Shadow Ridge Golf Club

About
Nick Faldo brings his exacting, often critical eye to West Coast golf for the first time at this Shadow Ridge Golf Course in Palm Desert. Faldo wanted a design that forced a ton of strategic choices and the architect team of Brian Curley and Lee Schmidt delivered for him.
Options? You want options!
Ten of Shadow Ridge's 18 holes are doglegs. The towering Santa Rosa Mountains serve as backdrop. The tall native tawny grasses contrasts sharply with the white sand bunkering. But it's the golf choices that are likely to seize your attention at this 7,006-yard, par-71 course.
The finish alone is enough to rattle an average golfer to the bone. No. 17 is a 157-yard par 3 that puts the wind in your face and nothing but trouble straight ahead. There's a lake to carry, deep bunkers and a green that slants left to right like a wayward chalkboard. No. 18, a 446-yard par-4, places both a stream and big fairway bunkers right in the straightest path to the green.
"The fairways are generous and the bunkering style is bold," Faldo said. "And the greens have plenty of subtle undulations that reward and encourage a variety of approach shots."

Beautiful resort Photo submitted by MagecD on 10/08/2012
Great layout
Really impressed with locations of bunkers around the course, makes you think about where to miss properly every shot.
Expectations Not Met
I might have had unreasonable expectations for this course that has a $200+ green fee and being on a Marriott resort. It just didn’t match up to that rate. It is worth the experience but I think you can do better elsewhere with your $200.
A little slow.
Play was a little slow. Course was full but didn’t help that the group in front of us would wait for
the green to clear before hitting and they weren’t big hitters. Greens were fast but several were a little beat up.
Played the course several times over the years and it’s always been faster and in better ahap
Nice course
Great conditions and nice layout. Only negative was the unfixed ball marks on greens. Played in 4.5 hrs. Worth it if get a hot deal around $120. Prefer a course with more mountain views vs condos.
Dad and Son
Played in the afternoon. Course was in excellent condition. Greens were still pretty fast. A lot of ball marks that had not been repaired. Spent time fixing them since the pace of play was pretty slow. Liked the course layout. Each hole is separated from others. So you don’t see the other golfers on other holes. Cart gal was friendly and visited us frequently. Bunkers were in good shape.
Nice course, great staff, crappy play
Greens were smashed up and seemed like no one was repairing ball marks. Had two extremely slow groups with no marshal to ask either group to skip a hole. Round of two took over 4 hours. Was tough to sit sometimes 15-20 between shots. Really breaks the flow of play and takes your mind out of it. Staff was great at feeling sorry for the experience but no one in the clubhouse was willing to offer credits or partial refunds. They claim they wont do that as the course pace is 4.5-5hours which is crazy. Second time playing and similar problems both times. Too bad because the course is beautiful.
Beautiful course
Very tough course, but as always, pristine. The staff is great, always caring. No negative point.
Beautiful course!
We really enjoyed playing Shadow Ridge, we were lucky to be paired up with 2 locals who helped us navigate the course. The price I listed was for 2 players. It can be a challenging course with some very large and well placed bunkers that have you planning your game. I didn't mind that though as there are few blind areas so you can see what you're getting in most fairways. It's definitely walkable although we were on a cart this time, it was an early morning start for us so it was cold but we were in shorts by the end. I'd come back!
