Two Very Different 9s
The older front 9 is very tight with old-school smaller greens. The newer back 9 over the river has more room off the tee and bigger greens. The back 9 is bland and the front 9 is full of charm and character.
1929 says it all.
Love this place. Been playing here for over 60 years Many of Kentucky’s famous golfers have played here.
Just a little wet...
This course is a great value for the money. Weekdays are only $20! Drive 50 miles in any direction and you'd be pressed to find a better value. Now, on to the course..
The fairways and greens were in great condition. The only issue was that it rained the night before and a few spots in the fairways were really damp. Pace of play was good--4 hours with cart path only. I hadn't played the course in a few years and I'm glad to see some trees gone that didn't help the course. A couple greens had a few bad spots but they were mostly near the edges.
Pro shop staff were super friendly. There's a grill next door and I could smell the burgers but didn't have time to eat--hopefully next time!
Tight fairways and wooded areas
Paintsville GC is a nice golf course nestled in the hills of Appalachia. It is a tight course with shared fairways/overlapping fairways on some holes. You may have to wait to tee off because someone else is working their way back toward you because of the shared fairways. The first nine are the tightest and include interesting challenges like teeing off from the tops of hills down into valleys. Hole 10 and 18 have you hitting over a river. Greens and fairways are in nice, cared for condition.
Great Old Course!
The course is improving slowly but needs a lot of repairs to be ready for spring. It has a lot of scrambles being played each week and school tournaments too.
I learn to play on this course and the greens have improved greatly but still require improvements for the future. There are way too many trees that are shading the course and causing too much shade that prevents the air from flowing that could help it alot. Tight fairways, water, and bunkers that need work. It's a course that can really challenge your game with elevation changes and many hazards including a river that you cross twice on a very old swing bridge. Many locals play this course so expect groups of 8 to 10.
Great Course and Staff
Love this course, try to play it a couple times a week, and usually 36 holes every time. Great staff, they never fail to ask if they can be of any assistance. Very courteous on the fairways and greens when they are working and you are playing through. They Always try to work with the disabled .
Fun course to play.
The course was in very good condition. The greens were a little slow, but very true. The staff was very friendly. 10 & 17 were very neat as your drives were across the Big Sandy River, and you then drove across a swinging bridge. Only negatives are 2-3 holes where the fairways are too close together, need to stay aware on these holes.
Worth the trip to experience the swinging bridge over the river!
I played this as my course in my youth. I was very dissapointed with the condition of the fairways during this round. The greens did hold well and rolled true. If you are playing the ball up I would recommend this course as you will need to roll it in the fairway.
the course was great
The course was great and the staff is wonderful very helpful . Cant wait to play this course again.
Wonderful first time experience
easy check-in and cart delivery, helpful staff, good overall experience, rough cart paths and very dry fairways, but small tight greens that were in excellent shape and fast ... beautiful course design and overall wonderful first time experience and will return
Beautiful course
Extremely fast check in. Course very well maintained nestled in the mountains of Eastern Ky.
This is a unique golf course
Experience was great course was great all though some of the greens and tee boxes needed some repairing and the cart paths need to be redone other than that I love the course it a short one but it'll get you if your not careful. Great golf course.
