Angeles National Golf Club is the only Nicklaus Design course in Los Angeles County. It is tucked away in the Angeles National Forest. This championship course is known for being one of the area's most challenging with tough greens that are lightning fast and more than 50 strategically placed bunkers. There are also two lakes and a creek that come into play. Golfers should be prepared for long par 4s and demanding carries over ravines and barrancas. Not only is it a golf course that requires length, you'll also need accuracy. Angeles National Golf Club finishes with a par 4 that plays from an elevated tee alongside the rushing creek that edges the left of the fairway and to the right of the landing area there's a deep bunker. To the right, the green is bordered by deep grass hollows and bunkers and there is a lake to the left.

The course was in very good condition but you need to be a fairly good golfer to enjoy the course or you will need a lot of balls.

Poor pace of play

Course is in good shape with nice fairways (although quite firm) and perfect greens. What ruined it for me was even teeing off at 7:50 AM, we could not get around in under 5 hours. No marshall showed up even as the group in front of us was 2-3 holes behind. The cart GPS is complaining to us about our pace and yet it's all caused by one group of beginners. Weekend golfers who have no clue about how to play golf nor how to keep up with the group in front. Paying over $200 for a round where you can never get into a rhythm is a total waste.

STAY AWAY.

Please don’t play this course. Please stay away. Quit giving these people your hard earned money. For the price they charge, it should be in perfect condition with tip top service. It isn’t. They are stealing money from people for the way it is.
Used to play here when it first opened, and like many places at such prices it was good. But not any more. The owners of this place no longer care. In fact, I think they never did.
The range is crooked now in half, and they have not found a solution. I guess they are not allowed to build a large fence along the houses to block errant shots because then that would block the houses’s views. Ridiculous.
The clubhouse is already rundown, and it’s only been 20 years. It was never a good clubhouse anyway, small shop thing downstairs where you pay, with a decent restaurant and bar upstairs - but the location of the course was always going to be an issue, in this poorer neighborhood. And because the place doesn’t want to attract the poorer clientele, they have the high prices. Seriously, that’s the only reason. They certainly don’t put it back into the course. Course is trashed as ever. It always had thin fairways, that is the design, but it used to be better. Who cares if the greens are ok, there are courses that do the same elsewhere. Again, the price!!!! Unbelievable.
I got a discount so I can’t complain about it but I would never pay the full price listed. No way.
No marshal, no starter, snack shop closed early. What is going with this place? Are they planning to close it?
The only reason why people keep going there is the Nicklaus design label. That’s how they sucker people. Truth is, Jack didn’t design it, it was his kid. It has the Nicklaus signatures but again, for the price, the conditions should be 10 times better than at the local munis. Heck, the local munis are in better shape than this now.
Why would you waste your money here. Stay away. Let tbem close down.

Good course

Condition is still good even if it was flood damaged in last weeks. Fairway, bunkers and greens are in good shape. It was more challenging by some blue tees moved to black tee.

Great Course Layout, in the nature!

Great Course Layout, in the nature!
Pace of play usually good in the morning, I plaid 2 rounds in 6 hours, starting early mirning.
A pitty, the club house is still closed on weekdays.
Also the kiosk and the driving range clised at 4pm
But if you concentrate on golf, it is the place to go.

I wish I could give this 0 stars for Value for the Money

To start, I took clients here thinking that for $187 per person, we would be getting a premium experience across the board. I recently played Desert Willows in Palm Desert where I paid less than this, so my expectation was something remotely close. Absolutely not. First and foremost, the clubhouse was not even open, and had it been, it looks to be as dated and out of shape as the course was. They had no starter, so our 10:24 tee time was backed up in 3 groups on a Sunday. No one moving groups along on the course. No cart person for drinks when it was almost 80 degrees out. Fairways were in terrible shape and the rough was mostly dead grass. I guess the highlight were the greens which were pretty hard, but inconsistent. Even the carts were falling apart. This course should be embarrassed to charge $187. This is 50-60 at best.

Pace pace pace….

I love this course but the marshall really needs to step up. I ended up skipping 2 foursomes to get back to a normal pace of play. Painful and something that happens often.

10/10!

First time playing Angeles national golf course. We’ve been trying to book this place for a few weeks now but the winds and the fires have stopped us from making our way up there. Decided to jump the gun and head out here and it was an absolutely perfect day!
The course conditions were immaculate, haven’t played on great course conditions like this in a while.
The greens were super fast, made for some tough putts but other than that it was great!
Only thing I did see that I would suggest is a stater. We were told to start on the back 9, no issue, but I did notice a few singles jumping on before/after us. And some riding thru to other holes. Not sure if that’s normal here but other than that it was perfect!

Thank you Angeles, we’ll be back! Winds won’t stop us

Marshall where are you???

For a course of this caliber and price, they need to have a marshall move slow players along and keep the pace. Absolutely insanely slow to the point that I left the course at the 14th.
