Golf Advisor: Top 25 Most Improved U.S. Golf Courses (2017 #18)
Reviews
The course is not ready to be open
Was looking forward to this course opening . It was like playing a cow field fairways were horrible. Greens were ok. They should have waited to open or at least not charged a premium to play.
There are better courses in the area to play for less money. It reminded me of Metro West after they let that course go.
Poor value for an $80 round
Greens are fast and in decent shape. The rest of the course is in terrible shape. Pace of play was slow. Will not be playing this course again for a while until they fix the fairways and rough.
Lone Ranger- No Ranger
Course was just ok condition. Greens good. Fairways ok but thin. Rough was, well, pretty rough. Tee boxes were ok..after all you are hitting off a tee! There is a lack of fringe/grass around the greens resulting in lengthy run-offs on shots that narrowly miss the green. The biggest complaint was slow play. Waited on every shot due to following a 4-some that acted as if every shot was for the championship of the world. 2-3 practice swings before every shot after analyzing the shot 5 different ways. NO RANGER in sight. 4.5+ hour round.
Greens great, bunkers in great shape, fairways and rough poor.
Slowly Coming Into Its Own
After having been closed for the past 5+ years, the course opened several months ago under new management. The layout remains essentially the same with few changes. However, the course has yet to fully grow in from its recent renovation and repair after several years of abandonment. Greens are in good condition but there are some dead areas on the fairway as well as a few wet muddy areas (not sure if these are drainage issues or are under repair.) Regardless, if you can get a round for under $45, it represents a good value. Over time, I expect the course to grow into its own and rival many of the better courses in the area.
Great Track! Greens are Perfect!!!
Green are perfect! There are definitely some areas they are struggling with drainage and the grounds closer to the greens can be really soft but, it shouldn’t stop you enjoying this gem! This course is really coming along! Staff is amazing throughout the club! Huge Fan!
Nice to see it back, but a long long way to go.
I played this course about a decade ago, and seeing as to how it was just recently reopened, I thought I would give it a shot. The first two/three holes are in average shape, however, once you turn onto hole #4, the course conditions drop in quality tremendously. The fairway plays like rough, and the rough plays like borderline regular grass. The course's greens are okay, however they are incredibly fast, almost like putting on concrete. The course's restaurant is solid. It's good to see that this course is open again, as the layout is very good, but there is a LONG way to go for course conditions to return to their previous status. They should have not opened for this season and let the grass cultivate for another few months.
Hope to see an improvement!!
Would be a great course if...
Stonybrook West would be a great course if it was in better shape. The layout is great, and it would be a really fun course to play, but the fairways were in really lousy condition, especially the back nine. On the back nine the fairways were pretty much hardpan with many bare areas.
Not bad, like the layout
Played early so pace was not a issue for my pickup group. Course was a little wet so I had a few mud balls and two plugged lies, not blaming the course. The facility seemed out of place for the turn so I didn't stop and I only saw one restroom at 14 or so. Other than that no complaints and I would/will play it again of I can. Greens were decent and rolled nice.
Hopeful!!
We played at a very relaxed pace we didn't see another group till the 7th hole.course was in rough shape but,I am hopeful the new owners will get the course up to par. They did great job with the Greens it was rolling at a 9 or 10 and running true. just for the greens alone I would come back and play again..
Good value , On the upswing
It is impressive how much the new owner was able to do in a short period of time since the course reopened. The fairways have a few rough spots, the bunkers are in good shape and the greens are very fast wide open fairways. Excellent value for the car cost. I'll definitely be back to play again soon. The staff was friendly and very receptive to a few small suggestions. It's the attention to detail.
Coming back
The greens were in good shape and fast. The fairways need a little more time for yh grass to grow in as they're a little bare! The pace of play was terrible. If not for three groups in front of me quitting because of the pace of play I wouldn't have finished before dark with a 1:30 PM tee time!
