Nice Layout (mostly)
The course was in great shape. Greens were very slow however. There are some odd holes but mostly a good design (less goofy than Tobacco Road). Somehow there was a 5-some in front of us that would not let a 2-some through. No ranger on the course
Does not disappoint
This place is legitimate, from the quaint buildings to a friendly staff. The Course is breathtaking beautiful. The layout is fantastic and fair. Depending on what tees you play from you will need to look closely for the following hole tee box as the markers and elevation make it a bit tricky to locate. A must play and will put this course on the yearly rotation.
Unique Course
What an experience. From the friendly, helpful staff to the jaw dropping architecture of the course this is a must visit. We were fortunate that the rain held off and we could experience each hole. We appreciate the attention to detail this course provides. The staff went above and beyond to provide an incredible experience. They’re very knowledgeable and you can tell they love and appreciate this course. Do yourself a favor and check out this course.
Fun course, enjoyed it....only thing that would have been nice was a water cooler a few times on the course.
Love this Restored Strantz Course
After the restoration, THF is back to being a must play course. Course has everything uoj would expect from Strantz: wild greens, blind shots, great use of land and unique hazards (rocks and more rocks).
One of my favorite NC courses.
Great challenging course
Very challenging and beautiful scenery. Greens are somewhat slow, but because the course and greens are challenging any faster could lead to a very long round.
Amazing course, super low play
This course is everything you’d expect from Mike Strantz. Blind shots, massive undulations and loads of fun. Too many memorable holes to mention. Course conditions are great too. Never played before the restoration but the zoysia putting greens roll great. The only hiccup was pace of play. We teed off at 10:45 and didn’t finish until 4:30. Unacceptable! We were stuck behind a group of 20+ slowpoke Ryder Cup wannabes all day long. One of them was urinating in the parking lot as I was driving away.
Just-in-time revival of Strantz’s ‘other’ N.C. design is a revelation
For many golfers, the public courses of Mike Strantz – two each in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia – are a bracing introduction to the creative possibilities of golf course architecture. The most eccentric of these is Tobacco Road, whose love-it-or-hate-it reputation makes for entertaining 19th-Hole debate. About 50 minutes northwest, Tot Hill Farm has flown under the radar in large part because it struggled with conditioning and limited resources. That all changed when the course came under new ownership, and its 2023 restoration has given it more promise than it had even on its original opening day.
Key to that revival was the removal of 1,500 trees, which have given the holes – and their turf valuable room to breathe and sunlight in which to do it. New zoysia grass on the greens will mature and improve each year. The course finally has a clubhouse, a restored 19th-century farmhouse that is a great hangout spot and compliments the course beautifully. In the wake of this home-run of a project, Tot Hill Farm’s best days are yet to come.
Put a lot of money to make it in great shape!!
The course is in great shape and feels like a country Pinehurst with challenging holes and beautiful greens and fairways. It’s worth it for a golf treat for yourself. They obviously spent a lot of money to upgrade the course and facilities. It’s plush!!!
An Absolute Gem!
I love GC design and nothing gets me going more than a Stranz. The course has gone to great lengths to get this place back to it's intended prestige and artful design. The course is great all around. The clubhouse is really well done and could use a restaurant/grill but they had some ready made BBQ sandwiches that hit the spot! The staff is as friendly of a course staff i have ever came across, everyone was excited for us to play like they were proud of their product. The greens were just converted so speed wasn't superfast but they were in great shape and rolled pretty true. I could go on and on about the design but it must be played to understand.
Most overpriced golf course I've ever played.
$135 to play the course is ludicrous.
I played the track for the first 10 years it was open in the early 2000's..
At that time it was very reasonably priced, albeit difficult to play.
It has recently been rebuilt with new greens and updated traps and a few more niceties.
Along with the new ownership has come a tripling in greens fees.
This is Randolph NC not Myrtle beach of a golfing resort. The fees are commensurate with a luxurious resort course and they are quite laughable.
They have priced the track out of reach for the average working stiff and we seniors.
At the current prices this course will never fly and I for one hope it does not!
Puzzled in N.C........................Hdcp. 8, from the seniors, age 79 and still rabid for golf, mostly 9 holes 3-4 times a week.
Great Course is Great Again!
This Mike Strantz gem of a course has had some tough times but it is now back in pristine condition. The new owner has installed new turf on the greens and the entire course is now very lush. The greens run a little slow because of the newness but are smooth and healthy. They should get progressively faster in the months ahead. The holes are unique, interesting and beautiful. Typical Strantz greatness. They are more visually challenging than they play as Strantz wants the golfer to think before hitting. Most holes that appear to be narrow or difficult have alternate routes that get you to the green with less stress. The most difficult challenge for most golfers might be the number of uneven lies you will experience on this rolling layout. Come for the experience but do not let your score the first time around spoil the fun.
Has potential
Rolling hills with rocky outcrops. Challenging elevation changes. The new owner said the green will be overhauled in three weeks. Grounds maintenance was on the course during play.
Not Now
Great layout but they are transitioning to new geeens and doing a lot of work around the entire course
I would wait to play and hope rates aren’t outrageous when they reopen I’m excited for the reopening
I am upset they took down the tree on the left on 12 by water / fairway left edge but most other changes seem good
Making lots of changes. Getting ready to close till September because of greens conversion
It’s a tough course
They are going to close may 14 . Getting new Bermuda greeens , opening back up Labor Day
Excellent Value!
I wasn't sure what to expect with Tot Hill Farms... reviews on GolfNow were all over the map, but I decided I should play Tot Hill before they renovate to see the before and compare to the after, for a $36 hot deal it was a no brainer.
The design itself is an amazing Strantz layout, it honestly could be a better layout than Tobacco Road (my opinion). The conditions were not perfect, some tee boxes were struggling but the greens and the rest of the course were in awesome shape! I think the greens rolled a 9 or 10 and if you were above the hole you were dead.
Do yourself a favor and play it before they close in May to Renovate, guy in the proshop said they were hoping to be back open in September.
$74 definitely not worth the money
Played today with friends. Could not believe we paid $74 to play this course. The layout is really good, but it ends there. The cart paths are torn up everywhere, many are just rocks. There are trees cut down all over the place. The greens are in ok shape, but many of them are not that great. Bunkers are completely torn up, I guess they are replacing them. No signage anywhere for tees, holes or directions.
There was 1 guy working in the pro shop. He was collecting for greens fees and also getting food. What the heck is going on here? Maybe 25 people playing here as the cost to play is definitely not worth the experience. Now I know why no one was out there today, it's not worth it.
We were told changes were coming, so why are they charging so much for a course in disarray? So if you are considering playing the course, go somewhere else. I would be embarrassed as the owners to charge this much. The course is not worth the price to play.
If you want alcohol, bring your own as they dont serve it. Good luck finding a trash can on the golf course. I had a turkey and cheese sandwich at the turn, what a joke, worst ive ever had a golf course.. Come on people...if this is all you have to offer, charge $30 per person or shut it down now.
Mike Strantz is rolling over in his grave seeing how this place is run. Good luck to the new owners who are supposedly doubling the greens fees. They have a lot of work to do to make this a $50 golf course, much less a $74 course. Greens are fun and entertaining, but don't waste your time here.
