course layout is great, but the tee boxes are really rough and the fairways are really thin at the edges. The rough is mostly hardpan. The traps are inconsistent and very thinly filled most requiring chipping out rather than blasting. The greens were true and the best part - they are very well-maintained, albeit a bit slow. Range balls were included and the pace of play was fantastic. I’d definitely play it again.

Good course, but skip the "Practice & Play" deal

We come to Hilton head every March, and have played Bear Creek many times. We normally sign up for their "Practice & Play" membership, which used to be a good deal (very low rates after 2:30). But this year, it was hard to get a decent tee time with this program. The earliest times were we able to book were around 3:45 or 4:00 PM. I suppose more people have discovered this deal and it is causing crowding. For next year, we'll just pay the GolfNow rate and play earlier in the day. Otherwise, we like the course: not too difficult, fairly good condition, pace of play is usually OK, reasonable rates. Most of the staff is firendly but there is one younger woman in the pro shop who makes lots of mistakes and is very, very unpleasant. If you book a tee time with her, call again in a day or two to confirm it -- she often fails to enter the tee time into their system.

Good track, First time playing the course, Tee box to green the course was in good shape but not 105$ worth. Greens are pure and in great condition for this early in the season.

Very Nice

Course was in very nice shape. Greens were very good, fairways average. Apparently the bunkers were being replaced, the ones that were done are great, the ones not done yet are cement. All in all a very good day.

Fun course for avg handicapper

For the avg Sr golfer, the course plays well, and fairly easy to handle. You need to focus on course layout and aim and hit accurately-- at least as best as you can!
