Cannot believe they are closing
Highland Park country club was in great shape for time of year and showed no sign that they will be closing. I commend the management team for keeping things up to their last day, they should be commended!
Fun and friendly
Staff was super friendly!
A couple of fairways were being improved as well as a couple of greens.
Overall a wonderful course that's nicely maintained.
We don't live in the area, but we will be returning for at least a yearly golf trip here!
Narrow Corridors
I will get the minor issues out of the way first. Course is a bit water-logged and greens are a bit chopped up here and there -but that's to do with environmental conditions from what I understand and not lack of maintenance, that in itself would not be enough to prevent me from playing there again considering the price. What does prevent me from wanting to play there again is the number of tee boxes with massive, overhanging trees that encroach your field of view so much that often you are left with an. extremely narrow window of opportunity to place your drive. I'm an experienced golfer and understand different courses present their own themes of challenges - water, deep rough, crazy number of bunkers or whatever. However there are a fair number of holes at Highland park that don't even give you a chance to get your drive off depending on your shot shape, in some cases you can only aim to the right side because of the sheer vastness of overhanging trees so close to the tee box on the left. How can a player with a cut or fade aim to the right? Very frustrating all day, didn't seem fair to me?
First time, last time
Dirt patches on several greens. Rated a higher slope than it should be. Really poor clubhouse. Won't play again.
This course to hard n easy lol.
Is not easy playing this course a would like playing a again cheers!!
This course has potential
I was looking forward to playing the course, friends had boasted about the course in the past.
Unfortunately I was very disappointed to say the least.
The course looked like it needed maintenance as well as a blower to remove leaves and trigs on the fairways and greens.
I must say the layout was satisfieing.....
Wetlands
I playwed over ten years ago. This is one of many courses inundated with rain, leaving he course worse for wear. Multiple areas were under repair over extended distances. Signage could be better for the next tee box, and the standard yardage (red, white, blue) discs were faded, other markers spread out. Cart paths need some repair, fairways with unreplaced divots. Pace of oplay, for the most part was no waiting although2 or 3 holes were delayed on tee box. Hard to evaluate playability because of the extensive rain effect, but other courses in the area were not as effected..

Flood Damaged
This was my first time on this course and found it very tight where positioning is key on a few holes, which would have been helpful to have some course knowledge. I also found it to be a little fllat outside of 2 holes. I booked the reservation on golfnow and was surprised when I arrived and found how badly this course was hit by the flooding we had recently. Several of the fairways were brown and muddy as a result. The holes that were a little more playable were in really nice shape, the greens were in good shape, except for #16 where i felt like i was putting on dirt, again assuming this was flood damage. We played early enough and were not held up at all. The staff was very friendly and helpful. For the money, I would not recommend this course as I feel there are more exciting tracks to play in the burbs for equal or lesser $$.
Poor conditions
The fairways and some greens is pretty bad shape - understandable given the rain, but no forewarning, and we paid full fees. Not good.
Stay away.
Hit hard by the flood. In awful shape. Even w/out the flood the course has been neglected. Many trees need to be removed. Grass around ponds is very long and tee markers are often placed to close to the grass to hit the proper shot (#11 and #16). Other courses in the area are much better.
Narrow course challenges accuracy
The course is narrow and shots have to be accurate. Sand traps need more sand. Lot's of rainy days left traps and rough very wet in places. Fairways and greens in relatively good shape.
Great Experience
Golf course was in good condition for late april. the back 9 is interesting, must have been updated as a few of the holes are very different then most of the other treelined holes.
A great course, we played early started at 830 AM on Sunday and the pace of play was great...we finished in 3 hours
Waste of money.
This course is neat where i live thats the only reason I play here once in a while. The course was in horrible condition with tree branches in the fairway along with landscapers on what seemed to be every hole I played. The tee boxes are uneven and the greens were absolutley horrible, as were the sand traps. This course and the price they charge for the condition its kept is not worth it and i will not be returning again. Sunset Valley is so much better but thats closed for the season.
