Fantasy day out even in very wet weather
A fantastic course with a great layout which was testing but very enjoyable.the staff were brilliant and very welcoming and I would definitely recommend Ashburnum to anyone .
Fantastic course and staff
The staff are outstanding very friendly and very good both the pro shop and the clubhouse.the pro shop is very well stocked and the staff very friendly and helpful.the food in the clubhouse was very good and have a great selection to choose from. Course itself is in very good condition.its a great design and very challenging.its what golf should be.if im ever back in the area i will definitely play it again.
Wet and boring
The course was not in very good condition and the weather certainly didn’t help.
Very expensive round of disappointing course and views
Tricky to play as no signs where to aim for first time visitors
Ashburnham GC
Great links course, played it nice and hot and dry, a great challenge
Warm welcome
Started out playing on my own, on hole 2 got invited to join a 3ball of members, fantastic hospitality shown by Trevor, Mark and Bryn , invaluable course knowledge given throughout my first time on a links course, would highly recommend this course and will definitely come back and play again
Great course
Whenever I visit wales i always make sure I play here! Greens are always in outstanding condition, given it’s feb they were firm and true.
Great links course and a test when the wind blows.
Highly overpriced.
Given the green fees I was expecting to play somewhere really special. However, compared to say Machynys, another lynx a few miles down the road this course is very poor.
The course layout was very confusing, if not for the hole layout online I would have been lost. Tees, greens and fairways often overlap which adds to slowness of play.
Holes 1 and 18 don't feel part of the rest of the course and you're often playing over or alongside roads and houses. It doesn't really feel like you're in nature playing here.
I was held up by lots of 4-balls, although I was always called through its still frustrating.
However, course was very challenging and a good experience to play, but I would not come back unless green fees were dramatically reduced. There are in my opinion far better courses around locally that charge no more than £30 a round. For that reason I can't see me ever returning.
Winter Haven
My own heathland course has taken a rain-soaked pounding of late, so it was another pilgrimage down to the "Ash".
What rain? We ask ourselves. Firm fairways, playable bunkers and greens (even though recently aerated) running fast and true.
Like most links, holes look relatively short on paper, but you have to plot and plan your way around these holes, with bumps and hollows and narrow fairways dotted with the traditional pot-bunkers, this is no easy ride.
Signature holes are the deceptive par 3 6th, the labyrinth-like 14th and the thinking-players18th. Friendly 19th with good food and a great pub of Guinness.
Good pro shop and helpful pro.
If you want dry fairways and fast greens during the winter months get down the Ash. Be warned , summer months really speeds things up!
Quality
A quality and classic links track. Great condition and layout with the perfect blend of challenge and enjoyment. A true gem. Pace of play was frustrating but still overall a fantastic day.
Great golf day
I booked a round as a sole player but was lucky to meet 2 American visitors who made my round more enjoyable and my past experience of the course benefitted them as I was able to give some pointers. The day was windy but dry so the course was challenging for the outgoing holes 3 to 8 but it helped on the inward 9, which are usually the more difficult. The day was busy but the round was reasonably quick at 3 hours 40.approx.
Absolute Gem
The back 9 holes on this course rival any other great links course in the UK. The members and staff were very friendly and welcoming, with the pro taking the time to talk me through the holes before I played. The setting is excellent and the course is a great challenge, and has to be the best course I have played in South Wales so far. Drive past Machnys and play here instead, as the course and club is an absolute gem.
Tough in the wind
A great course, which was challenging, as the front nine were all played into a strong breeze.
Unfortunately we teed off directly behind a club match (4 x 4 balls), so pace was pretty slow, as we were a 2 ball.
The group in front, did offer to let us play through, but we felt we would probably just end up being sandwiched between the groups in the match.
Unfortunately didn’t use the clubhouse, due to time restrictions
We were disappointed that winter greens were in place until 1.00 pm, so we played the first 6 holes and the 14th hole on temporary greens.
Expected a little more…
As a member of P&K playing Ashburnham for the first time, I was left a little under whelmed. I guess I expected more. It wasn’t a patch on my home club (tees, fairways and greens) but I did enjoy and I would like to come back in the summer months to see how it plays then.
