American Classic Golf Club

I paid in advance for two players, about 10 days before my trip to Dewey Beach. Big mistake! After looking into the course and reading reviews, I decided I was looking for a more “traditional” golf experience. I called the clubhouse to cancel my tee time and was told that would be no problem and I would be issued a CLUB CREDIT for the fees I paid in advance and they do not issue refunds. Why would I want club credit at a course I have no interest in playing? I’ve never, ever been denied a refund when canceling a tee time, especially 10 days in advance. I could even count on one hand all of the courses I’ve ever had to pay in advance. This place is obviously very desperate. Very poor customer service! I’ll be calling my credit card company to get a refund.

The American Golf Classic course is an executive course that is set up so you can hit every club in your bag. The greens are in the best shape of any in the area. The staff knows what great customer service is and never provide anything but the best. I highly recommend you give it a try.

This course is now The Great American Golf Club and has been significantly reconfigured. Golf Now app is virtually worthless on it. New owners are great and my Garmin works, though.

I found this course by searching nearby golf courses in Lewes, DE on google. This was the first to pop up and I am so happy that it did! Me and my friend were looking for a nice challenge but still fun course to play on this beautiful day. My favorite hole was definitely #6 because its right on the water and was quite the challenge! The staff was so helpful and friendly. They have a full bar and they had a nice selection of beers. We really enjoyed our time at the American Classic!

Great course for those taking the next step from a par 3 course. There are some beginners in our group and this course was challenging for them and interesting enough for the more experienced golfers.

I've played this course about 5 times this summer due to having a house right behind it so it is very convenient on a lazy Sunday morning. It is short (5 par 3's and 4 par 4's) but in great condition. Faster greens, smooth fairways, and excellent tee boxes. I usually walk, which takes about two hours for a 4-some per nine but rode this time because I got a hot deal and it took about 3 hours for a two-some to play 18 (taking a few extra shots on each hole to work on some clubs). Only 3 holes can really use the driver so definitely a good course to work on your irons.

An additional note, the staff is awesome, friendly, and helpful. One of the guys riding around monitoring play even found a ball I had lost in the taller grass and didn't feel like looking for even though I was already on the next hole.

Ty gave us full service at a high level and he was very friendly, helpful, and informative.

This course isn't very challenging, mainly par 3 course, if looking to work on your short game/irons, this will be a good course for that. Most of the par 3s you will only need a PW club.

Found this online as a way to kill time while wife did the outlet shops. For an executive course, this was well maintained, greens were very good, course is challenging with the club selection to some of the greens but overall, a good test for your short game.

Under relatively new ownership and it's clear that the new crew is trying hard to make it wonderful. Fairways are narrow and on the day I played, very hard. Got some bounces off the tee that I would've sworn I'd hit a cart path or rock. Greens are new and very smooth - but a bit slow. Pace of play was very quick, I finished 9 holes in less than 90 minutes. It's a very compact course that's behind a shopping center, so the scenery's not the best - but I've seen worse. Overall, a good place to spend a couple of hours while the wife and kids are on the beach. Staff was wonderful, friendly and genuinely happy to have you there.
