Golden Golf Club

About
Nestled in the Columbia Valley, Golden Golf Club is bordered on both sides by the Canadian Rockies and Purcell Mountains. The area is brimming with wildlife, which means players often share the course with eagles, osprey, coyotes, deer, and even the occasional black bear. The golf course was originally opened as a nine-hole layout in 1986 before the second nine was added. Despite being built ten years apart, the two nines blend seamlessly to create a challenging 18-hole course. Creeks meander through the golf course, coming into play on a few holes, and several holes are routed along the shore of the Columbia River. Golden Golf Club's signature hole is the par-4 11th. The tee from this hole overlooks Holt Creek, which you will have to clear in order to reach the tree-lined fairway.

Golden Golf Club
The town of Golden is located at the confluence of the Columbia and Kicking Horse Rivers and just a few minutes north of town you will find the Golden Golf Course. Views of the surrounding Purcell and Rocky Mountains can be had from everywhere on the course. This is a parkland style 18-hole course that plays to a par 72 and with three tees (Gold, White, Red) available on each hole the yardages vary from 5,488 yards from the Reds, 6,326 yards from the Whites and maxes out at 6,825 yards from the Gold tees.
This mid morning round was accompanied by blue skies, plenty of sunshine and above average fall temperatures. Not having golfed here for probably twenty some years, the starter had me tee it up with three members who provided entertaining company and some welcome local knowledge of the course.
In 1996, with the help of Les Furber, the course was expanded to its current 18-hole layout from the original 9-hole course designed by Bill Newis in 1986. Wide fairways were masterfully cut through a well developed forest that runs alongside the Columbia River. The course opens with a gentle dogleg left, par 4 that reaches out 360 yards to a relatively generous, flat green that is sandwiched nicely between two bunkers. Hole 2 is a delight as it allows you to grip it and rip it from a slightly elevated platform to a wide ribbon of green fairway. The holes seamlessly follow each other and will have you consistently planning and plotting your way around the course. It's always nice when a golf course lets you make use of all the clubs in the bag. The placement of the 45 bunkers on the course are more than aesthetic as they have been strategically placed to catch any number of missed shots. Hole 11, a terrific 378 yard, par 4, has long been considered their signature hole with Holt Creek running along the right side of the hole and then crosses the front of a very testing, undulated green. As the three members I was golfing with me commented that par is a good score any day of the week on this hole, so my birdie here was an added bonus. Hole 11 has features reminiscent of Hole 10 at The Brabazon Golf Course at The Belfry.
The greens and greens complexes are wonderfully thought out. They are of varying sizes and shapes and all have slopes and swales that will test your putting skills. They are receptive to good approach shots, rolled smoothly and speeds were consistent throughout the entire course. Finding eight fairways and ten greens in regulation had me finish at two under my handicap for the round. Scoring well is possible as the course will certainly reward good course management and good ball striking.
A full service restaurant and a well appointed pro shop are staffed by friendly faces. The course is a fitting test of golf with its natural and man made hazards, exceptional course conditioning and fairways that turn in every direction. The course takes full advantage of the glorious countryside to provide a world-class challenge for all level of golfers. Its many attributes can invariably bring out the very best in your game.

Great Hidden Gen
We had heard about this course from friends and finally were able to play a round there. The setting is beautiful. The course was in excellent condition and provided just the right amount of challenge. Staff were very pleasant and helpful. We will definitely be back....and soon!
Our foursome really enjoyed the afternoon. The course was in excellent shape and the scenery fantastic. We felt like we were the only people on the course because of the layout . Whenever we come to this area we always make sure to include a game at your course .
Try it, you'll love it
Played this course multiple times, however every time I play here, it is always a treat. For those golfers who love scenery and the challenge of a great layout, give it a try. This is by far the best dollar value in the Columbia Valley.
Truly Golden
Course was in excellent shape, walked two rounds both were under 4 hours, staff were very pleasant.
Club Pro
I had brought my 7 yr old son with me and I was normally not charged for him but this time the club pro told me he pays full junior price before 4pm. I had said this is his 1st year golfing and he only shoots a few times and never when the pace is hurried and he said that the other staff should have charged him on the previous occasions I played before. I was just a little take back by this bc I play golf all over Canada and the U.S. and would never cheat the system, and when my some is ready in 2 years or so , to play full rounds I will pay full price for him. Golden club pro needs to work a little with people bc, also on this day it was light rain and there were barely any people out there. Oh well, best I can hope is he reads this and is a little more lenient next time with kids that are just learning the sport. Thanks
Beautiful, well conditioned course
Played Golden while driving through the Rockies. Very friendly staff, incredible views, perfect greens. Will definitely return again.
Classic Mountain Gem
Beautiful example of Les Furber's mountain architecture. Thoughtful, gimmick-free layout with just the right mix of challenge and playability. I love playing this course and look forward to coming back again.
Great course
This is one of the most beautiful courses I have played and it is in outstanding condition - especially for early season. Every hole is interesting and secluded.
Dry nice course
I have always enjoyed golfing Golden golf course. It's always been one of my favourite courses to play and golf it every time we vacation in Radium Hot Springs! It's only an hour drive away.
Gem in the mountains
One of our favorite courses anywhere. Beautiful. Quiet. Plays fair but challenging. A true gem.
Great Day
Course was in excellent shape, carts were like new, and there was only one hole that we held people, despite being "duffers ", and we were never held up !
Most enjoyable afternoon on a lovely course ! Thanks "Hot Deals" !

Great Mountain Course
Just an excellent mountain course with all amenities. I would rank it equal or better then many of the higher priced courses in the area. Hopefully it remains that way.
Must stop
Our golf group has stopped at this wonderful Rocky Mountain hidden gem the first weekend of June for 25 consecutive years now. Wonderful people and just down home relaxing atmosphere! Must play for any level of golfer!
Don't pass this one bye
Great place to play and stay,we loved the course layout, beautiful views on every hole. The only issue we had was a few of the massive greens had some winter kill from the deer passing through.and the putted a little slow from what I am use to.
Well kept
large undulating greens, fair course, spectacular scenery, In great shape.
Bring mosquito repellent.
Will play again next time we are near Golden.
