Towne Lake Hills Golf Club

About
Carved from acres of wooded countryside in Woodstock, Towne Lake Hills Golf Club takes advantage of the rolling green hills. The dramatic elevation changes make it difficult to find an even lie anywhere on the course. Arthur Hills, the course's designer, incorporated a variety of challenges that makes each hole unique including a deft smattering of sand bunkers. The golf course depends as heavily on course management and strategy as it does on shot-making skills. It is a challenge to say the least, but it's fair. There are also four sets of tees that make it more approachable. One of the most memorable holes is the fifth. This par 5 presents an interesting risk-reward opportunity that will make you think. Towne Lake Hills G.C. boasts consistently good course conditions and idyllic scenery that make the round even more enjoyable.

The best shot of my life. My first shot on hole 11. 308 yard par 4. Photo submitted by u000007718501 on 11/12/2013
Greens slow and still bumpy.
This course is greening up and improving. The greens are still slow and bumpy from the recent aeration. Overall the place is in decent shape. The practice green is toast. I like the price and the layout. Friendly crowd and good food in the restaurant. Its a good place.
fun day for the money
Came back here after not playing for a few months. Still enjoyable. enjoyable course to play.
Typical, above average course for north Atlanta

Towne Lake is a typical, above average North-Metro Atlanta golf course: lots of elevation changes, rolling fairways, sneaky ravines, and hard doglegs. Course conditions are usually above average, layout has a good amount of variety (although a few quirky holes), and the amenities/facilities are solid. It’s not overly long at 6700 yards from the tips and the blues are a comfortable 6200.
I was pleasantly surprised that most of the tee boxes were very healthy for this time of year. A couple of the par 3s were a bit rough, but that’s somewhat expected. Fairways were very good for the most part, but like most North Georgia courses, the clay was poking through on the edges.
The greens were aerated earlier last month, so I think they are allowing them to be a bit more overgrown than usual. The actual grass was very healthy and I think in another month they will be rolling very nice. They are always very soft greens, which makes approach shots a bit easier.
A few course management tips… Par 5s are VERY score-able holes. I almost always grab a birdie or two on the par 5s - so take advantage. Many of the holes allow you to use the rolling hills to keep you in play - use them. If you miss on the opposite side of the hills, you’re going to be struggling in the leaves/trees. Takes a couple rounds to really learn where you can and can’t take advantage of the hills, but it’s worth paying attention to while you play.
TLH has a solid pro shop and restaurant. Grass/mat range with a chipping area nearby. With that said, their putting green isn’t great, so I’d recommend using the chipping area to work on your putting as well. They also have water stations spread out around the course, which is always a nice touch.
I think value wise, Towne Lake is worth the ~$65 weekday fee, but I wouldn’t consider it a great value for the cost - it’s about what’s expected. $85 weekend rate is too high in my opinion, but lots of people pay it and the pace of play on the weekends can get backed up. Pace of play was great today (Tuesday - midday), but I’ve had a few long rounds in the past.
Overall I’d recommend it, but try to make it a weekday and/or hotdeal on GolfNow.
Solid layout - Disrespectful/rude golf ranger
Always enjoy playing Town Lake, even with dormant conditions. However, we experienced an extremely concerning event yesterday. The elderly cart ranger approached us on 15th hole telling us the 3 some behind us was going to play through (while we were in the fairway), but they didn't hit. When we arrived to #16, the ranger returned and told us to wait until the group behind us finished #15 and tee'd off ahead of us. The issue is the group in front of us was on the green, so by us teeing off, we were perfectly on time. At one point the ranger yelled at one in my foursome, who is of Indian descent "don't you understand English?"...incredibly rude. We did wait for the 3 some to play thru. They must have been either members or from the pro shop, as one of them set up a camera to film their drives. It was a disheartening experience, I doubt we will return to play here.
Punched hole will wiggle your putts
Okay everyone is punching greens so I understand.
The course has many hard pan areas but they have sodded many areas
Food was good in the grill but my steak as rare I ordered medium
Great layout and grass is greening up
Punched greens
Extremely frustrating paying OVER full price for punched greens. The lack of grass in the fairways was to be expected for the time of year but to be charged $15 more than the online price AND have garbage greens is a lot. Golfer beware.
Shows potential
Course very challenging due to numerous hills and trap placement. Greens were undergoing spring maintenance ,I would like to play again later in the spring.
Great staff
I like the layout, greens we’re rolling good
Ate dinner after golf. Our waitress did a good job but ordered the Rib Eye steak (medium and it came out Mooing 🐂 . The ladies next to our table were all talking at the same time very loud😱Why do women do that????
Cold day but good play
Enjoyed the course. My first time there. Some challenging holes. Greens in good condition for the time of year. We started later in the day after it warmed up some. Will do back in the spring
Returning to normal conditions
Greens were punched a 1 1/2 months ago. They are returning to good speed and solid roll conditions. Greens are firm and smoothing out. Not quite back to normal pace but just off, no more bouncing off line.
Fairways are growing in as spring is in full swing. Pace of play was actually very manageable, 4 1/2 hours on a public course on a beautiful Sunday is pretty solid around these parts.
Great Day Today
Checked in today early Tee Time was 1050 got to the course early to hit the range and roll some putts but was able to just fo Tee off instead at 820 had a foresome let me Tee off with them and just continue on by myself. Fairways were still cold from the weather but ohh well the course can't help that not their fault. The greens were very beautiful and green and very well manicured. Caught up to a 2 some about hole 6 and they let me pass as well then I had the whole course to myself and never had to wait on anyone it was great. Only down side I had was there was no beverage cart had to get drinks at the turn that's my only issue. This place is EXCELLENT though I highly recommend if your in the Marietta/Woodstock Area
