Jackson Park
Great pace and the course was in good shape despite not having much rain. Good times.
Great City Course
I play Jackson Park regularly. I try and pick times that are not that busy, so I can't speak to pace of play on busy days. But when I play, I get 18 in, in under 3 hours.
Course conditions are always good. Greens are soft and of course people can't be bothered to repair ball marks, so I try and fix 3 or 4 per hole.
The par 3s are pretty challenging.
Wish they would put actually sand in the bunkers, but for a city course, its better than a lot of other courses in the area.
League play slow play
Before leaving Chicago, we wanted to play this course again because we really enjoyed it the first time we played it. Beautiful course with a lot of history. The first 5 holes were wide open and we were on a good pace. Unfortunately, that came to a stop, and the course was backed up with 3 teams in front due to a league playing that morning. We witnessed open fairways, but no play because they were busy talking instead of playing, and no one was on the course to make them keep a steady pace. Also, several there were several teams of 2 players that should have been teamed up. Husband quit after 9 because we would often wait up to 10 minutes to continue play. I continued, and eventually it got a little better. Next time, we will check to make certain no league is playing. Otherwise, it was a great day on a beautiful historic course that we would have given another 5 stars!
The Nicest People EVER!
The one thing you'll notice off the bat is how sincerely friendly the staff is. I've never had a bad experience at JP. The course is beautiful, well run (very few bottlenecks) and inexpensive. The course runs right alongside the lake with beautiful views. One downside: Only porta-potties on the course.
Well maintained short, tight city course
I have played Jackson Park many times. I try to play when the weather isnt great, early mornings or other slow times to avoid the crowds, so I cant speak for pace of play on normal days.
I will say this, the course is in really good condition except for #8's tee box. Also, the upkeep on the course is consistent.
Greens are soft and slow, as typical with other courses, people dont repair their dang ball marks which drives me nuts. I fix mine plus 1 to 2 others per hole. You're welcome. But the soft greens dont help with the number of ball marks.
The course is short, but challenging in places, especially the par 3s. 6, 12, 13, and 17 are tough holes.
2 of the par 5s are reachable in 2 fairly easily.
Overall its a fun course to play.
Put this place on your list
Pristine condition, short and long challenges. Love this place 🙏 Will be coming back, highly recommend it
Slightly Average Course
It was a decent course given that it’s a Chicago Park District property. The young lady in the clubhouse was FANTASTIC, but the ranger was rude and unprofessional. The course layout is very confusing; no maps are available, the holes are scattered and not in order so you can get turned around and lost pretty easily, the roads were cracked and bumpy (potholes like the rest of Chicago), the greens were pretty good, the bunkers are dirt, and everyone was in a rush. I’m a beginner golfer, so I’m still getting the hang of things and I wasn’t able to get any better playing here because everyone is rushing and the ranger stalking. Very diverse crowd, which was a major bonus! The price was cool for what you get, considering that you’re playing on the lakefront; but I’ve played better courses for the same amount. Very limited amenities and accommodations. Oh, did I mention that the young lady in the clubhouse was awesome! I’d return, but my expectations are lower now.
Good golf course
I was on vacations and I played this course, all the staff gave me an absolute great service, and since I was on vacations they provide me with clubs rentals.
They course layout is great, the only 18hole inside Chicago city, the golf course allows the player to enjoy the views of the coast and the park. I strongly recommend this course.
So Much History of Course
Visiting from Arizona, you know we have to mention how green this fairway is and Lots of trees, but then again, its Chicago. This course was challenging, while forgiving at the same time. We used a cart, but definitely walkable with no problem as course is mostly flat. We really enjoyed playing this historical course and plan to return a few more times before leaving Chicago in September.
Great Fathers Day
This was the first time I played golf with my son on Father’s Day. It was a great choice to play golf on this special day.
