Escape LA...
California fog made it interesting the first 6-7 holes but the course was awesome and challenging… though located outside of LA, this course gives you NorCal vibes with it’s tree lined fairways and cypress trees all around. Next time I’ll be rested & ready to score.
Saticoy C.C.
Rode the Blues (6601/73.3/140) with Matt, Wendy and John. CPO due to over seeding made for a slow POP. Weather was beautiful, calm, clear and warm.
Best William F. Bell layout I have played, better than Sandpiper IMO. Traditional, old school, both sides are par 36 with two par 3's and two par 5's. It contains everything I like and look for in a golf course. Interesting holes with variety that feature elevation changes. Enough tightness and hazards to constantly keep you on your toes w/o being overly penal. Plenty of well positioned bunkers and tree lined fairways and finally, the star of the course... excellent greens.
The tees were lush and well maintained.
The Bermuda fairways were quasi lush and generally nice to play from. Only complaints, and this is nit picking, is that collection areas had some soggy spots and they were full of old divots.
The over seeded rough was the weak link. All over the place, could be thick kukuyu, nice Bermuda, newly seeded Rye that could range from ultra lush to thin and some hardpan areas. It was penal because you were likely to have a poor lie and every poor lie was likely to be radically different than the last poor lie.
The large Sand traps were excellent. Thick good quality sand and immaculately maintained.
Loved the large greens. I saw the lines well and made more than my share of 6-12' putts. Firm and quick. The false fronts could be treacherous on numerous holes. Our group saw numerous chips and putts that were at one time within 10' of the hole end up 20 to 30 yards back down the fairway. It was the greens along with the tightness of a longer than average course that account for the high rating/slope.
Excellent customer service from everyone encountered. Nice range and excellent short game practice area. Basic carts did not have GPS but did have ports for electronics. No drink cart but adequate water stations on the course. Nice touch was stations on each nine with some snacks. Highly recommended if you have the opportunity to play.

I was impressed with the golf course. It has a varied and interesting layout and is consistent from start to finish. Elevation changes, different looks off of the tee keep the holes fresh. The bunkering is great, and the greens are tricky to read. Many of the holes are pretty tight, with moderately thick tree lines forcing you to keep it straight or play conservatively. Course conditions were very good.
