One of the better Ross courses we have played
Whenever we are looking for a place to play we go out of our way to find Ross courses. We have played over 25 of his courses now and we were really happy to add Plymouth to the list. The course is typical Ross with elevated greens that will make you pay for missing them by 5-10 feet as well as subtle breaks on every green that make you work for every putt made. The round starts off easy enough with two holes side by side that each look as wide as football fields but as you meander along into the more wooded holes you will have the put the ball where Ross tells you to, especially off the tee. This course is in our Top 5 Ross courses played and I would certainly go back and play it again.
Wonderful Old Donal Ross Course
Some difficult and long holes. Excellent fast greens with quite e few false fronts. Don't go over greens as lots of trouble long..
Plymouth Country Club
Beautiful Donald Ross Gem with a challenging layout
....like all Ross courses, don't be long and watch out for the false fronts on many of the holes. I met a great group of friendly people in the lounge and I can't wait to go back.
A Ross gem
I am a relatively new member and did not have any of the experiences talked about by the prior reviewer. Could not be father from the truth
The course is a pleasure to play on a day to day basis and will always challenge you as the weather and wind change all the time. Just ask the top players who come every year for the Hornblower event. Very few manage scores under par.
Greens are always fast (this year being the exception with the heat and drought conditions) and the course is always in good shape.
Lots of good holes and no two are the same. Five is my favorite on the front, as it is a very natural hole. 11 and 12 back to back are two quality par 4's. Really do not think there is a bad hole, although most who play PCC will remember 7 and the very difficult green.
Highly under rated in my opinion and the lack of a full range turns some people off. In my mind, practice and beating balls is over rated anyway. Go play this gem instead and improve your game. Playing here has made me a better player and it is easy for a new member to "find a game" as PCC has group play almost very day. All you need to do is put your name on the tee sheet with a group and you will have a game.
Food is great too and kudos to the staff as they work hard to make this a great place to play golf.
The Pro ruins the expierience
Old school Donald Ross near the beach. Plays hard and fast, almost too hard given the greens. The course is not the issue here. The Pro is an entitled d'head. Made showing up their a headache. Impossible to get a decent time unless you grease him. The management straight lied with regard to bond needed to join. Don't trust anything they say. They add on all sorts of fee's in regard to the monthly food bill, nothing is on the up at this place. Is a shame because the course is such a gem.
Great Donald Ross Course
Very difficult course, especially the lightning fast greens with a lot of undulation. It helps if you can play a few times to know the spots you can't miss. Always in amazing shape
