Getting better every month
I played this course four years ago and swore I would never play it again. However, with new ownership, they have turned this into one of the best public courses around. The greens are in terrific shape as well as the fairways, though tee boxes need improvement but I am confident that will get done soon enough. The staff is very friendly and the pro shop has a fair amount of selection of different things. They also have some fun events like senior games and member-guests tournaments. If you are in the area, you should give it a try.
Much improved
A few years ago I would not play this course as fairways were bare and the greens spotty with too much dirt. Totally different course now with new owners. Tee boxes need improving but fairways and greens are in really good shape. Restaurant and bar is a bonus as there is plenty of room, food is good and drink prices are low. Anyone that has not played it in a while should give it another try.
Improving
This course has a recent new owner who is slowly improving many aspects of the course. There are challenging holes with plenty of elevation changes. There are several shots over hills or uphill, so its a good idea to look ahead before you tee off the first few times you play. It is a reasonably inexpensive round of golf for a good value. A major plus is that the food is excellent, especially the burgers. Certainly not a top tier course, but a great place to play an inexpensive round on a course that is working hard to improve.
Nice folks - decent course
Fairways are a bit shaggy. Greens well maintained. Folks are super friendly and helpful. Could see improvements going on at the clubhouse and elsewhere so there is an engagement towards improvement at lots of levels. Not for big hitters, but quite enjoyable for us average golfers. Recommend it!
This course did not meet expectations or value.
I have played this course in the past and it was a very fun course and was in good shape. I am not sure what has happened, especially since this summer has been one that most courses have thrived in. The fairways were barren in way too many spots. The bunkers were an absolute abomination. More like baked mud traps. Tee boxes were full of crab grass. My wife has not been playing long and even she found the course to be well below par compared to the few other courses she has been on. I would not recommend this course to anyone at his time.
The fairways were Nothing but weeds and course crabgrass.
The course was aesthetic and well laid out the greens were in very good condition but the fairways did not have any real grass to hit off. they were very hard and only had a broad flat crabgrass turf. .
This course is on the rise.
Got a great deal on GolfNow and made the drive from Lexington. Easy to get to and not much longer than driving across town to a local course. The staff was helpful and friendly. The course needs a little work but there were people out doing that work while I was playing- mowing, fixing bunkers etc. The course has some character, especially the water fronted green on #1. Wish there were pictures or diagrams of the holes somewhere. I am glad it wasn't too busy because I had to drive ahead to see where to hit the ball. Also, there were no yard markers in the fairways to help with distance. A few small changes and I'll be making the drive more often.
Very Poor condition.
This was the first time playing this couse for me. One of, if not THE worst course I have ever played. Fairways are as bad or worse than most rough and the rough was just let go. Sand traps...who am I kidding, those weren't sand traps those were "bare spots dusted with sand". Greens have hope, but were so shaggy and the holes were over grown that it felt like putting on velcro. On to the positive notes, the staff was very nice, the bar had $1.50 beer (though the selection was very pedestrian) and the layout of the course had some nice looking holes...#1 was neat as was #18 (especially liked the view on 18). The rate was at least double what this course should command. Disappointed!
This course was in horrific condition
This course was the worst I've I played in my life the condition was awful should not have been open, the grass was so long you could not tell where the fairways were a lot of blind shots no yardage markers in the fairways. I lost 6 balls on the front 9 in the fairway the back 9 was a little better condition overall the greens were in pretty good condition . I understand the course is under new management and I hate to take away from that but i think the owner has the responsibility to have the course in half way decent shape (like cut the grass) would not recommend this course to play !4
Fairways in very poor condition along with Tee Boxes when you can find them.
Very little attention given to this course by maint staff. Hopefully this was due to a very frozen winter.
