Excellent Course
Superb course, great condition and friendly staff
Slow, quirky in a bad way
4h 20 for a 2 ball was excruciating which probably taints this review but what a strange place. Started weirdly when walking up to the second tee I got shouted at by people on the 5th tee. Unbeknownst to me I was in direct firing line! Had to move down of the tee whereupon said shouter teed off, a massive snap hook along the line where my head had been. The quirkyness continued, the tees where all 30 yards wide but this hasn’t helped them being in dreadful condition, the par 3s are all too long, as an 8 hcp my partner was hitting driver on all but one! The par 4s are either too short or too long, One long par 4 that dog legs right was particularly impossible. The woman in the half way hut reluctantly served us (we weren’t in the competition we followed) I made up for this inconvenience in free biscuits). At one point saw a young lad wearing football kit playing with his dad, he was taking divots out of the fairway hitting imaginary balls, I love to see kids playing but not in the middle of a member comp on a Saturday on a day where I’ve paid £40 to play. The greens, couldn’t get on with them, felt tricked up to protect the course. Some lads behind us teed off a par 3 we were playing (2 disparate tees made us invisible) They probably thought we’d gone to be fair due to the glacial pace of play) They didn’t apologise but asked us if we had any tees cause they’d run out. Anyway I won’t be back. Try Morley hayes for a championship course or uttoxeter for enjoyable quirkiness instead enjoyed those a whole bunch more on our trip
Excellent
Very pleasant parkland course. Nicely undulating. Great food after. Highly recommended.
Return to Mickleover
First visit back to Mickleover for 40years. Still a great course with a friendly staff and lovely club house. Highly recommend it. Only 15 holes open due to wet ground, but still a very enjoyable round.
Really well kept course
The course it’s self is really challenging the holes may not be long but the hazards and the fact the ground is not flat, make all shots even on the fairway challenging. For someone normally around 90 to shoot 109 shows how challenging this course is. 100% a must play and if I lived closer to the course I would become a member. My only issue was regarding the group behind us as soon as we hit our tee shots and approached our ball they started to tee off which annoyed our 3 ball and on occasions was close to being hit by the ball. Despite speaking up they continued to do this. I was going to raise this to the club however the club shop was closed when we finished our round. This is a message to all golfers really respect the group infront and don’t feel your rushing them. I am sure this group of they was in our position would have just been as aggrieved as us on the day.
Monday golf
Course in good condition after all the rain we had a bit of slow play by the members even stopping to talk to other players while we waiting on the tee . Good value for money
A good days golf
On arrival at the course we went into the pro shop very helpful and gave us a few tips . Which was good as not played the course for about 20 years
The course was in excellent condition and the green was very fast but true . We was a 2 ball playing behind a 3 or wasn’t the fastest of players to be honest. But as we wasn’t in a rush we enjoyed the golf too just over 3.20 mins . And a nice pint in the club house to finish. We will be back
The course has some very good holes, but many were too short so that effects pace of play, but overall I liked the course very much
Well maintained course
Dads/Lads 4 ball match play during twilight.
Have played here before a few times and this is the best condition the course has been in, which is testament to the green keeping staff considering the very dry spell we have had.
Hilly course, with a few blind shots, but helped by markers to give you the line. Greens in great condition, with some tricky contours.
Some long Par 3’s to elevated greens are tough, but some short Par 4’s provide birdie opportunities.
Very nice clubhouse, that was still open when we finished our round at 8.30 pm, so were able to enjoy a pint or two before leaving for home.
Great condition
The course was in fantastic condition with the greens as good as any I’ve played in the area and all the fairways and rough freshly cut with really consistent quality. It is rare to find fairways that are so well kept across the whole course, including practice areas. The course itself was a nice balance of some tough tee shots where accuracy is required and long par 3’s with some more open holes where you can let rip off the tee. Very impressed overall
Not good
Only 12 holes open not told about this on booking only after we paid and turned up no offer of some money back or play any holes again course not in grate condition branch’s on greens no hurry to go back
