Sequoyah National Golf Club

About
Nestled in the heart of the Great Smoky Mountains, Sequoyah National Golf Club is surrounded by mature oak and fir trees. Owned by the Eastern Band of Cherokee, the course is routed through flowered valleys that provide a colorful complement to the surrounding mountain views. It feels peacefully secluded but it is conveniently located less than an hour from Asheville. Robert Trent Jones Jr. designed the layout. The rolling terrain guarantees a range of different elevation changes but there are also some flat holes. The golf course is a tough test, offering several forced carries over water and severe dogleg fairways. The sloped greens are no easy feat either. Proper club selection and accurate approach shots will be generously rewarded. Sequoyah National also offers an expansive practice area with a driving range and putting and chipping greens.

Very difficult course to play the first time
The course was in decent shape for the time of year. It is a very picturesque course lots of beautiful views. Most holes are very hilly with slanted fairways or narrow fairways. Playing this course for the first time did not know where to play my shots, lost lots of balls. I got a great deal through golfnow, I would not pay full price to play this course. The person who checked us in could have been a little friendlier. He wasn't rude just when you are dealing with the public and I told him it was our first time golfing he could have put an effort out to make us feel welcome.
Great views
Incredible cart path elevation changes, making for amazing mountain views although the course itself is relatively flat. Severe doglegs make for difficult sight lines if you’ve not played there before. Several greens are too severe, easy to putt off the green. General condition was very good for early in the season.
Altitude
Very scenic. While the cart paths are incredibly steep the actual course is relatively flat except for several spectacular elevation changes. Early in the season but the course was generally in very good condition. Staff was great.
Must play in western NC
Carved thru unspoiled Carolina mountains. Beautiful views and dramatic elevation changes. Greens have deep undulations and mediocre shots are punished. Challenging course that require accuracy off the tee and into the greens. Well maintained. A must play in western NC.
Great course, horrible pace of play
Love the course and the layout, great amenities. But the pace of play was horrible, we had a 2:10pm tee off and didn't tee off until 2:40. Over 5 hours to finish, almost didnt get all 18 in.
Disappointed the greens had been aerated but still charged full price
Disappointment that we were not told the greens were aeriated and no deduction in greenfee apart from that it was another fine day out on the course -
Pace of play
Amazing layout, wished golfnow indicated that the greens were being punched. The pace was a slow death. Beginners should not be allowed. I ended up quitting after 15 holes it was so slow. The golf course is truly amazing if you have the patience for a 5 plus hour round
Great experience during spring-break
Even though the greens were just aerated, which we knew, it was a great experience.
Staff very hospitable and accommodating.
Played with my college aged son and his buddy on their spring break and I had a memorable round
Second round here
2nd round here helped knowing where I need to hit. Loved as much as the first time. A challenge with every hole having its own character and beauty. Will be back soon
Amazing course
Sequoyah National GC remains my favorite course within an hour drive of Waynesville, NC. Sweeping vistas await you on almost every hole. Generous fairways of dormant grass, but it still gave us beautiful lies in the fairway. Very large greens deceivingly hard. Shorter holes give you diabolical greens with only about 6 that are straight forward. Others have skinny shelves & up to 3 levels on some greens. What a challenge! Bring extra balls, because if you fall off the wide fairway, you ball will probably be on a steep hill & in thorns. Still, this course has incredible beauty! Don't miss it!
