Lovely Monmouth back drop Photo submitted by OZwBwsLa9BHpwUNMO65O on 07/20/2020
Monmouth visit
I’d been planning a return visit after 9 years to Monmouth and noticed lots of availability on a Saturday afternoon. Was surprised at how quiet but club shop closed and also bar mid afternoon while I was still playing on a pleasant afternoon. Course is challenging with hills and climbing and ridges in front and to side of many greens. But the location and scenery and challenge can not be questioned. Narrow approach road bit scary but many courses in these scenic locations have this. Greens were a bit rough but not course fault maintenance done then no rain in weeks which I think course could do with at moment. Have to say though good value for money though pity couldn’t give rating on bar/shop/staff
Lovely course not so good facilities.
The golf course is very well looked after. I booked on a hot deal and now can see why it was a hot deal. Not many people playing on a Friday afternoon which was a bit worrying. Arrived and went to what I thought was the pro shop door, but all closed. The main n entrance into club house was closed. Alarm bells starting to ring. Finally got in around the back. No pro shop and no kitchen open, also no score cards to mark. Made it very difficult to mark you score.
Although the very nice lady behind the bar, did everything in her powers to make sure we had a lovely day. Thank you to her.
Don’t play here
Absolutely awful 9 holes closed and 1 temporary green we weren’t informed before hand,if I’d have known I definitely would’ve have played there.
Enjoyable day.
Interesting layout to the course, friendly staff, the greens were a tad boggy but it's the UK and it rains. Could do with better sign posting.
Buggy recommended...
Warm welcome, lovely bacon roll before we started, an essential for any golf course. A ropey weather forecast meant course was extremely quiet, with buggies unavailable.
Gorgeous views from most tees, followed by some large hills to walk up and down. Majority of the course was in excellent condition, although some greens were slightly slow and waterlogged (unsurprising given large amounts of rain recently).
Course knowledge is extremely valuable, as some signage between greens and tees is lacking. However this didn't detract from the overall positive experience. Next time though, my legs would appreciate a buggy....
Great course
Lovely course with well maintained everything. I played after a couple of rainy days and there were no drainage issues whatsoever. Some well thought out holes and some challenging slopes with more than one postcard hole. A buggy would be advised as there are a couple of reasonable climbs. Stunning views all round..
Very welcoming, pleasant course.
Arrived at the course, all members had teed off so we was allowed to tee off earlier if we wanted.
Parts of the course was closed off due to weather. What we played of the course was good. Can’t wait to go back when it’s dry and play the full 18. Some of the best views you’ll play around.
Staff in the clubhouse and members was very welcoming.
Overall, excellent. Can’t wait to come back.
A great day out at Monmouth Golf Course.
A lovely course with a number of challenging holes. Beautiful views across the valley and surrounding hills. A lovely clubhouse with very friendly staff. Course is hilly and takes a bit of walking but don't let this put you off. Course was in good condition given it is October and recent very heavy rainfall. The course was drier than my home course currently is and was open when other local courses were closed.
Friendly but challenging
Enjoyed a Monday round returning from holiday. Friendly welcome and the course was very quiet. However this is not a gentle stroll despite what on paper is a relatively short course. Many hills and challenging holes. Highly recommended. Only slight quibble were the greens but they still ran fairly true. Clubhouse very accommodating and reasonably priced (good) food.
Golf now deal
Had a £15 per player deal to play here which was great value for money, the scenery of the course was stunning. Only faults were the trollies being terrible and the greens were slow. No signage to make it clear where the next hole was. But overall a good day out and very good fitness up those hills!
Amateurish but you take the rough with the smooth
Definitely needs a lick of paint and some repairs!
Course very picturesque.
Trade off between a lovely (in the main) course (some attention to greens needed) to poor facilities. Reminded me of old working men’s club I frequented in the North East.
Group in front of us played intolerably slowly with an increasing stream of unfunny expletives. There is nothing better than seeing overweight people trying to work out their buggy can’t make it up a hill due to their collective bulk. Round took 5 hours!
Round survived.
Amazing Course
We drove 3 hours to get here for a round at this amazing course! anyone who wants a challenging course with great views should come here. The round trip was 6 hours and we are already organising our return. staff stayed open for us to serve us come lunch as they close kitchen at 3 but stayed open until nearly 4 to feed our group! have never experienced such amazing service at any golf course I've ever been to. Highly recommend to anyone who enjoys a nice round of golf with great food.
Great course
Hilly but fantastic course and holes, well maintained
Get a buggy
The course is lovely, great condition greens where a bit slow , we walked (never again) don’t think one hole was on the level nearest was 18th , every hole was either up hill or down hill loved playing and will definitely return ,but to fully enjoy get a buggy
Nice but a Hard Walk
Probably the hilliest course ive ever played , lots of picturesque nice holes going down but always steep climb holes back up , lots of plugging on fairways and greens even though weather hadnt been that wet , The course was quite wet probably because of all the hills. Greens ok quite slow. There was one dog leg hole ive neve seen anything like it was way past 90 degrees like a boomerang shape bizarre hole.
Not bad but definitely get a buggy if i return
