Riverside Golf Club

About
Riverside Golf Club is appropriately named. The course sits in a floodplain along the Trinity River with water in play on seemingly every hole. This is a combination links-style/traditional layout that is surprisingly difficult for a municipal course. Great holes abound on the Roger Packard layout, which requires the rare combination of length and accuracy when playing from the tips.
Holes 4-6 offer one of the better stretches of golf, starting with a 462-yard par 4 that is cut in the landing area by pesky fairway bunkers, and features a long approach into an elevated green that is surrounded by water and slopes back-to-front. Club down on no. 4 because leaving it short still offers the chance for an up-and-down. No. 5 is a good par 3, especially from the middle tees where it generally plays as a short iron. Watch for the front pin placement, which can leave you with a long downhill putt if the tee shot is too long. Water looms to the right but it takes a bad shank to dunk it in the drink. No. 6 goes 543 yards, doglegging left along the Trinity with water fronting the green. The tee shot must be long and straight, and anything too far right leaves a precarious second shot around the bend.
The back side is the more fun of the two, taking you through good combinations of holes that offer excellent birdie opportunities if you’re on your game. You'll need those birds when you come down the home stretch.

Course needs work
It took us 2 hrs 50 min to play 9 and we almost walked off. Thankfully, got around the slow group but they should have been marshalled. Nothing real special about this course but it is a challenging layout especially when it's windy as it's almost entirely north to south or vice versa. Green need work. Can't recommend it in its current condition
Prices up, quality down
This used to be one of the best bargains in DFW, with great greens (our groups number one priority, next to fast play). Unfortunately the greens, and the whole course has been taken over by weeds. Fairways are so so at best, and some of the tee boxes had been overseeded and the grass was longer than most places rough. Very disappointing, and not worth the elevated weekend rate.
Course conditions need work.
I know this is one of the cheaper courses and it’s good value for DFW but the poa annua coming up on the greens is concerning. The greens used to be better than other courses in the area, but it’s looking rough at the moment. Parts of the fairways are balding as well so iron play is very inconsistent. Finished about 30 minutes behind pace due to some slow player’s getting backed up throughout the afternoon but that is pretty normal.
worse pace of play of any course
the whole course was backed up. always had 2 groups on a tee box and management would not do anything about speeding up the players causing issues. the tee times are too close together. greens are in good shape, sand is full of rocks on some holes, errant shots are always into another group. beware of booking on the weekend
greens are good and coming in
generally if fair conditions. Tee boxes need a lot of work and fairways are seeded and will come in about a month or so
So slow, no range balls, not carts
It was a 6 hour pace on Sunday. They ran out of range balls, ran out of carts. They booked tee times too close together to maximize the cost, and the experience suffers greatly. And their rate stays the same.
Golf Course Slipping
Riverside has always been a great layout; very fun to play but built in the Trinity River flood plain, the course had had it's challenges with erosion. Unfortunately, it would appear as if the maintenance budget at Riverside is eroding as well. The bunkers, which are always in play, are unplayable. The greens which are always fast, were extremely bumpy. They need to be rolled. Fairways are okay, but there are some thin patches which isn't unusual for February. Saturday was a very pretty day so everyone was out playing; the round was slow and there were no Marshalls around to keep things moving. Bottom Line: ARCIS Golf need to invest some money into Riverside to return it to being the course it can be.
Worth the round
Course was challenging, but attribute it to being a bad golfer. But was still fun course to play. There was a bit of a fair way pile up with the layout, tricky when you play like me. But moved on quickly.
Been playing this course since it opened rules you need to know
Took my golf partner and his fiancé to RS for his birthday, they refused to rent us a second cart, the then proceeded to tell us no spectators on the weekend, when we offered to pay for her to play they refused then Said they didn’t have enough carts, although there were 2 rows of carts 6 deep. When we asked to play a later tee time to allow her to go with us, they refused.
Started us on 10 but sent our partner 2 some out 15 mins before us, so we had to travel 2 holes in to bring the other 2 some back to start, after that mismanagement, the marshal chased us down on hole 12 and told us to speed up, even though it was they’re fault we started late.
Course is in the worst condition of any in the dfw area, and no respect for senior golfers, won’t be back to this wasteland until the management changes. Disrespectful at the very least. Embarrassed to to even mention this outing.
Solid course. Greens ran smooth and fast. Few Bare spots in the fairways. Bunkers were hard and looked in rough shape. But fun layout overall and would play again
Great off season round
Good time and nice course. Got paired up with 2 good guys.
Always A Day
First if you’re playing on a weekend you can’t expect to play alone. Course gets packed.. and if you see carts 6 deep it’s for upcoming tee times… carts run off batteries that take a while to charge. Sorry your gf couldn’t see you dribble the ball 150 yards down the fairway. And the guy who brought his dogs… cmon bro!
Anyway.. I try and play here once a week. Always shoot low. Greens never disappoint, (unless punched). I play weekdays so it’s never too crazy… sometimes it gets slow.. if you’re new to golf or have god forbid 6 people playing.. pick up, drop, or let people play through. It is the greatest game but I am sick of seeing people leave bad reviews on these golf courses for their own faults. Hope to see you out there, my name is shanti, go by Sean.. The wonderful lady working behind the counter is always a gem!
Oh!! Pick your tee boxes accordingly.. if you drive it 200-230… please play whites.. it’s ok we won’t laugh at you.. it makes the game faster.. 90% of you are white tee box guys.. you will have a better day for it.
