Back nine is outstanding
Read that the course underwent an ownership change a few years ago. Not sure what it was like back then but the course is outstanding right now. A college tournament had just finished so maybe that was partly why the course was in such good condition.
I think I got the very last available twilight tee time as there was no one behind me. The course was pretty crowded and took a while to play the front side as a single (back nine moved along a bit better). While solid, the opening nine holes go through a neighborhood but don’t wow you.
The back nine is simply stunning. The 10th tee box is a preview of the crazy elevation changes. The two par 3s are wild, in a good way. Hole 12 is long but has a steep elevation drop, while 17 is picturesque with a lake below the tee boxes.
The twilight rate of $49 was a great deal and worth it. The $79 regular rate is a bit pricey but I’d gladly pay that, too. Tees and fairways were very good. Greens were sloped, baked out and hard but rolled pure.
A definite “play again” course!
Absolutely worth a visit
Weaver Ridge is a course I've wanted to play for several years since it had such great press when it first opened. It was one of the top Public courses in Illinois you can play for several years. The new owners are doing what they can to bring this wonderful Hurdzan/Fry design back to some semblance of glory. It's a very picturesque course with lots of elevation changes. The greens were in decent shape but still need work as some areas - diseased or bare - but did not impact play much if at all. The numerous sand traps - unfortunately many "high end designed" late 90's courses are complete over the top sand trapped to the gills every hole.....impossible to maintain acceptable conditions in even half of them. Fairways were decent as well as most tee boxes. Driving range/putting green which was in the worst shape of all the greens near first tee. Nice clubhouse with deck overlooking 18th green and really friendly folks who want you have a great experience. Front nine winds through housing stock which is set back far enough to not be intrusive. The back nine has a spectacular routing with several elevated tee shots. Easy to see why the course was so highly ranked until the last few years when the former owner just let it go. Continuing care as well considering to just grass in several bunkers so key ones can be maintained & as well green conditioning improvements by new owners would easily bring this course back into the top 25 of Illinois publics. The routing and bones are that good. I wasn't disappointed by the $50 charge....in it's current shape it's a $40 weekday $60 weekend course. 3.9 stars....and from what I can tell should be slightly over 4 stars by next season.....
Played this course a handful of times this past summer. The course was recently bought and previous owner let the place get in terrible shape. The new owners have revamped the course completely and made some much needed improvements. Overall the course is absolutely gorgeous, the back 9 is one of a kind and will challenge any golfer.
Steadily improving
Previous owner let the course run down before selling. The new owners are putting a ton of money into the course and it is improving. They are redoing a bunch of bunkers and it will be very nice when done. This is one of the 3 best courses in the area with Metamora Fields and Coyote Creek. Weaver has the best layout in my opinion. All three have a different style and so it becomes a personal preference as to which is better.
New ownership sucks
Received two rounds of golf at a golf outing held their that was paid for. Went to use them and was told there not valid because of new ownership. I explained they weren't donated to the golf outing by Weaver Ridge but was paid for. Manager said new ownership won't honor anything pre ownership previous owner got the money for them and last owner gave alot of free passes away. I like the course but if ownership treats customers this way no reason to play there ever again.
Great layout
Have played Weaver in the past and have seen it in much better shape then this round. Tees and fairways have numerous areas where the grass is non existent.
Greens were smooth and fast but plagued by lots of ball marks. Wish golfers would repair them and repair them correctly. Nice to see they are redoing the bunkers. Cart paths are in need of repair in lots of places. Just to bad this course that was once a jewel has not had enough money put back into it to keep it that way. I would still recommend it just for the great Hurdzan/Fry design.
Awesome course, awesome day
I was in town visiting family and treated myself to an early morning round taking advantage of WV's great EB rate. I will be back! Course was in fantastic shape, especially the greens. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Thoroughly enjoyed my day on a perfect day to play golf!
Great course
It almost feels like a hidden gem to find a course this nice in central Illinois.
I played a twilight round for around $25. Unbelievable deal for a course this nice.
Clubhouse was really nice and the staff was very friendly.
The course itself was in great shape except for some greens that are speckled with ball marks. Could just be because it is still so early in the season.
This course has everything. Great scenery, elevation changes, forced carries, long holes, short holes, undulating greens.
This course is a must play anytime you find yourself in Peoria.
Excellent back 9
This course has a lot of elevation change on the back nine. A couple of the par 5s are short but you need to be accurate to score on them. For the most part the rest of the holes have plenty of room off the tee. Plenty of memorable holes on this course, especially the par 3s on the back. The only reason I didn't rate 5 stars was due to the course conditions. It had rained that morning and they hadn't fixed the bunkers by the time we played late afternoon. The greens were very bumpy from all the spike marks but the course is usually kept in great shape. Highly recommend
Good course, good shape, overpriced
All 4 times I have played here I left with the same feelings. Solid course, a couple of quirky holes (10 and 18 you run out of room with driver which on these length holes I don't like), medium speed slightly bumpy greens, but fun. Overall a good course. I payed 40 - it's worth that every now and again.
There are some great views on the back 9, but it's also a neighborhood course which detracts from it's visual appeal.
Course is typically green and lush, also not my preference. Fairways giving 0 - 15 yards of roll depending on the wetness of the ground. Greens soft and my 7 irons were backing up a few feet. This is niether a negative or positive, just a preference.
I enjoyed myself and will be back next year probably.
Poor Value for Top Dollar
I do not usually review, but for the fees normally charged I guess I expected more. I heard much about this course and gave it a try. I don't know what people were excited about. Staff was great, but course did not match. Greens spotty in many places. Fairways varied from spongy to rock hard. Traps in poor condition. I used golfnow and a few perks to get the price down, but still a questionable value. Great day and fun round, but medium course charging top dollar. Several local community courses are in better shape for much less per round.
Trapped at WeaverRidge
The course is beautiful with the exception of the bunkers. There are too many bunkers that are not properly maintained. Same issue last year.
If staff can't properly maintain them with essential amounts of sand, why not fill half of them in?
Top 5 public in all of Illinois
Play this course 1-2 a year and always look forward to playing at Weaver. Pro shop staff always have a smile on their face, which is a breath of fresh air. Weaver without a doubt is a top 5 public track in the entire state of Illinois. I know because I've played all of them....all of the top 20, except Annbriar. Layout is just breathtaking and the elevation changes are so dramatic you forget you're in boring Illinois. Only issue is the conditions weren't a 10, maybe a 7 but regardless play this course cause it's just so fantastic.
Best course in central IL - Great layout, elevation changes, fun to play
Really nice course with big elevation changes. Excellent layout with many interesting holes. Only drawback was playing a day after rain. Cart path only because of the rain made for a long, slow round... Not a course conducive to that at all. And its not a course you can walk. Still definitely worth playing. Easily the best course in central Illinois.
Great course!
I loved it. One of the best in the state. Very picturesque and you use the whole bag of clubs. A must play
A must play!
This course is beautiful and very well maintained. There are interesting elevations and the overall layout is fantastic. The greens are big and they run true. I was surprised to find this high quality course in this part of IL. It's a gem.
Great course
Challenging but not impossible. Great track and well worh the drive from Chicago. Fees well worth it as well.
Expected better conditions for premier course reputation
While great conditioning was expected from its reputation and price, actual conditions were disappointing. Bunkers were packed with hard sand at bottoms, teeing areas had rough length grasses and tee markers seldom lined up at proper angles. Overall did not live up to reputation or rack rate price.
So you paid nothing to play in the outing and your complaining that you didn't get more free golf.
