Spring Hills Golf Course

About
Family owned and operated, Spring Hills Golf Course is a casual golf club in a country setting in the foothills just north of Watsonville off Highway 1. Despite opening in 1965, golf has been played here since 1927 when one original hole was built by the land owner, which today is the No. 7. The back nine is the hillier of the two, which features panoramic views of the surrounding mountains, and the 18th hole features a 40-foot waterfall tumbling down the hillside. Built on land of the old Silva Estate, Spring Hills Golf Course's clubhouse is a ranch building that dates back to 1911.

People of color beware
We've had to change the rating here. I was made aware by a black friend that he actually felt very unwelcome here. The locals he said, made him feel as if the money he paid didn't really entitle him to use the golf course. I've felt this racism here before but this only confirmed it. I would encourage People of Color to stay far away from this course. They just want it for locals. And none of the locals are black... and the locals seem to like it that way.
I will say, speaking of locals, the pace of play among regulars can be a problem. They send out five-somes all the time and they take over 5 hours. They don't play ready golf. And they don't let people play through. It feels very much like rules for thee but not for me. I would like the course to make sure all groups try and get done in 4 hours and 15 minutes. Pace matters.
Lot of fun, great value.
Great place to play a casual round on a budget. Compares favorably to Pajaro, Seascape, DeLaveaga. Challenging, slightly excentric layout. Good condition in the wet months thru early summer, gets dry in the fall. Very friendly staff.
