River Crossing Golf Club

About
River Crossing Golf Club is a private course offering 18 holes of championship golf nestled in the serene beauty of the Texas Hill Country, less than 20 minutes from San Antonio. Players at River Crossing enjoy panoramic views in a quiet, country setting.
Most fairways at River Crossing Golf Club are lined with trees and not as open as they might appear. The golf course has plenty of water including one island type green. River Crossing G.C. has lots of elevations with some slope on fairways. The greens are generally large and the tiffgrass provides plenty of speed. This golf course is attracting lots of local tournaments and that's a good indicator of how well area golfers like it. If you get a chance to play golf at River Crossing, do so.

18th at River Crossing Photo submitted by Robert9887468 on 03/17/2013
February 2018
First thing you need to know is these folks are about to go Private. I do not remember when, couple of high rollers from Corderilla bought. We rolled up about 8:30 a.m thinking we could get breakfast and the Pro tells us to try the McDonalds near teh entrance. This is not starting well, snack bar was open by the time we made the turn. Long story long the golf course starts out fairly benign 1, 2 before getting narrower half way down 3.17 & 18 are relatively easy finishing holes. Not a course you want to walk. Quarter mile between nine green & ten tee. I was a guest so no clue to the green fees, personally I like Vaaler Creek near Blanco better. But hey! that's just me...
Not A Good Walk Spoiled
While it's a bit of drive for me, it's a nice escape. The weather somewhat cooperated with sun and warm temps, but it also brought a steady 15mph N/NW with plenty of gusts which made things laughable at times. Range balls were included as well as cart, but I chose to walk today. The practice area offers a grass tee, plenty of targets and the range balls are decent. The putting green is large and the speed and conditions matched that of the course.
Everyone on the staff I encountered was very friendly and cordial. The starter got me off the first tee right on time and provided the day's pin sheet.
The first three holes are fairly open, and offer a little forgiveness, but after that things start to tighten up and accuracy becomes key. The fairways are tightly mown, bordered by somewhat dense rough and beyond that trees and tall grass come into play quickly, The bunkers had plenty of sand and quite playable. The greens are undulating, receptive, rolled true & smooth, but slower than what I have come to expect. Not such a bad thing as the wind would really come in to play if they were at their usual speed.
Pace of play was solid, finishing up in 3h49m. We had a few brief waits, but never were waited on. The layout is solid and presents a fair challenge, combine it with the consistent excellent conditioning make it an enjoyable play . I look forward to my next visit here.
Club Championship Weekend...Club Championship Setup
In my search to find a back 18 for a buddies weekend trip coming up, RCGC was in the area so I easily booked a mid-day time through their website. Outside services got me set up on a Club Cart cart and a gave me a detailed lay of the land. There is no GPS, but pin sheets provided and a rangefinder is more than enough to get you around. If you're looking to add another logoed shirt or hat the pro shop is loaded with gear. The staff was cordial and gave me the same details as outside services. It's a grass range that was in good shape with decent range balls and a good assortment of targets. The practice green is huge and performs consistent with the greens on the course both in putting and chipping.
A quick stop at the snack shack to hit up the ice machine and I'm off to the first tee. For the most part course is straightforward, yet there a couple holes with blind tee shots, but the fairways are generous enough to handle a slightly off line shot. Houses are set back enough that they don't come into play, rather trees line most and create a nice separation and isolated feel when playing. This is the hill country, so of course there's elevation changes to factor in and some good views to boot.
This weekend was the club championship and the course was primped and ready to make it a grindfest. The fairways and areas around the green were tightly mown. While the rough was mown as well it still presented a challenge depending on your lie as it was dense but at least you could find your ball in it. The pin positions were a perfect mix of very tucked and somewhat accessible. The greens were very firm and rolled extremely well with excellent speed. The pace where you can land shots and let the ball feed towards the hole and the firmness where you take a few off the number to protect against that first bounce. A real treat.
Bottomline, for a place that gets so little chatter on internet message boards of where to play in SA , RCGC is right there with the resort courses and must plays. I look forward to getting back.
Great course, range and restaurant
Greens are consistently the best in town so someone knows what they are doing. Equal to TPC Oaks at Texas Open time and better the rest of the year. Range is a hidden gem. Few practice facilities in town of this quality. Greens have subtle breaks and make this course harder than you think
Very enjoyable course.
Most of the holes are set back in the trees which was good considering the way the wind was blowing. Only 4 or 5 holes are exposed to the wind. Also liked the fact that there were very few houses lining the fairways which also meant very little out of bounds. We played the 3rd set of tees, about 6000 yds which was just right for us seniors. Ready to go back next time they have a special on golfnow .
Great deal!
The course was great. I got an awesome deal on GolfNow. I will be back again.
Rivercrossing is a hidden asset for golfers wanting to escape to the Texas hill Country.
I was amazed at the scenic quality offered at Rivercrossing , it is a gem of a course . There are challenges on every hole and shotmakers will welcome the chance to play without the grind of needing long drives on every par four and five. The course suprintendent has it in excellent shape for a Texas July. There are few courses that I would like to play everyday , Rivercrossing is one of them.
Good for the Golfnow Value
Course is very friendly. Wide fairways, big greens. Would visit again on Golf now price.
Nice Course, Slow Play
I played this course several times and it has always been very slow pace, I've never seen a Marshall do anything about it. It's like the members on this course feel like they own it and outsiders that book thru Golfnow are not important and just have to wait on them. It's a nice course If you are patient enough to wait 10 to 15 min. at every tee box. Green are fast and challenging.
This course was well maintained and greens were good.
This course has a good combination of short, medium and long holes. It requires good shot placement off the tee on most. Pace of play was slow but they did have marshalls out trying to help. Very good range and practice green.
This is a very fun course to play
If you are looking for a well maintained course that is challenging but has some short par 4s, then River Crossing is a great choice.
Awesome course!! Loved it!!
The layout of the course was very nice and every area was perfect. The driving range was well maintained and stocked with balls. The tee boxes, fairways and greens were in perfect condition. I can't wait to play it again. The pro shop was well stocked, neat and the staff very professional, friendly and courteous. The men's locker was immaculate.
The Troll in the Pro Shop
We were treated with disrespect by the pro shop employee because we used Golf Now and asked to tee off early.
The #1 tee was wide open but this employee said he did not like Golf Now, and he wanted us to pay a regular green fee to tee off earlier.
He acted as if we were taking advantage of his golf course.
When I let him know that we had not ever experienced such an attitude before with Golf Now, and that just about every other golf course would not try to pull this on a customer, he reluctantly agreed to give us a tee time in an hour.
The temperature was 98 and the heat index well over 100 degrees yesterday. Fortunately the starter let us tee off immediately.
The course is in great shape with smooth greens and well cut fairways. The holes are well laid out and challenging. There's lots of water and bunkers galore.
Tee boxes are well defined and there are five different
tees to choose from.
The Marshall was not very efficient. Pace of play was slow
because the group in front of us played Army golf and were searching for balls on every hole.
This would be a four star operation if the pro shop had a decent employee, and the pace of play was enforced.
There was no beverage cart on a very hot day.
Fantastic Course!
Fairways were unbelievable, challengers bunkers, greens were excellent and views were great. Houses on this course are also really nice, great area, and at times you can see Twin Sisters in the distant, locals know about twin sisters.
Good Course
Course has some good holes requiring precision off of the tee. Par 3s have some length but 4s & 5s are relatively short.
Great Course and Awesome Value.
Great Course. Friendly Staff and wonderful facilities. Looking forward to my next round. A must Play ! Worth the drive. A+
good condition
course was in great condition....fairways grass in great shape. Greens rolled true.
Hill Country Course
Course is short but fairy open. Fairway and Greens were all in great shape when I played. Definately worth the drive from Austin.
Good Play
Despite heavy rains two days before, the course was dry for the most part and played well with no problems. Had a great time and moved along at a good pace. Greens were in excellent condition!
Thanks for your review, GS! We appreciate such a detailed and articulate overview of your experience with us. We're looking forward to your next round with us, too!
