Soldier Hollow Golf Course - The Silver Course

I played Silver in late August ‘21, course was in good shape, it’s a pretty forgiving course- wide fairways, very little water that I recall, and even when you miss a fairway, the brush is sparse enough to find your ball pretty easily. Also there are very few trees to complicate lies and shots, but that also means no shade on the course, so dress appropriately and wear sunscreen on a sunny day.

Can’t think of any holes that stood out as being super interesting, but still a good round in good weather at a good price- $47 to ride. Range balls were $5 for sm-edium bucket. Didn’t use the snack bar, no drink cart around the course. The clubhouse is a bit of a detour as you make the turn, and your only option for anything during the round is a broken water fountain and a lonely soda machine (which also may have been broken, didn’t try it) that sat off the 13th green. There’s also a potty house at that spot. So while they have signs prohibiting outside food/drink (like every course), you’d be wise to have stuff with you before venturing out on your round.

Pace of play was a little slow (though it was a Saturday, went off around 11:30), round was about 4:35. All in all, I’d play there again if in the area, but might opt for the Gold course instead. Both are part of state parks, and I suspect would have more amenities- a drink cart, a Marshall to push pace, clubhouse with showers, etc.) if privately-run. But then it’d be a lot more expensive to play, sooo…

If you ever get a trivia question that asks "whats another term for a dump" the answer is Soldier Hollow Golf Course.. The facility is a waste of chemicals and fertilizer. Who is the gardener acting as the superintendent? I'm guessing that he has been in quarantine for the past 5 years. I suspect that this is a county owned golf course, like Wasatch, and you can really sense the county employee attitude as soon as you drive onto the property or walk into the pro shop - and I use the term pro shop very liberally. I've had a better time in a friend's backyard putting green..

We have been coming from Tulsa to Park City since 1993 for a guys' outing.

The Silver Course is our favorite. We have played the Gold, Homestead, Park Muni, Wasatch Lake & Mountain, Mountain Dell, Park Meadows, Wing Pointe, The Mill, Stone Bridge and Bonneville.

It is like a links course in that there are minimal trees and lots of run-up shots. After all these years I am still trying to figure out the greens (putts seem to break up hill!).

You can't beat the Silver (and the Gold) as a value for your dollar. Always use the facilities before you tee off and at the turn as there is only one relief station on the whole course. The lunch menu is excellent. Wear your sun screen after 10:00 am.
