-Avg at best condition.
-Some decent holes
-VERY slow greens
-Incredibly annoying cart that would shut down anytime you go above 8 mph. Worst cart experience probably ever.
Fun course
We went off around 9am on a holiday weekend Friday and didn’t see a single group ahead of us the entire round (even with only 3 in our group). Fun layout, some tight shots. They’d recently sanded the greens and fertilized, but otherwise it was such a fun round. The carts kept locking over 8 mph, which I hadn’t seen before and caused some jerky rides.
C-Breezy Smokes the rise.
Pretty good. Few greens had some sand on it but overall greens weren’t too bad and fairways were solid.
so much potential
Nice course with a challenging layout. Just needs some manicuring and attention and someone with some cash to get it back to its prime. Lots of waste areas AND ROUGH wet fairway areas. sand on several greens as well as unkept bunkers.
Needs TLC
Not Open
This course came highly recommended on the Golf now app. They had a hot deal this morning when I decided that I wanted to play golf today so I booked my teatime and drove 30 minutes to the golf course. When I arrived at the golf course the parking lot was empty and the doors were locked. I have never in my life had this happen. Absolutely mind-boggling! Won’t be trying this place again. I’ve moved onto the country club of Gwinnett. Hopefully they are open today!
On the rise....
This course has a tough, challenging layout--tight and hilly. You have to be smart about how you approach the holes, which makes it fun. Most of the time. Overall, the course seems to be improving. It's not perfect. A lot of the tee boxes are dirt. There are red clay patches on some of the fairways and there are some erosion issues for sure. The greens are in good shape except for a few holes that have some rough patches on the fringe being repaired. Some sand traps are in bad shape too. But it seems like management is putting effort into fixing up the course so I'm going to be patient with it for now as I enjoy playing there. The greens fees are definitely too high for what you get, but I'm hoping by paying a little extra it will go towards continued improvements.
Absolutely awful conditions
The tee boxes were dirt, the traps were mud, there were sandy patches on several greens, the drainage was mediocre. This course has some fun holes, but it was in terrible shape. They told us the drink cart would be around, but we never saw it. We try to only play it if we can’t find anything else, but sometimes the conditions are fine. If we had paid $40 or $50 for the round, it would have been ok, but $90 was ridiculous. ALSO, they added a speed limit regulator on the golf carts that was INCREDIBLY annoying
Smoke Rise 5/2/25
Some of the recent reviews are inaccurate. Most tee boxes are growing in as the weather warms up. The fairways were being mowed and looked great. The are not diseased. A few greens have sandy fringes and some small sandy patches but the pins aren’t placed there. They rolled great. SR has spent a few million dollars on renovating the clubhouse, new carts, taking out hundreds of trees to improve sunlight and air flow, and rebuilding a few areas on the course. It’s very hilly and a few erosion issues persist, but overall it’s a good deal. Martin and Megan in the pro shop are very friendly. Greg outside is a great guy. Josh the new pro is doing a terrific job. Give it a shot-you’ll enjoy your day.
Disappointed
The course condition is bad. Not worth the price in it's current state.
Terrible conditions
This course is absolute trash, especially for the money they are charging. The greens are diseased. The tee boxes are pure dirt. There are horrible problems with erosion. This course is not kept up with. All the bunkers are completely destroyed with no sand in them at all. They didn’t even have balls for the driving range. I will never go back.
Mediocre experience.
We arrived aroud 8:30 for a 9:00 round. The place was empty. There was one person working in the very sparse pro shop, and no starter or bag personnel to guide us how to get to the first hole. We had to retrieve our own golf balls for the driving range out of the barn. It was almost a surreal experience at the beginning. The course itself was in OK shape. It looked like it had encountered some damage --- maybe from storms or something? The course was hilly, so some of the cart paths were very steep and a little scary to drive down. Not sure if I would ever play her again. We went inside for lunch afterwards was very accomodating and the food was good.
Fast Greens - some ridiculous pin placements
The course is short and the fairways had not come in yet, so I did not play when it could be at its best. The tee boxes need a lot of work. The greens were at least a 12 on the meter, and some of the pin placements were comical. Was not worth the $85 that day.
Worn out
The course just seems sort of worn out... lots of dirt in various places throughout most holes, the greens are all spray painted. I don't mind these things to be honest... but not for $85. This course should be priced more like $60.
Improvements Still Needed
After some cosmetic, but significant improvements, such as some freshening of the club house interior and new carts, there remain more challenging and likely more expensive improvements ahead. I’m hesitant to critique course conditions during winter, but hopefully there are plans to improve the tee boxes later this year. Most if not all are grassless and uneven. There are also many areas just off the fairways that include severe uneven and washed out slopes. There are too many holes where a drive or approach shot that is slightly right or left is lost or unplayable because severe slopes that propel the ball into these areas or the lack of space to allow for some forgiveness on the edges of the fairway. Hopefully these issue are on the course improvement list in 2025.
Very good idea
I have played this several times and find it to be fun and challenging. The course overall was in good shape but needed some work on the brush
Very dangerous course condition and neglect
I played here on 1/16 many days after snow and the weather was sunny and warm so I was not expecting to see so much snow still on the course. Starting from the 1st hole the whole tee box was covered in snow and frozen, with half the fairway being covered as well. I feel like we should have gotten a warning over phone or even on golfnow but I can understand up to that point. What was very disappointing to me is the cart roads were also frozen and snow in many places especially in sketchy place with lot of undulation and hill. You can not tell me all these days after snow the course couldn’t not throw some sand or salt down to make it safe for the players. Again this is on the main golf cart roads!! I shouldn’t have to worry about my life or flipping the cart down a valley while playing golf. Again all this was not even mentioned. This is clearly neglect on the course management and clear lack of care or interest for players safety. One hole we literally could not make it up the hill and it was very steep so cart could have easily flipped over down the hill, and took us literally 4 people and help of a random single player (who also got stuck) to get all our 3 carts up the hill. This is around 4pm too not in the early am. Very dangerous course condition. I like the course so I played multiple times and even brought guests here this day. But will not return anymore.
