Conditions
Poor conditions, lack of care to the course and gravel roads are less bumpy. Tee boxes are unleveled and not groomed. greens are full of divots and lack of seed.
Improving
I grew up playing this course. The layout, management, and level of care that has gone into this course has fluctuated drastically over the years. This year (2015) new management has taken over and they seem to be taking a bit of pride and effort into improving the course. This course has always had potential, but I finally feel like it's starting to live up to that potential. Just in the last couple of months the changes have been a vast improvement. Several old, dead trees have been removed. Over-grown weeds have been burnt off in favor of growing grass. Yes, it's only 9 full holes, but at $25 w/ a cart to play 18 that is a steal. There is a 9 hole par 3 course as well which is great for practicing those irons. For the money you can't really beat it.
I see a 1 star review from April and having played the course so often, I can say that they were still working on getting working/newer equipment at the course and had delays with mowers from the dealership. If you were to go now you'd find the fairways and greens in much better shape. Tee boxes are still uneven on a few holes, but I've played several munis/public courses for twice the price in the Des Moines area with the same issue.
All in, for the price point it's worth the drive as it's only 10 minutes South of Des Moines.
Only 9 holes
This is a nice little course if you're only interested in playing 9 regulation holes. They also have a 9 hole par 3 course.
Needs work
This course has potential, however is not taken care of properly. The grass was obviously not mowed in a while, and tee boxes were not level and had many bare spots. We got there at 8:40 for our 9:00 tee time, and nobody was at the clubhouse. We waited 15 minutes, and the owner started warning us/apologizing about the unkept grass.
Otherwise the course is very hilly, and could be a nice place if the management took care of it and put some money into improvements.
Nice little 9-hole track
I played this on a 35 degree morning in late march. Conditions were terrific for this time of year. Course attendant was outstanding. He said the course was under new management and shouldn't be listed on GolfNow anymore, but he honored my tee time and price.
Loved the layout of this place.
This place has a nifty, lighted, par-3 course as well.
Rained out!
We got rained out for the morning. Was told course was too wet and as long as it was raining we couldn't play. We received a rain check for 18 holes and a cart when we paid for 9 holes and a cart of $5 each.
Bring plenty of extra balls
When you're in the fairway and rough, you're in good shape. But if you're in the long rough, you're not getting out of it. Watch out for the sharp dogleg right on No. 6.
9 Hole Gem
Definitely would recommend Rolling Hills as a must play for anyone looking to enjoy a quick 9. The greens were in great condition and the layout was quite interesting. It truly is course with many Rolling Hills and beautiful views.
