Nice to Be Back
I used to be a member at Cateechee, and it was nice playing the course again. It was great to see that hole 10 was converted back to a par 4 after an ill-fated decision to convert the hole to a par 3 by building condo’s in the fairway. I hit driver and 7 iron from 170 to one foot to a pin in the back of the green. With the downhill approach, club selection was always important on this hole. When I was a member, the greens were bent, but have been converted to Bermuda. The greens rolled true, and my approach shots held, but had a difficult time reading the grain in the greens. There were some greens that were adulterated with poa annua, so hope the course doesn’t let this go too far. Fairways were good, but not yet fully greened up from dormancy.
Greens are excellent -
Lovely clubhouse
Decent practice facility
Pretty good layout ..
Tees are better than most and fairways are growing in nicely..
No Marshalls so slow
Greens and course were in great condition. Play was very slow ( about 25 minutes behind pace) when a twosome jumped 3 groups and got in front of my group. I reported them but no marshalls resulted in no action. Hopefully this is a one time incident.
Nice course!
I played early in the season (March) so not much of the course was green, but I knew that going in. Sand traps were decent although I was playing by myself and wasn't concerned about scoring so lifted them out.
Greens were not fully developed yet and still had some sand.
CARTS: On cart GPS is nice. Cart SHUT DOWN feature is annoying.
Long
It's a driver course, and with dry fairways you can get a good run.
Many positives
Wanted to play Cateechee for a while and it was worth the wait. Got a hot-deal but it would have been worth the normal price especially for the beginning of Spring.
Course design is short but challenging with many tough approaches. Most tee shots don’t require too much accuracy aside from 10 and maybe 18. 10 is a ridiculously hard golf hole btw. Conditions were great aside from most fairway bunkers being baseball dirt texture but it is north GA. Greens were absolutely phenomenal.
Clubhouse is really nice and they have a halfway house, plus restrooms on course. Range balls are included but putting green and short game area.
Only negatives would be no carts in the parking lot and I had to wait 10 minutes in the golf shop before anyone arrived to help me check in.
Will definitely be back closer to Summer to see what conditions are like.
Excellent for players (&students)
Fantastic course, lots of elevation and interesting holes. Definitely a shotmaker course.
Students can play for $45 on weekends
We had the course to ourselves literally!!
I booked and prepaid hotdeal online on Sunday thinking it was for Monday. The course is closed on Mondays but the pro graciously let us play. We had the whole course to ourselves.
Worth the trip -
What to say.
They have unlimited free treated water and so conditions are very good. Quality of the grass is high . Greens are very good and some sharp falls offs around several greens
provide some challenges
I preferred the back nine to the front nine
Layout has many good holes and some which are just dull.. Holes 3 - 9- 12 ... Yet Hole 10 is too hard for the average golfer
Practice facilities are solid..
Clubhouse is lovely..
Conclusion - it is a good course for people who spray the ball a bit. However having just played Currahee would say it is a class above Cateechee.
Excellent Experience
Amazing golf course, and friendly staff with complementary range balls. The turn house food was especially delicious. Thank you so much.
Expensive
Same old course. Poor bunkers, very dry, short staff, no beverage cart on 95 degree day but the are charging a premium price, $95 plus tax.
Not worth it considering other better courses in the area are $30-$40 less expensive. At that price you would think range balls would be free but no, for a small bag the charge is $5.
Won’t be back at those rates. Golf dose t seem to be a priority.
Dissappointed
Had not played here since new owners stopped doing business with Golfnow. I know how nice this course was. The greens were several weeks removed from aeration. Understandably they were slow bumpy and inconsistent. But, several had huge sandy dead spots. This is not acceptable for a course charging 100$ on a Wednesday at 1:30. This should have been alerted to me prior to giving away 100$. Several bunkers especially the fairway left bunker on #3 were in a state of disrepair with more like a red dirt and black soot mixture. Would much rather spent my hard earned money at Currahee, Arrowhead, Chimney Oaks or Walker Course. Will not be returning if changes are not made.
Lovely course
The course was just beautiful.
The greens were fast and smooth.
Played in 2 1/2 hours.
