Cart Paths Are Trash
I love this course but rarely play here in summer due to the $120 green fee combined with the terrible conditions of the cart paths. Golfers have been complaining for years and the conditions of the cart path really take away from the overall experience at this great course. It’s a shame that the owners only seem care about profit.
Harborside Port Course
Fall golf in Chicago is tough but what I like about Harborside is there are not a lot of leaves all over the ground covering up your ball in fairways or fringe.
Nice course
This place is very nice. Bob the starter is a gem! I just wish it wasn’t so expensive to play.
The course is maintained well, EXCEPT for the cart paths. I would think they would be in better shape in comparative to the course.
Good Golfing Gone Bad!
Great golf courses at Harborside but year after year they do little to maintain the course. Conditions were the worst that I’ve seen. The cart paths are absolutely Atrocious for a Premier course (They are asking $128 for this Friday!)
I’ve never seen more unrepaired ball marks on otherwise nice greens, worn out grass and ruts near the potholed and decrepit cart paths. The paths needs a 100% redo at least six years ago and get worse every year. Tee boxes shaggy and the bunkers worst in years with not enough sand to make a good swing at the ball.
Overall terribly disappointed and I play here a LOT
Makes me rethink whether I’ll continue to support Harborside…this was also the first Season in over a decade when I DID NOT join the Anchor Club
Wiseup HSide or I won’t be they only one to leave you behind
The pace of play at this course was terrible. Our back nine took 3hrs and the total round time exceeded 5hrs. There were 2 groups waiting to tee offf on almost every back nine hole. We had a six some a couple holes ahead of us which included 2 guys playing Barefoot! Never saw a ranger or playing assistant ALL DAY.
Would never return to this course…run very unprofessionally
Greens were destroyed
For how expensive the course is, you would expect greens to be mint, they were very worn, as worn as jackson park that is 1/3’rd the price
Nice layout, but….
Enjoyed the links style layout, but every pin was cut 4-5 feet from the edge of the green. It was if they were trying to save the greens for someone else.
I don’t mind a tucked pin now and again, but 18 holes in a row?
Ball Marks
If you like to putt, this isn’t for you. Each green looks like no one believes in repairing ball marks on the greens. Very hard to hit a true putt.
Dissapointed
I’m deeply disappointed with the lack of compassion and understanding from this golf course. After a close friend unexpectedly passed away, I had to cancel our tee time, but was still charged the full rate. In such difficult times, I would have expected at least a bit of empathy and flexibility. Charging full price when the circumstances are beyond anyone’s control is both unfair and disheartening. I hope management reconsiders their policies for the sake of future customers who may face similar situations.
We waited 15 min on every hole since the pace of play was bad. No ranger on the course to keep the play moving. We quite after 13 holes because the pace was at over 5 hours
Great Course - Some minor improvements needed
I play this course 2-3x per year. It is without question one of the more challenging public courses in the Chicagoland area and is generally very well maintained. A few notes:
1. Tee boxes, fairways and greens are overall in very good condition. This has been consistent for years.
2. A few of the sand traps, namely on 17 and maybe 18 are in bad shape. They are very hard with little sand, loaded with rocks and in some cases, bricks. The other sand traps are in good shape.
3. More signage is needed between holes. For someone that doesn't play here regularly, some of the hole locations can be difficult to find. The lack of signage has been an issue for years.
4. The cart paths have become particularly bad, many with big, deep potholes, trenches and cut outs. This should be fixed.
5. The staff here is excellent. Professional and very helpful.
Great Day Out on the Port Course
We were teamed up with Andrew and Mark and had a great time out. We rented clubs and practiced at the facility before heading out. Had a nice breakfast sandwich and drinks also. The course was challenging…especially the 11th tee but it was fun!
Amazing course
This is one of the best public courses in the Chicago area. When I have family coming to town and they say they will want to play while in town this is one of the first courses I try and take them to. People complaining about the cart paths? Be serious...
Good course, just overpriced
Pros: easiest course to get to from downtown Chicago other than a few of the CPD tracks; very good practice facility; well maintained greens and fairways; friendly staff; outstanding brats at grill
Cons: not good value. Greens fees have gone up 50% in past ~10 years and I'm not sure what you're getting for it. Bunkers are very inconsistent; cart paths are borderline dangerous they are in such bad shape.
