Great views
Great views, but way to many blind shots,to many side, downhill or uphill lies, which we navigated pretty well, until we were 100 yards or less in,the greens didn't hold even 60° wedge without rolling off the green, greens were way way to fast, especially seeing hardly any greens were flat, every green sloped away, and when you did have a putt there was no way of coming close unless it was center cup
Simply a pleasure
The course is a delight. Fairways are superb, only hampered by a little too much rain. Greens are a treat to put on and the sand traps were consistent and well maintained.
The course was in good shape, the greens fast especially down hill .PACE OF PLAY SLOW,but weather was hot.Would play again and recommend playing.
Awesome course.
This is a fun course. Pace of play was slow and I felt a quick trip by a ranger could have sped some slower groups along. Practice areas and tavern are great. Layout is cool and course is in great shape. Book with confidence that you will be in for a great day.
The Phoenix rises from the ashes
I’ve been waiting to play this course for a few years. Was gonna play last year and saw the drought issue from the highway. Read the reviews and it was worse than I thought. With all the rain this last month and the improving reviews, I took a gamble and drove up from just north of Boston. Very happy that I did. Extremely fair and challenging course with an amazing layout and a variety of holes. Greens were lightning and in fantastic shape. The views and overall conditions were above average. There were maybe 1 or 2 fairways that had minor issues. Overall, looks like this course is back from last years drought. I can’t wait to play again this fall when the leaves start to change. Don’t go by last years reviews if you’re on the fence about trying this course. The improving reviews were the only reason I took the gamble today, and I think the reviews will continue to improve once people visit and see that they are trying and improving
I. Love. This. Course
If you're a golfer in NH or visiting the Concord/Lakes region part of NH- you can't do much better then Canterbury Woods.
From the tee boxes to the sand traps to the greens- course maintenance is exceptional. Not to mention beautiful views of the mountains and surrounding farm land, It is really a treat to play here.
Tee shots are inviting- greens are firm and fast.
The layout is unique and receptive to players of all skill levels!
Only criticism would be that they don't include range balls with your round- but besides that, love this place!
The course is in great shape!
Course conditions and layout were fantastic. Pace of play was very slow, but still a great day at a fun course.
Bring extra balls
This is a beautiful woodland course with dramatic elevation changes from many tee boxes. Sloping fairways and challenging wetlands add to the need to accurately place all shots.
Very SLOW play
We have played at Canterbury Woods for years and we have NEVER had such slow play.
Not very good
The fairways are in bad shape still not recovered from last year’s drought
Tee boxes and greens are ok but some rough spots
It took 5 1/2 hours to play 4 groups backed up on hole #10 and no rangers in sight.
Fun Layout
I always enjoy a round at Canterbury Woods. I think the layout is excellent. There are some really good holes! Played the tips for the first time and it made it a different course coming in on second shots. Conditions were decent. Greens and tee boxes are excellent but some of the fairways need some work, which you can tell they are already in the process of working on them.
Great course great value
Course is still " filling in from winter," greens were in great shape, most of the fairways were in very good shape, those that needed work were being attended to. Layout is challenging without being " Unplayable" for your average occasional "hacker" such as myself. Overall a very good course for the price.
Conditions Appear to be Improving
*NOTE: my rating of course conditions does not account for current green aerification which was just done 4 days ago*
I had meant to play Canterbury Woods last year when I moved back to NH but the view of the 12th hole from the interstate was appalling. After reading another review on this site noting that the course had water access issues and has been focusing on the more crucial parts of the course I decided it would be worth my time to come check it out, especially since (from afar) things appeared to have greened up a bit.
Indeed, there is more green grass growing in all the fairways now but you're more likely than not to get an uneven lie if you drive it in the fairway so I recommend giving yourself a realistic lie on each hole.
True to reports, the greens and tee boxes look and play much better and the bunkers are in fantastic shape. But there are plenty of courses in the area and other parts of the state that have better conditions overall so I hope things continue to improve here.
The layout here is a highlight with fantastic elevation changes (walk 18 here at your own risk) and dynamic design that make the round far more enjoyable than it otherwise would be. My only complaint is that there are many holes with blind landing zones for your tee shots and no bells to ring to signal to the group behind that all is clear. This would really help pace of play which suffers a bit because of it.
The staff was friendly enough though I was surprised to see no beverage cart out on a beautiful Friday afternoon, especially with no water coolers on the course.
I paid $45 for my round with a cart due to an aerification special. Not bad, but again I plan to wait until the conditions improve more to come back again. I trust that will be the case.
Don’t waste you time
Course is in terrible shape. It will be another year before this place recovers provided they don’t run out of water again. The only positive is they are trying I know because the sprinklers are on. The downside you can’t play you ball from the fairway without a raincoat. Otherwise the staff is pretty rude and I won’t be going back.
