Cedar Rapids Country Club

Cedar Rapids Country Club is a Donald Ross gem located on a rolling piece of land near Indian Creek in SE Cedar Rapids. Through a recent renovation, and further updates after the 2020 Derecho took a number of trees, Cedar Rapids has become a must play for any golf course architecture enthusiast.

The clubhouse sits at the highest point on the property, and the course plunges down away from it to the creek valley below. The front 9 is definitely hillier, while the back 9 plays in a low area near Indian Creek.

The star of the golf course is the Donald Ross greens! There are obvious breaks and more subtle breaks. The greens are generous in size, but being on the green doesn't guarantee an easy 2 putt! The greens are an absolute pleasure to putt, rolling very true and at a really nice speed.

While forgiving off the tee, the challenge is very present on the 2nd shot. If a green is missed in the wrong spot, the player is presented with very difficult chips or pitches, however, there are options on most every green site for a variety of chips shots.

The routing of the course is very good. With short walks from greens to tees, it's a fairly easy walk, though some of the hills do present challenges.

I can't recommend Cedar Rapids highly enough. If you get an opportunity to play it, you should jump at it. You won't regret it!
