Awful Staff
Worst on course staff I have ever dealt with. We literally got harassed starting on #4 all the way until #9. The ranger actually followed us on every hole for 5 holes and even stood on some tees with us in an attempt to push us to play faster. Keep in mind we had a senior who is a military veteran and junior in our foursome and it was cart path only when it did not need to be. Then to top it all off the arrogant jerk starter had to stop us at the turn and tell us to skip #10. All because we were 15 minutes behind there 4:20 pace of play demands. Course is overpriced and not in the best shape yet they treat you like you are at Pebble Beach or the like. Perhaps they should remember they are a public course in Fort Mill , SC. Layout is average at best. Conditions are not great. Dormant bermuda fairways and hairy greens filled with old holes and ball marks. Bunkers are not maintained well. Never had in experience like this in my 30+ years of golfing way nicer places. My advice is to avoid this snooty overpriced course at all costs.
Still unimpressed, but…..
This course has never left a great impression on me but I tried again to see if I could come to appreciate it. I made some strides in that direction..The greens are in great shape and the course is a good value every time out. Almost every one of these Bermuda greens is elevated and sloped or crowned. So they can be very tricky to hold and to putt when they are slick. The dormant Bermuda fairways make this course play hard and fast. With all of the slopes and elevation changes, your ball can bounce or roll out of play quickly. That can be very frustrating and make the course play very difficult at times. Several holes play severely uphill, making them play very long.
So, from a layout perspective, this course is very challenging. From a conditions perspective, outside of the near-perfect greens, the tees, fairways and rough were just okay. The course is using the Cart Path Only rule until May.
The rate was only $40 for a weekday afternoon and that felt like a good value.
My primary reason for not ranking Springfield higher is that there are very few memorable holes. The long dogleg left par 4 No. 9 is probably the signature hole. I would rate Springfield as one of the better but not best public courses in the area. The price puts it in the value half of the courses in the area. With very good greens, Springfield is definitely worth playing.
Elevated Greens Challenge Club Selection
Played here while visiting for Presidents Cup at QH.
Lots of elevated greens will challenge your club selection - I now believe the theory that downhill shots do not need as much distance adjustment as uphill ones. They allow walking on this course however it's not the most walker friendly as lots of elevation changes, and where you need to stay on the cart path even with your push cart anyway. A few tee boxes that are a bit of a hike from last green. I would not walk this on a crowded weekend to respect pace of play no matter how brisk you walk. Nice layout, good course conditions, fast and sloped greens, friendly staff for first-timers - even asked if I ever played here before. Similar in some ways to Fort Mill Golf Club layout. I would play here again if in Charlotte area.
Snack bar
Lady in the snack bar needed more training.. waited forever for her to figure up a 6 pack of beer. People went ahead of us on the tee.
Great experience
The course was fun to play and has many challenging holes. It has a few target golf par 4s that are interesting. The course uses the hilly terrain in the design that
many approach shots are to elevated green. I will return.
Springfield
Course in great shape; greens fast and putting green was consistent with course greens. If you can play 7, 8 & 9 at even par, you will likely have a good round. Once aeration holes are completely smooth, STAY BELOW THE HOLE!!
Tournaments on a Saturday?
Love this course. Greens are about as good as you’ll find on a public track in Charlotte. But we had a 1:40 tee time, front nine was over 3 hours because they had a tournament in the am. That’s brutal for what they charge.

Where on earth was the marshall to get the play speeded up
Outstanding golf club
The golf course was in excellent condition. Although the greens were a little slow.
The staff was very friendly. Definitely would love to come back here. Also I would recommend to anyone visiting the Charlotte, NC area.
