Championship at Moon Valley Country Club

About
Moon Valley Country Club's Championship course features excellent conditions and a spot in Arizona's long golf tradition on a par-72 18-hole course first designed by Dick Wilson and redesigned by Bob Cupp and Associates. This golf course challenges all levels, playing 5,285-7,216 yards.
Moon Valley Country Club's Championship course begins on a par-4 371-yarder, requiring a drive left to see the green: bunkers guard front and left. The fourth is a par-5 511-yarder. Shoot a birdie. Keep the tee shot away from the right fairway bunker. Close on the 411-yard, par-4 18th, which requires an accurate drive to miss bunkers right and trees and water left. You'll face the course's most intimidating shot: a two-tiered green, featuring a left side four feet higher than the right, 15 yards deep. It's guarded front back by bunkers. The hole location on the right is difficult.
Bunkers block a green sloping front to back, making it tough to stop the ball on the surface.

Not a Country Club Golf Course
I was looking to join this club on their most recent membership special but after playing the course that will not be happening. I am a 2 handicap and played the back tees. Many of the holes are setup so poorly due to overgrowth or just layout in general you can hardly play them. The course was completely burned out in many locations and this was even agreed upon by one of the grounds crew, who mentioned that it had not been watered last night. In many other areas they could not mow the grass because it was too wet due to broken sprinkler heads. The greens were rolling at about and 8.5 and had dead spots on some holes. The one aspect of the course that was in good shape were the bunkers, they appear to have had new sand recently. The course is not the priority at this club and I would not recommend this course for a true golfer
Great old school club/course
Had been back and forth on joining a private club for the past year. Was lucky enough to find Moon Valley CC on golf now this summer. Played the course a few times over the past 3 months and every time I played the layout and pace of play kept me wanting to come back. One of the few courses that isn’t a desert style layout in the area and this course plays over 7200 yards from the back tees making it a rare find. Love having to work the ball around trees on the course and off the tee. Greens were very smooth and semi-quick (for summer conditions). Between the tennis courts, pool, fitness center, golf and practice area you cant find a better overall value.
Great Layout
I had always wanted to play Moon Valley but thought it was always private. I was excited to see it could be booked on Golf Now. Practice facility was top notch, course was in great shape considering it’s about to shut down for overs seed, it was a great layout and we scooted around in 3 hours. My only complaint would be, having never been there before, I had no idea where to go. Bag drop, where to park, where the pro shop was, etc. We figured it out though and it was no big deal. I’ll definitely look forward to goi g back.
very nice experience
MV is a real, traditional country club track. It is a private course so i was surprised to have an opportunity to play there. From the pro shop to the beverage cart, everyone is super nice and friendly. The course was in good shape and it was a nice change from desert links golf.
Not good
Do not play here, no grass in the fairways at all and greens were fast but nothing smooth about them. Course needs ALOT of work to be a good course.
good value
We played on a hot Monday starting at 10:30. One single played around us on the 4th hole. No one else in front or behind us all day. We played in about 3 hours. Not well signed if not a member when you arrive or next hole locations. No bev cart. Fairways are dry. Greens nice and smooth.
Mediocre
I played this course as a guest on Tuesday March 19th afternoon.
The front 9 was in good shape with good rolling greens. Staff in the shop and restaurant was friendly and welcoming.
However, the back 9 was a different story. There was work being performed on numerous holes. There were 3 holes were tractors and workers were directly in front of the green on your approaching shot so you couldn't even see the flag on these holes.
Also, on 2 different occasions we had a tractor circle us 3 times. We played with a fairly new member to the course and it thought they were playing a joke on us and he couldn't believe it.
No beverage cart on the course as well in March which is surprising.
I think once the work is completed the course is going to be nice. However, please take my advice and pass on the opportunity to play here until the work is completed!
Great Place
I like the staff here and for as hot as it is the course is in great shape! Sandtraps are excellent which is where you can see a golf course is skimping or not.
Summer fun
Make sure you where a collared shirt, “this is a country club.”. Not welcome to Moon valley hope you a great round and really enjoy it we would love to have you join. Later afternoon round greens were quick but a little bumpy. Playing from back tees 2nd hole to 3rd very confusing as to where to go. Had to call club house to get directions. After that pretty straightforward.
Food was very good before and after the round.
Excellent Conditions
It appears that the old struggles of Moon Valley Country Club are over. The course was in excellent shape tee to green, and the greens themselves were some of the purest I have ever played. If you get an opportunity to play the club be sure to take it! It was a great alternative, too, from the typical Arizona desert layout. If I lived closer, I would seriously consider joining...this strikes me as the type of course you could play every day and never get bored.
Best Greens I've Played in Years
The course itself was a breath of fresh air. In a world of desert golf courses, a tree-lined stroll was a sight for sore eyes. The conditions were excellent all around, but man, THE GREENS!! They ran about 11.5-12 and were smooth as ice! Wish this place wasn't so far from home or I'd join in a heartbeat. Great track - can't wait to play again.
Excellent Facility
Had the distinct pleasure of playing Moon Valley today. Course was in fantastic shape. Greens were some of the fastest in the valley, smooth, firm and running true. Tee to green was lush and well manicured. I forgot how much I loved playing this facility. Of all the private courses within 25 minutes of my house, this is the one I would join if I had the time in my schedule. Amenities are all top notch and the staff make everyone feel at home, even guests!
If you get lucky enough to get a chance to tee it up here, take full advantage!
Moon Valley CC: Dick Wilson's Parkland beauty in Phoenix
Dick Wilson completed the Moon Valley Country Club's golf course in the early 1960's. Robert Cupp completed the re-do in 1999. At a bit over 7,200 yards from all the way back, it is all you can handle as one of the few parkland style tracks in the Valley of the Sun. MVCC is firmly ensconced within the history of the game of golf in Phoenix. Bob Goldwater (brother of Senator Barry) had the vision and wherewithal to get it built. Many years later, the club was purchased by the founder of Ping Golf, Karsten Solheim. For many years, the facility played host to the Ping Standard Register LPGA golf tournament, where, in 2001, Anika Sorenstam shot 59 enroute to that year's title. Troon Golf has managed the club operations for well over a decade, so you will always get terrific course conditions, a superlative staff and great food and beverage offerings. While the design doesn't impress with spectacularly memorable holes, it DOES keep your attention by providing a routing od solid tests, one after another. There are a few birdie holes scattered within that routing. Make hay on them as you can, as there are certainly more difficult holes than there are easy.

Nice layout and challenges
Course is in impeccable shape. Management knows how to satisfy their customers. There was a mix up on the #10 tee box, but Chris Treat handled it in a professional manner, defusing any animosity. A must play.
True greens, false bunkers
Very nice old school, tree lined course. Greens were rolling great and putting was smooth. Gud help you if you got into a bunker though. They were hard as a rock and even had a muddy layer under the surface.
Older course that still has appeal to all levels .
I enjoy playing the course . This course has been maintained over the years . I'm sure it struggles with memberships as many do in this Phoenix market . To see such a large complex underutilized is a shame .

Thank you for the kind words. We look forward to having you back to Moon Valley.
Not a country club more of a muni
Dont waste your time here. Staff made us play as a 4- some with no one on course. Claimed it was policy. What a joke. I was a golf professional for 12 years and when i heard that i about flipped a lid. When we got away from clubhouse we split into two somes since there was absolutely no one on course that afternoon. Course was in pretty shabby condition. This place used to be nice but is now poorly taken care of. Greens were in good shape though. Only thing good here.
It appears the issue is not with course condition, but rather maintenance staff customer service..... or lack there of.
It is call remodeling the course.
As far as I am concerned don't come back. The course is pristine.
Again Don't come back please
