Chattahoochee Golf Club

About
Situated just north of downtown Gainesville, Chattahoochee Golf Club is the oldest course in northeast Georgia. Robert Trent Jones crafted the classic design but it underwent a major redesign in 2006 that provided all new greens and bunkers as well as a new fairway drainage system. New tee boxes were built with five sets of tees, the longest of which stretch to over 7,000 yards. The best characteristics of the original design were kept in tact but the golf course is now more challenging. Chattahoochee Golf Club sits along the banks of Lake Sidney Lanier. It is nestled amongst mature trees that frame the fast greens and wide fairways. The golf course has become a local favorite over the years and has long been known as one of the best values in the area.

Fantastic Muni course. Played on a cool Friday morning fir the first time with a friend. Staff was freindly and enjoyable to talk to while we waited to start out.
Old school design in many ways with tee boxes and greens very close together and holes parallelling each other.
Still early spring so fairways were 100% dormant but in great shape. Greens were perfect. Everything was well kept and maintained.
Layout is very fun. Not too difficult but challenging on the approach. The front nine was more difficult to me as your tee shot typically had to be on the correct side of the fairway to have a decent shot at the green. Back nine fairways were friendlier, but many more elevated approach shots.
Did not do much in the club house, but it did its job. Nothing fancy in there, but the pro shop had a good staff and was well stocked.
I will defintiely be making the drive to play CGC again soon!
Great Course with great potential
I played this course under less than ideal conditions, but my partner and I were determined. I hadn't played this course in years as I no longer live in the area, so I was excited to once more hit the links. The course played honestly by rewarding a good shot and punishing a mis-hit accordingly. The lay out of the course is complimented by the terrain and in turn compliments the surrounding area. The course needs clubhouse revamp and maybe purchase a few sets of decent rental clubs. The staff was friendly and accommodating.
Outstanding
Chattahoochee Golf Club provides a good test while being very fair to the player. The course is in fabulous condition and is about as good as a Muni can be. I have played both the North and South courses at Torrey Pines. Chattahoochee GC can't match the vistas of the South course, but the golfing experience is as good.
Very Good Course - Great Value
Chattahoochee is a very good course in above average condition. Wide fairways provide more than adequate landing areas to approach the mostly well protected greens. We played following and during the rain. However, the conditions were very good. The top municipal course in Northeast Georgia. Note: I rate golf courses on an absolute scale using the following guidelines:
5 stars - Top tier golf course, all amenities, outstanding service/management and excellent course maintenance.
4 stars - Good to great course layout, complete club experience (full practice facilities, locker room, grill, etc...), efficient service/management, very good course maintenance.
3 stars - Good course layout, average practice facilities, average service/management, average course maintenance. No pace of play problems.
2 stars - Nothing special, but an enjoyable course to play. Only minor issues with pace of play.
1 star - Not worth the effort or serious pace of play issues. I take pace of play very seriously.
A 5-hour round is a minimum two-star reduction.
Home of the 1973 masters champion
This course is a hidden gem. Chataochee is a great course the clubhouse is a little old but the course has been here since the sixties. When I was here I was lucky enough to meet and talk to the 1973 masters champion Mr. Tommy Aaron. This is the course that he grew up playing on and has is own parking place in the parking lot. Anyway the practice are was nice sadly the putting green is one the side of the hill so it's to hilly to putt or chip. The course is nice my favorite hole was 8. 13 was a nice hole where you could see the lake 7 was good as well. This course holds a lot of tournaments so the greens are fast and rough is thick. The restraint is good here and would reccomend eating in there after your round.
Great course to play for locals!
This course is truly a full golf facility. Chattahoochee has several teaching pros with state-of-the-art flight monitors to go along with the indoor/outdoor practice areas. The pro shop is stocked and the clubhouse is quite large. If I lived in the area, I would probably join this club. As for the course, it has a good variety of holes and the greens roll true and real fast. Overall I really enjoyed the course and I will definitely be back.
tasgolf
Course in good condition for this time of year. Wide fairways and greens were in good shape. Beverage attendant & Grill room personnel - the best! Very enjoyable track to play. Definitely will be back.
TOO SLOW
PACE OF PLAY was horrible. Group in front was miserably slow - mainly because they were playing at least two tees too far back. By the time we finished there were 3 (THREE) open holes in front of them and they NEVER offered to let us play through, and we were a twosome. Won't play here again any time soon.
Great course
Great course for MLK day. Finished a round in 3 hrs! Greens were well maintained!
Great Holiday Round
We had a great round of golf on this day. We got off early and had not troubles; no one holding us up and no one pushing us from the back. It was a little windy, but overall it was a great day.
Great course and helpful staff.
We enjoyed a beautiful day on the golf course. The greens were very good and the course was in great condition. A frost delay meant the course was crowded but pace of play was no problem. The staff was great and actually got us on the course a few minutes before our tee time.
Hidden Gem
Played this for the 1st time on 11/2 - this is a hidden gem of a course. Will definitely play it again. The course was in overall very good shape, but being this late in the year the bermuda grass was beginning to go dormant, that said, all lies in the fairway were good. The greens are some of the best I've seen around north Ga, and are very quick. This is a course that might take a few rounds to get a feel for where (and where NOT) to hit it. there are only a few blind shots - the course is right in front of you for the most part. our group played from the blue tees and it was plenty of golf course with the various elevation changes. being able to hit a right to left shot off the tee definitely helps. of the four par 3s, three of them were 190+ yards from the blues so its a strong golf course. was told this is a city owned course (Gainesville). They are doing a great job with it. All the folks we met were very nice. will definitely go back.
perfect day for golf
Started out rainy, but ended up perfect. Crews were out working to keep the fairways cut and clear, greens dry and cart paths clean. Only downside was the greens, super fast!
Great Day for golf
The course was in excellent shape. Greens were a little fast but fair. Bunkers had sufficient sand in them to properly play them. Just a great day of golf. Will consider this course for future rounds.
Great value
Played this course for the hot deal price o $15 and was thrilled wig the value for the money and the staff friendliness. The course was fairly busy but the slow group in front of me did let me play through. The fairways were mostly nice with a few rough spots on a couple holes. I enjoyed the round and will play this course again
Excellent Greens and course conditions
I have played this course several times and always have a great experience. You will get to use all of your clubs. Very nice golf club...
An old time favorite
Chattahoochee GC is in great shape now,. I believe the greens are some of the best in the area. Go play now, great deals on a week day.
ROUND OF GOLF ON SUNDAY AM
Overall course condition was very good and the
greens were excellent for this time of year.
Enjoyed non-rushed pace of play and even though
just an average golfer, I still managed to play the
course in just under 3 hours, 30 minutes.
