Bonaventure Golf Club
About
Bonaventure Golf Club (formerly known as Bonaventure Country Club) is a classic Florida layout with holes routed through strands of mature palms and hardwoods, and around numerous water hazards and expansive bunkers. This course, designed by Joe Lee, is also called the Green Monster. Some people call it the Cascade Course because of the waterfall on the picturesque 160-yard, par-3 third. This signature hole has a waterfall that stretches across the front of the green.

Course
First some tee boxes were like playground or community parks little to no grass, some par 3 had zero room for error. Some greens had crab grass an was so hard balls would bounce on the green an end up behind the first cut
Better than I expected from reviews
After reading some so so reviews I was pleasantly surprised by the course. It was purchased by a new owner 11 months ago and they have made steady improvements since then. Challenging holes for every skill level. Greens are still on the mend but roll pretty good. A great snack shack at the turn and very sweet ( and absolutely beautiful ) cart girls in the course to keep you hydrated. There is a little language barrier at the 19th hole but it worked out ok eventually. I would absolutely play here again.
The old East Course is coming back
Finally, after many years of neglect, someone has recognized the "fixer-upper" opportunity.
Still a long way to go but for the first time in maybe 7 or 8 years, I can say that I would play it again.
It was always a good layout and with better conditions coming back, the "East" could be really good again. Good Luck!
My New "Home" Course
I hadn't played Bonaventure since 2019 and I'm SO HAPPY that I came back. The course is coming back in shape and it's so nice to see. The layout isn't easy, the fairways are well maintained, and the greens are fast. I think that if they keep maintaining the course and take care of the greens, Bonaventure CC will be a top course to play in less than a year's time. Can't wait to play my next round here!
Same course, New Management
I’ve always heard about the terrible conditions at Bonaventure in recent years. I played with a random who mentioned it’s much better as of recent condition wise so I had to see for myself. Decent conditions but needs some work on the tee boxes and great layout. Will be back soon!
Good experience
Played here because it was in close proximity to Vacation Village. Plan on playing it again before my vacation week is over.
Recommend it to everyone.
Terrible
First of all, there was at least three foursomes on every hole and it took us nthree hours and 26 minutes to finish the front nine. The conditions of the fairways and tee boxes was horrendous. All in all I can be assured I will never play there again. Thank goodness, the gentleman and the pro shop reimbursed us 50% of our green fees, but unfortunately it was a day of golf wasted and I still have not seen the refund on my credit card.
Well worth the money.
Course doesn’t disappoint, good condition. They’ve done a great job getting the course back into playable condition. Keep it up, course still needs to be maintained to get better.
Great Golf Course
Very fun course with several areas which require a bit of finesse. Definitely will be back for another round.
Thank you
Just an incredible improvement of the greens
The tee box are almost perfect for most of them, and the greens are rolling, the sand traps are in excellent conditions with fresh sand all around.
Great time, and much better conditions. Thank you.
Challenging course
It was a very challenging course, greens were in decent shape. Fairways were also well-maintained. Be prepared for water on every hole and plenty of sand traps.
The only issue was the pace play was extremely slow. There was a group of three in front of us that obviously had never played golf before And did not understand the etiquette of letting others play through. Unfortunately, the Marshall left early so we did not finish the course. We gave up after 13 holes as it was just too painful to wait at every hole for the group in front of us.
Significantly Improved
Took a chance on this course again on a hot deal, but was pleasantly surprised at how much they've improved. A year or two ago this place was a total cow pasture, absolutely unplayable. As of April 2024, it is considerably better and a place that I would now consider when looking for tee times among the many public courses in the area.
There are a few greens with areas that need more attention, but flags were placed away from any problems and they did not factor into play. Greens were otherwise trimmed very short and rolled well.
Many approaches appear freshly grassed/sodded and fairways are in good shape, about on par with other courses in the area.
Tee boxes are now above average.
Bunkers all have very soft and silty sand, though most if not all of them have little rocks dispersed among the sand. Bring your higher-bounce wedges.
The left side of Hole 4 is all chopped down forest and tree waste. It looks like a giant burn pile. If you hit a hook off the tee, re-tee and hit again. It's blind off the left and you won't find your ball. Wish there was signage for this extensive of an excavation project. There wasn't any other construction or significant renovation on the course.
This course is not beginner friendly. Lots of water and forced carries. If you can't reliably carry a ball at least 120 yards, you will be in the water often and will likely fall behind the pace. Most people still play the middle tees and back when they probably should be on the forward tees on this course. Despite the extensive renovations and improvements, I can still see pace of play easily becoming a issue on a busy day.
Tee boxes and greens have seen a lot of traffic
Fairways are well kept, greens still roll fast but have sand and fertilizer mixed in seeing the dots in the floor on short outs might be distracting to some.
Greens seem like they’re ready to be punched.
