The staff is the best!
Gateway is a great place to play, course is awesome. Challenging enough to bring out your game but also can shoot well if you play your game. But what is better than the course is the staff. From the starters who greet you when you get in to the pro shop and service. Everyone is so friendly.
1st Time
I have lived 20 miles from this course for over 20 years and I did not know it was here. So glad I found a hidden gem. It was an early season round but the greens rolled true. My only complaint was the weather did not cooperate. We were given rain, wind, and cold weather. Every golfer knows that is a bad combo.
Nice Links course
Nice fall course, no leaves and player friendly layout.
Beautiful course value
Arguably one of the best courses in Southeast Michigan
Review
Good pace of play for a Sunday. Greed were in good shapr
Nice track, but greens were beat up
The course itself was good from to Green, but most of the greens were beat up and extremely bumpy at times…
A hidden gem
I believe a lot of people don’t even know the course even exist. Course is in great shape. The greens is are fantastic and roll true. The superintendent is doing a great of a job!
The manager is a joke
We were the the first tee time on the Friday that me and my buddy played, they told us it was a back nine start, which is fine. However, they did not put the flags on the greens at all on the back nine so we were shooting blind into the green every time, if you’ve ever had that happen to you, you know how frustrating that is. We were able to look past that, however, when we made the turn to then play the front 9 we seen there were 3 foursomes lined up on the first tee box! I asked the starter what happened to the back nine start today, he said that it was a mistake and the course is now starting from the front 9 today. They told us that we could play the back nine again as nobody has made the turn yet. Or if we wanted to play the front nine he would have to pair us up with another two some while also playing behind 3 foursomes. Playing the front would have added atleast 2 hours to our time there. We grabbed the first tee time for a reason… the starters apologized and said they would talk to the manager to look into getting us a refund or a free round. Me and my buddy were not looking for handouts but this situation was aggravating, The manager refused to give us any compensation for his screw up. Only offering a apology through the starter, the manager wouldn’t even come out to see us to discuss the issue directly. The manager apparently said it was a “golf now issue” whatever that means. Me and my buddy ended up just playing the back nine again, but the managers customer service was absolutely terrible and it was just a frustrating situation. The course is in good shape, tee boxes are slightly beat up but still in good shape, greens roll very fast, a lot of downhill putts. Not my first time playing the course as I’ve had all good experiences here besides this time, but, I will not be back due to how the manager “managed” our situation after his screw up.
The greens are very beat up
I have played here many times and still love the layout of this course and that is for sure the major draw here. BUT - they are charging a lot to play here and the condition of the greens are a bit poor. Greens are beat up mostly due to high volume and people who don’t fix ball marks which totally sucks. Many of the traps are being let go and overgrown. Parking lot is coming apart. Pace of play was very slow for a Monday.
The setup of the holes is great - but the details are being neglected.
Not worth the money
Staff is incredibly rude and difficult to communicate with. Course is over priced for what it used to be. I don’t usually comment negative reviews but they really over did it. We’ve had problems with their staff but didn’t make a big deal about it. This time we booked 2 golfers on GolfNow which worked on our end. They claimed we paid for 1. We showed them the receipt from GolfNow. Even with that, they insisted on a senior rate for the 2nd golfer even though we paid so we got charged extra.. This course shouldn’t be more than $25 for 18. Issues such as this have happened before. When paying disputes come up the conversation always gets escalated. Very rude staff, difficult to work with. Value is not what its worth. Again, we’ve had other issues going there, didn’t make it a big deal. Now we had enough. Felt we should share with anyone else looking into this course. Condition not worth the value, they need to lower their rates to what it was and change the staff in the club house or at least emphasize respectful customer service. Usually were cool with members in a club house. Metroparks are significantly better.
Surprised in a good way
Didn’t expect much but I stumbled a cross a hidden gem in the Detroit area as I was in town for just the day. Very solidly good golf course everything the way it should be
I'm pretty sure no one was rude to you in the club house. When you came in we informed you it showed one person paid for. The pro shop charged you a senior rate as a courtesy to you because we understand you pay a discounted rated on the hot deals. It was golfnow that had the issue and you were told to give them a call they will take care of you. As far as the condition of Links at Gateway the course is in great shape and the staff works hard at taking care of it customers.
