Ranch
The ranch is a challenging course but fun course to play. Great views of the Bay Area. Greens are decent. Every hole will challenge you mentally. Will play again.
Challenging
Course very challenging course management is. Greens could be be in better condition a lot of bare spots. Piece of play was great was really empty when I went there. Course layout is very long so nice drive downtown San Jose and the Bay Area from the top of the hill. All in all it was worth 26 bucks
The course is in pretty good condition now.
The greens and fairways are in pretty good condition now.
Tough course will make you quit golf
This course is very challenging with narrow slanted fairways and punishing rough it will make you want to quit the game. Ha ha ha just kidding. You will need some local knowledge to learn how to play this course. Keeping the ball in play is half the battle. Play the white tees before venturing out. Par is good in several holes so quit gambling and you will be rewarded accordingly. Avoid spending too much time looking for your ball in the rough to keep pace and not get bit by snakes.
Great layout, but needs maintenance
Great views of San Jose and beyond all throughout the course. With the views comes challenging holes both uphill and down. The course was in OK shape, certain holes could use help. On 7 the hole was cut right on the ridge or the green, either the ball went in or dropped to the lower level 35 feet away. The fairways could use water through the whole course. 16 had several holes cut in to it that did not get repaired and blocked puts. Tough course for the average golfer.
A difficult course and no place to warm up.
Beautiful course, but you have to go from target to target. Some holes were silly... A par three @ 67 yards?
Too bad
I used to like playing here despite how hard it is but our recent round was quite terrible. The course is in really bad shape, as if they have just given up. The tee boxes are overgrown , not flat, the bunkers have minimal sand and weeds and greens are quite bad. The pro-shop is almost devoid of merchandise and there is really no food or beverage service. This course used to be a bit of a novelty given the difficulty and design but sadly I will not be going back. Looks to me like they are getting ready to close up shop!
Challenging and rewarding experience
I played here on a Friday noon and was happy to be given a chance to play early in front of a slow foursome. The course was pretty open and allowed me to play in less than 4 hours. It was a hot day and this course offered plenty of challenges. "Had enough?" from a voice in the air would come and go. Plenty of scenic holes and the course rewards you each time you put your ball on the rough you look for it and come out with 3! Good luck!
Poor Amenities and hours
Course has gone down hill (no pun intended) Due to lack of golf cart maintenance they are limited to amount of carts available (this is a no walking course)
and because of this last tee time is 1pm. At 1pm the club house closes.
No food/beverage cart services. If you want refreshments buy before round or else you'll need to cut over after the 11th and drive back to bar area. That closes at 3pm now. No restroom available either after 3/4pm. everything is locked up.
We had a cart break down after 11th so we had to push cart back to cart barn and pound on door for them to finally open and replace it.
Feels as though they plan on closing and build more homes on that property. Fairways and course condition not great now, not what it was.
Too many "clear canyon" tee shots. Lost a couple of balls that were hit well .... kinda penalized for a good shot. Too many areas that should have been under repair. Superintendent needs to walk the course and look critically at each hole. Bunkers need sand but thats every course in central CA
They should be ashamed..........
Anybody who has played or heard about "The Ranch" knows it is a difficult course. The level of difficulty was not surprising. The shape of the tee boxes was terrible and the sand traps were even worse. The carts barely made it through the round and the ONLY positive aspect of the round was the Pro Shop gentleman/starter who was outstanding.
We as golfers can accept a tough course. What we don't accept is a course that should be in much better shape than the Ranch is. They should be ashamed..........
Prepare more used balls
It is very easy to lose balls. Prepare more used balls. There are some short cuts and tricks. Study first. :)
Tough course
This course will give the 5-20 handicappers a great challenge. Tight fairways and absolutely beautiful views from all holes.
