Calderone Golf Club

About
Calderone Golf Club in Grass Lake is popular for being one of southern Michigan's most popular courses. The layout offers an interesting variety with holes ranging from Scottish-style links to traditional parkland. You'll feel like you're getting several golf courses in one with heather-lined holes reminiscent of the British Isles, holes framed with trees that would fit in at Pinehurst, and several greens that will make you feel like you're playing at the Masters in Augusta. You'll also come across a variety of bunkers, from white sand to waste bunkers as well as unique grass traps lurking along the sides of the putting complexes. Calderone Golf Club sprawls across dramatically undulating terrain, providing undulations around the fairways and greensides that make for an interesting round. There are many opportunities to find the landing zones off the tee, but scoring on the undulating putting surfaces bordered by natural grass, mounding, and bunkering will be much tougher.

Fantastic course except for highway noise
My buddy moved to the Jackson area so we came down here to play golf at Cascades the day before on Tuesday, September 5, 2023, which was very hot. We enjoyed playing that course where Jack Nicklaus played back in the 60s but we’re happy to play here at Calderone on Wednesday morning early before the heat certain and we just got caught in rain on the 17th or around 11 AM. We were very happy with this course. It was excellent conditioning had a lot of challenge and a very visually stimulating course but stay out of the same bunkers. The sand traps were a very heavy brown sand, but there was plenty of sand in the traps.
We enjoyed it a lot more than we did. Cascades probably a good portion of it was due to the weather but also the modern force of Calderone designed by William Newcomb and it was 70 years newer of course nothing bad to say about this course at all maybe the 16th short part for over the big trees is the only really gimmicky hole there was And the long blonde haired kid in the clubhouse was a dud with no people skills cannot smile. Other than that the carts were fine there was no GPS which is fine for us but there is plenty of 150 yard markers so you know where you stood if you did not have a viewfinder and I tell you what the value of those courses amazing at $34 for seniors on a weekday you cannot beat it. Definitely come and play this course.
CAUTION! They over book tee times
Showed up at 8 am for a 8:40 tee time. Group of 16 golfers turned away due to over booking. Sounds like what the airlines do.
Have golfed here before. Course was nice. Sad this is how they run the course now. Golf courses are closing. Wonder if this one is going to close soon.
Bunkers
Lotsa rocks in the sand I would recommend clean out the sand or replace as a friend of mine ruined his new ping wedge !! Terrible size rocks too about the size of a golf ball. Greens are like playing a putt putt course lotsa undulation !! Other than that it’s o good playing course !!
One of the best
This course hasn’t been in this good of shape in a long time if ever. Beautiful course
Great links style course!
Great course that is in great condition! 32.00 on a holiday was a plus.
Great Value
This course is already in better shape then when I played it last year. Great value even at full rate
Very disappointed!!!!!!!
Won't be back. Greens were beat up & missing grass in many parts of the green. So were the fairways. Par 3 tee boxes were horrible. We were told over the phone they would honor senior rates on Sunday morning. When we showed up they weren't standing by what they said. Charged us full price under bad conditions. We had 16 golfers & drove over 60 miles. Played there at least twice a year. Never again.
Nice day
This is a great course for the money. Usually this course is in very good condition however the greens are struggling. 2 of the greens had recently been punched with a very aggressive machine that made them unputtable. The rest of the greens were on the slow side with a lot of lazy people not fixing their divots. Not typical of this course. Great course to play 2 rounds as the afternoons aren't as busy.
Great challenging course
Calderone is a nice course to play. It has some challenging holes and overall was in good condition. Some of the tee shots are blind so pay attention to the corse map. For the price, you will definitely enjoy the round.
Calderone Golf Course
Played on Nov. 14, 2017. Weather was cool with little wind. Fairways in good condition. Greens had been aerated but were almost fully recovered. This is a challenging, but fair, course to play with some elevation changes that are a little surprising for this area of the state. Clubhouse is a basic one. Staff has always been very friendly. Always play this course at least once a year.
Great Value,
Played Calderone many times and is one of my favorites. Even with fall aeration underway, had a great experience. Well thought out pin placement and aeration of 1/2 the green at a time made for a very playable round. Staff was great and pace of play phenomenal. Looking forward to my next round. Numerous tee options also give great versatility to your experience
Great links course with lots of heather
Challenging, well maintained course. Great value, would definitely play again. If I had to nitpick, a lot of the bunkers are filled with gravel. For such a great course, that is not acceptable. A+ otherwise.
Pace of play
We played the front nine in 1 hour 30 minutes, we played the back nine in 2 hours 45 minutes, why because the front was played with all twosomes in front of us, we were a twosome but when we made the turn another two some joined up with the group in front of us and that slowed the rest of the golf course down to a crawl. They jumped on the back because they let out a group of couples 4 guys playing and the women not, but that only lasted 1 hole and they started playing and 8some. Very disappointed.
Love this place
This is a great place to golf if your a big hitter. Absolutely worth the money if your a back tee player. I golf all over Michigan and all over Texas. Honestly, for the money, this place is second only Houston National in Texas, and is very likely the best value for the money anywhere in Michigan. Obviously, if your not a back tee player then you may not agree, but if you can slam a driver 280+ then you have got to go to Calderone at least once.
