Needs Some Upkeep
First off, Arsenal Island is a military island so you will need to go through security and get a guest ID before getting on the island.
The drive to the course is incredible. Military memorials and retired tanks are just some of the features. Once I got to the course, I was very impressed with the views of the Mississippi River. However, the course conditions put a damper on things. There were leaves in the tee boxes, the rough was incredibly bare, the bunkers were terrible, and quite a few greens were in bad shape. I was told by my partner that this was one of the best courses in the QC several years ago, when it was a Country Club. For him, seeing it like this was disappointing.
I’d recommend this course based on the experience, not because of the actual golf course.
A walk back in time
I played this course recently and highly recommend it. Note to players, the course is located on US Army land which means you need to pass a background check and receive a visitors pass to enter the property. The process takes just a few minutes, Plan accordingly. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful explaining the process. Upon arrival on the day of play they treated me like royalty.
The course is fairly straightforward with a few interesting holes. Not difficult, but offered some challenge. . The scenery is magnificent with the River views along with the history of the location.
The greens were in fantastic shape, rolled true and the rest of the course was in very good shape. My only complaint was the bunkers were a little thin and neede a bit of TLC. Definitely would play agin when I'm in the area.
Fun track
The Arsenal Golf Course is everything that's good about old course design! It has great views and very true greens.
Pros: bent grass fairways are always a luxury. Greens are very true and given the correct conditions, very fast. Only local course that plays Mississppi River side. Great twilight course and also great to walk. Super value!
Cons: given its location, it doesn't hold up to rain very well. Fairways can be a bit patchy. Rough can be a little high and couple that with more trees than I'd like to remember and this course can be a bear. Far harder than the yardage will represent. While private this course was the most well kept course in the area. I wish they could get back to that.
This course is in the top tier of public courses in the QC. For the bent grass fairways alone. Small tough greens will challenge your moxy, only if you navigate the trees!
Best Deal In QC
Love playing this course. You must be in the fairways. Greens roll true. Wildlife all over, quit and peaceful. This course is the best deal in the Quad Cities.
Best course in the QC outside of TPC
Hands down the est course in the QC outsaide the TPC..maybe fyre lake could give it a run since thats a links type but if you have not played here you must..the secenic holes is worth the 20 bucks alone.
